Chapter 44: Floating Sky Ship’s Quota
In the dream realm, Xu Gang and his sister Xu Yuexian were under constant attack from an endless horde of beasts. Xu Fan called this the Endless Challenge, designed to push them to their limits.
The siblings took refuge at the base of a mountain, allowing them to focus their defense on just one direction.
Xu Gang had fully transformed into a spell-casting machine, and as he unleashed a barrage of attacks, a faint glimmer of excitement flickered across his face.
Fire Bird Technique, Explosive Flame Technique, Sea of Fire Technique, Burning Wind Arrow Technique, Fire Spear Technique, Lava Rain Technique—he cycled through them relentlessly.
Xu Yuexian, on the other hand, moved like a shadowy assassin. She targeted beasts that slipped through Xu Gang’s onslaught, striking with her Gold Sword Technique before disappearing like a wisp of wind.
"Little Sister, if you see that Dragon-Eyed Eagle again, don’t engage it. Let it come to me so I can handle it," Xu Gang instructed.
"Just keep an eye out for the Blade Feather Birds hiding in the sky," he added, all while hurling spells at the surrounding beasts.
"Got it," Xu Yuexian replied.
As time went on, the siblings shifted battlefields multiple times, and the enemy evolved from mid-level Qi Refinement beasts to those at the peak of Qi Refinement.
"Little Sister, watch out—the Dragon-Eyed Eagles are coming!" Xu Gang warned.
He quickly formed hand seals, and a surge of immense spiritual energy erupted from his body.
In the sky, over a dozen Dragon-Eyed Eagles, each with a wingspan of more than thirty meters, swooped down toward Xu Gang.
"Come on, enjoy the feast I’ve prepared for you!" Xu Gang shouted.
‘Lava Waterfall!’ He channeled all his spiritual energy into the attack.
Above the Dragon-Eyed Eagles, a small lake of magma formed. A gap opened, and a torrent of molten lava cascaded down like a waterfall, obliterating every Eagle in its path.
But the battle wasn’t over. Hundreds of Blade Feather Birds at the Qi Refinement Seventh Layer appeared, their wings spreading as they unleashed a deadly rain of razor-sharp feathers.
"Little Sister!" Xu Gang called out. A mage without spiritual energy was as good as useless, and he had no choice but to call for help.
A golden protective shield enveloped Xu Gang just in time.
Suddenly, a massive net materialized around the Blade Feather Birds, trapping them all.
"Brother, I’m at my limit. We need to go," Xu Yuexian said urgently.
She grabbed Xu Gang and flew toward the large door in the sky. Passing through it would mean escaping the dream realm.
Outside the dream realm, Xu Fan, who had been studying spells, sensed the events unfolding within. After a moment of observation, he smiled.
"Not bad. You’ve improved since last time," he remarked.
When the siblings awoke from the dream realm, they immediately approached Xu Fan.
"Master, how did we do this time?" Xu Gang asked nervously, recalling how their last encounter with the beasts had ended in disaster and earned them a stern lecture from Xu Fan.
"Well, you both showed good judgment in retreating and shifting the battlefield. That’s progress," Xu Fan said.
"Xu Gang, though, you still need to work on controlling your spiritual energy. You waste too much when casting spells," he continued.
"Your spell coordination is also lacking. For example, you often start with Fire Bird Technique or Explosive Flame Technique. Don’t you notice how quickly your energy drains?"
"If you had begun with the Sea of Fire Technique, you could have saved at least a quarter of your energy. Don’t be so reckless just because you have a lot of spiritual energy to spare."
Then Xu Fan gave some feedback and told the two to go back to their rooms to study the spells in the jade slips. Just then, Pang Fu arrived.
"Here are 100 bottles of high-grade speed spirit pills and Wood Spirit Pills."
"Take these four custom magical tools with you as well."
Xu Fan handed Pang Fu a storage bag directly.
Pang Fu glanced at the spirit pills and magical tools inside the storage bag and smiled broadly.
"Master Xu, I know you’ve always been interested in the Floating Sky Ship."
"I happen to have a spot available to join the Floating Sky Ship for resource gathering. Are you interested?" Pang Fu said with a mysterious tone.
Xu Fan immediately sat up straight from his reclining chair.
"Really?" Xu Fan exclaimed with excitement.
"Yes, it’s true. That spot belongs to an elder from the inner sect. I helped him find an important spirit ore, and in return, I got this reward," Pang Fu explained with a grin. He needed to make the delivery today; otherwise, he’d have to come back tomorrow.
"That’s amazing!" Xu Fan praised.
"What do you want in exchange for this spot?" Xu Fan asked.
"Actually, I wanted to ask if Master Xu is still accepting disciples," Pang Fu inquired.
"If I meet someone I resonate with, I’ll consider it," Xu Fan replied. Having a group of talented disciples to protect him in the future was part of his plan.
"Master Xu, one of my sons has dual spirit roots and is already three years old. I wonder if he could become your disciple," Pang Fu said flatteringly. He had seen Xu Fan’s two disciples before and was amazed when he witnessed the siblings sparring during one of his visits.
The idea of having Xu Fan take his son as a disciple had been on Pang Fu’s mind for a while; he just hadn’t found the right moment to bring it up.
"One of your sons?" Xu Fan looked at Pang Fu, who was around the same age as him, feeling a bit speechless that everyone seemed to be married with kids.
"Are you married?"
"I married two concubines before joining the sect, and then three after joining. Now, I have four sons and three daughters," Pang Fu replied.
"I…"
"Taking in disciples isn’t just about benefits. Your son with dual spirit roots can come when he’s six, but he’ll have to pass my test first."
"As for the Floating Sky Ship matter, I owe you a favor," Xu Fan said, feeling a bit envious of Pang Fu for being a father.
Xu Fan suddenly felt a pang of admiration for Pang Fu; having many wives and concubines was a dream for many men.
"Then, could you sell me a set of Spiritual Energy Armor?" Pang Fu asked, showing a rare shy smile.
Wang Yulun and Xu Fan were close friends, so Pang Fu paid special attention to Wang Yulun’s affairs.
Wang Yulun had publicly claimed that the Spiritual Energy Armor was discovered in a ruin, but only he knew that Xu Fan had crafted it for him. Xu Fan had seen more than one set in his treasure vault.
Others had offered up to 500,000 spirit stones to buy Wang Yulun’s set of Spiritual Energy Armor.
"That’s too noticeable. If you auction it within the sect, that’s one thing," Xu Fan shook his head. The Spiritual Energy Armor was too powerful, and selling it could lead to unwanted attention.
Xu Fan wouldn’t allow his peaceful life to be disturbed.
"Master Xu, what if we auction the Spiritual Energy Armor within the boundary of Tai Xuan Sect? Would that be acceptable?" Pang Fu suggested, having long coveted the armor.
"That’s impressive. I didn’t expect Brother Pang to have such connections," Xu Fan marveled. Tai Xuan Sect was a major sect located a million miles from Que Tian Gate, and its power was on par with Que Tian Gate.
"If that’s the case, it’s not impossible, as long as it’s kept confidential. How to proceed is up to you."
Xu Fan produced two spirit pearls the size of billiard balls, which were part of the second generation of his modified designs, called the Extraordinary Type II Armor.
"Place the pearl on your forehead, and you’ll know the basic information about the armor."
"I’ll give you one set and sell the other for me."
Xu Fan knew his crafted Spiritual Energy Armor could fetch 500,000 spirit stones, but compared to the chance to board the Floating Sky Ship early, everything was worth the exchange.
