Chapter 309: The Tide of Beasts Approaches
In the Void Realm, ten miles outside a small town, within a military camp,
Li Xingci, feeling quite worn out, took off his headband, rubbed his eyes, and glanced over at the two beside him, who were deeply engrossed in their intense battle. He shook his head in dismay.
“Talent is such a fickle thing,” he muttered.
Ever since the trio started training in the camp, Li Xingci had come to a frustrating realization: he had no knack for controlling these puppets.
In the virtual training arena, he hadn’t even managed to clear the first level.
Just then, a tool puppet entered, carrying their meal.
“Time to eat,” Li Xingci said, his voice lacking energy.
Su Rantian and the old man, who were in the midst of training, removed their headbands.
“How far have you gotten?” Li Xingci asked.
The virtual training arena consisted of ten levels. Completing them would make defeating Nascent Soul stage beasts with the Light Energy Armor a breeze.
“I’m on the sixth level,” Su Rantian replied, her small belly slightly rounded.
“I’ve reached the fifth level,” the old man said with a smile.
“Kid, your master must be an artifact master, perhaps even an artifact great master.
“To use light energy without consuming spiritual energy is extraordinary, and controlling the Light Energy Armor with just your thoughts is no easier than cultivation,” the old man remarked, his eyes gleaming. He knew his time here was nearing its end.
“Alright, once you clear the level, we’ll head for the Void Gate.
“Elder, I hope you’ll take the lead when the time comes,” Li Xingci requested.
“Naturally. I can’t have you going in as cannon fodder, especially with your wife pregnant. If I don’t step up, who will?” the old man said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“Thank you, Elder,” Li Xingci said.
Suddenly, alarms blared throughout the camp, and a massive light curtain projected above them, filled with the images of beasts—tens of thousands, at least.
“These are Golden Core level beasts,” the old man said gravely, eyeing the 20-meter-tall giant beasts on the light curtain.
“Did they sense a threat?” Li Xingci wondered.
“The beasts in this world seem to have a unique sensitivity to energy. They must have been drawn by the light energy aura in the camp,” the old man explained.
He then turned to Li Xingci and asked, “This base is secure, right?”
“Master marked this camp to withstand Golden Core level invasions. It should hold,” Li Xingci assured.
At that moment, the entire camp went on high alert. Waves of battle puppets surged out from the main camp, each carrying special firearms on their backs.
“Is this Second Senior Sister’s treasure?” Li Xingci asked, vividly recalling Xu Yuexian’s massive gun.
Just then, the leading beast let out a mighty roar, and all the beasts began their assault on the camp.
As the three watched the camp’s counterattack, three Gravity Rods descended from the sky, carrying immense weight as they crashed into the ground.
‘Boom~~’
The earth shook violently, and a third of the beast horde was obliterated.
Then, the giant cannon on the military camp began to unleash its power, and the puppets armed with firearms started targeting the beasts one by one.
“Kid, once we return, I must meet your master. Anyone capable of crafting such puppets and weapons will definitely become an artifact great master in the future,” the old man said.
In the cultivation world, what could make a Great Ascension Master set aside his pride? Only an artifact great master could do that. After all, who wouldn’t want a celestial tool before ascending?
If all else fails, obtaining a celestial tool upon reaching the Immortal Realm would suffice.
The battle outside the camp lasted three whole hours, and finally ended after the puppets and giant cannon destroyed half of the beasts.
“Post-battle mode activated.”
At this moment, the tool puppets in the camp began to move, collecting puppet parts and harvesting beast crystals.
When the three people emerged from the camp, they found the entire ground stained red.
“Let’s move to another place; staying here will likely result in constant disturbances,” the old man said.
“Request approved. Moving on,” a golden sphere appeared to inform the three.
At this moment, the puppets began to reshape, and the surrounding puppets gathered towards the camp, ultimately forming a large square that returned to Li Xingci’s fingernail.
Just then, a helicopter appeared in front of the three.
“Is this a manned spiritual boat?” The old man marveled at the strange thing before him.
“This is a helicopter. When I was little, my master crafted one that could fly simply by soaking up the sun,” Li Xingci explained as he led Su Rantian and the old man onto the helicopter.
On the helicopter, the old man looked at the vast land below and said with emotion, “I haven’t seen such land in a hundred years.”
“I also haven’t seen it in nearly one year,” Li Xingci replied, suddenly feeling that the cultivation world he had lived in for over a hundred years seemed distant.
“Husband, when we return, let’s hold our cultivation partner ceremony officially; my master doesn’t have much time left,” Su Rantian said.
“Alright.”
At this moment, the old man looked at the two and asked, “I haven’t inquired about your identities; which sect are you from on the central continent?”
“I come from a Hidden Small Sect that you surely haven’t heard of.”
“But my wife is the town guardian of the Elder Council in the fairy city,” Li Xingci added.
“The Elder Council? Well, just a bit of old grudges,” the old man sighed, thinking that apart from the unresolved feud with that elder in the Elder Council, there wasn’t much animosity.
At that moment, Li Xingci continued, “My master is Great Respected Elder Yan.”
“Great Respected Elder Yan?!” the old man exclaimed, recalling the parts of his past he preferred to forget.
“Elder, what’s the matter? Do you have a grudge?” Li Xingci asked.
“It’s nothing serious,” the old man absentmindedly touched his backside, where the burn mark had yet to fade.
“Then that’s good,” Li Xingci nodded.
“Xingci, your guardian is now my responsibility,” the old man stated.
With his own strength, seeking revenge against that old monster was impossible; however, protecting a younger generation who took your disciple might count as some consolation.
At that moment, the helicopter landed on a mountain peak.
“This place is quite suitable; at least ordinary beasts can’t reach it,” Li Xingci said, looking around.
Then, the camp unfolded atop the mountain, perfectly covering the entire peak, and the three began to continue their training.
At the Hidden Spirit Sect, Xu Fan routinely ate with Wang Yulun.
“I’ve told you already, Xingci will return soon, without any danger.”
This was the fourth time Xu Fan had said such words. He hadn’t realized before how much his good brother valued his son.
“I’m just worried,” Wang Yulun said slowly.
“I fear I might die without ever seeing Xingci again,” Xu Fan directly voiced Wang Yulun’s unspoken concerns.
“Don’t worry; you might not have fully recovered your cultivation yet, but it will get better,” Xu Fan suggested, feeling that Wang Yulun’s incessant chatter might be related to his current frail state.
