Chapter 425: Signal
On Hidden Spirit Island, Xu Fan was lounging in the clouds, lost in thought about his techniques, when Grape delivered a report.
"Master, the signal from the Demon Suppressing Star sent by the beast race has been picked up. We’re now waiting for a return signal," Grape informed.
"How far is it?" Xu Fan asked, opening his eyes.
"Roughly across the entire central continent," Grape replied.
Xu Fan silently calculated the distance and then shrugged, "Well, that’s a bust. It’ll probably be decades before we can make contact."
"If we expend a massive amount of energy to break the seal, we could briefly activate a teleportation formation," Grape suggested.
"Right now, we’re just waiting for their response to pinpoint the exact location," Grape added.
"That doesn’t seem worth it. Besides, where would we get that kind of energy to break through the teleportation formation?" Xu Fan questioned.
Just then, a gentle breeze shifted the cloud above Xu Fan, and a beam of sunlight hit his eyes.
"Going to such extremes for a teleportation formation isn’t necessary," Xu Fan remarked, glancing at the sun, which held vast energy capable of breaking the seal.
But achieving that level would likely mean he’d have already ascended to the Immortal Realm. He might as well spend that time teaching more disciples.
"Master, at our current pace, it would take nine thousand years to generate that amount of energy," Grape noted.
"Why is that four thousand years faster than the last estimate?" Xu Fan inquired.
"Due to the newly discovered spirit ores and changes in alloy types, which have significantly boosted efficiency," Grape explained.
"Understood," Xu Fan acknowledged.
………….
At the Artifact Crafting Peak of the Hidden Spirit Sect, Xiang Yun observed Ertie hammering an unformed Spiritual Sword with a precious artifact spiritual hammer.
"Ertie, the precious artifact spiritual swords you craft are top-notch. Even though they’re second-tier, their power rivals that of fourth-tier spiritual swords," Xiang Yun complimented Ertie, who was engrossed in his work.
Xiang Yun had recently visited the Artifact Crafting Peak to find an artifact master to forge some spiritual swords for his core sword formation and had come across Ertie at work.
What’s a swordsman’s greatest fortune in the Sword Formation Path? An endless supply of Spiritual Swords? An artifact master who can quickly produce high-quality spiritual swords?
Xiang Yun had found both.
The two had quickly formed a strong bond, like a fire catching on dry wood.
"Xiang Yun, you’re too kind. I can only forge some spiritual swords and blades. Compared to the other masters here, I’m nothing special," Ertie said humbly as he worked.
"Don’t sell yourself short. Your skill in forging spiritual swords alone earns you respect from swordsmen everywhere," Xiang Yun laughed. Since exchanging points for ten second-tier precious artifact spiritual swords with Ertie, his fighting strength had significantly improved.
"Haha, you’re too generous, Xiang Yun."
As Ertie delivered the final hammer strike, the spiritual sword gleamed and solidified into a third-tier precious artifact spiritual sword.
Ertie handed the sword to Xiang Yun.
"Xiang Yun, here’s the twenty-third spiritual sword. Thanks for supporting my work," Ertie said gratefully.
He was aware that the sect’s treasury was well-stocked with talismans, from basic to top-tier Dao instruments, and that anything imaginable could be found there.
Rumor had it that in a secret part of the sect, hundreds of artifact masters were dedicated to crafting talismans, making artifact masters perhaps the least valued in the sect.
"Only seventy-seven more to go. Keep up the good work, brother!" Xiang Yun smiled as he transferred the points to Ertie.
"Xiang Yun, brother, that’s too much," Ertie said, looking at the points that had just arrived.
"It’s extra for your hard work. The Spiritual Swords you crafted have a unique power compared to ordinary ones; they’re worth more than what you paid," Xiang Yun smiled, then pulled out several bags of deep-sea shrimp chips from his space ring.
"I heard your little sister enjoys these snacks, so I bought some," Xiang Yun mentioned. Every half month, he saw a slightly chubby girl in the main peak’s cafeteria, clinging to the Hidden Spirit Sect’s head chef, wanting to apprentice and learn. Later, he found out she was Ertie’s sister.
"Haha. Has my little sister’s reputation already reached you, Senior Brother?" Ertie said with an awkward smile.
At that moment, a Small Spiritual Boat stopped at the entrance of Ertie’s cave. A young girl with snacks in her hands walked in.
"Greetings, Senior Brother," Eryuan said politely after seeing Xiang Yun, knowing he was her brother’s friend or guest.
"Hello, Junior Sister," Xiang Yun replied with a smile.
Then Eryuan noticed the bags of deep-sea shrimp chips on the table and instantly lit up with excitement.
"Ah, thank you, brother! I love these deep-sea shrimp chips the most! Too bad the chef at the main peak doesn’t make them often," Eryuan said, promptly opening a bag and happily munching on it.
"Don’t be rude; these shrimp chips were specially brought for you by Senior Brother Xiang Yun. You should thank him," Ertie said sternly. Good food is fine, but one must not forget their manners.
"Thank you for the shrimp chips, Senior Brother! Eryuan will never forget your generosity~~" Eryuan dramatically dropped to her knees with a flourish, her voice ringing out with heroic flair.
"……….." Ertie.
"This is too much!" Xiang Yun quickly helped Eryuan up, looking at his lovable little Junior Sister with a mix of amusement and embarrassment.
"Senior Brother, you are a good person~" Eryuan said, touched as she continued to eat the shrimp chips.
Now Eryuan had ranked Xiang Yun as the fourth person she wanted to thank.
Why fourth? Because Xiang Yun was the fourth person to actively bring her snacks, and they were her absolute favorite, deep-sea shrimp chips.
As she saw Xiang Yun leave, Eryuan couldn’t help but glance back at him with reluctance.
"I wonder what Senior Brother Xiang Yun will bring me next time. How should I thank him then?" Eryuan pondered.
Ertie watched as his little sister gazed longingly in the direction in which Xiang Yun had departed, feeling a bit of a headache. What would happen if someone, attracted to her beauty, tried to tempt her with food?
"Eryuan, if someone offers you snacks or treats like that and asks you to be their cultivation partner, you must not agree!" Ertie said sternly.
"Brother, I just love good food, not that I’m foolish," Eryuan rolled her eyes at her older brother and headed back to her room, looking forward to what the cafeteria would offer for lunch—hopefully a feast of crab meat.
Meanwhile, Xiang Yun was returning to his courtyard to prepare for a mission when he suddenly saw a Cloud Flower Deer coming out from a space crack, holding a Spiritual Sword of unknown material in its mouth.
"Grape, did you see that scene just now?" Xiang Yun inquired.
"I have detected it, thank you for the tip. You have earned one thousand points," Grape’s voice replied.
"One thousand points!" Xiang Yun exclaimed happily.
Before long, the sword that the Cloud Flower Deer had brought appeared in Xu Fan’s hand, along with the deer, captured by a large hand of spiritual energy.
