Chapter 278: Communication Between Master Craftsmen
After Xu Fan finished packing, just as he was about to meet Su Rantian’s master with Li Xingci, Li Xingci called out to Xu Fan.
"Master, are you really going in person?" Li Xingci asked.
"If I sent a clone for something like this, wouldn’t that be looked down upon?" Xu Fan replied, his eyes shining. "This is something that requires sincerity."
If things escalate and a clone shows up, people would think you’re backing down.
"Your battle intent seems pretty high," Li Xingci said, noticing Xu Fan’s imposing aura.
"You don’t get it. This time, it’s all about momentum, so of course, the battle intent needs to be strong," Xu Fan explained.
"I’ve already looked into your wife’s master. For this trip, we just need to stick to two words."
"What are those two words?" Li Xingci felt a surge of excitement.
"Don’t back down!"
Aboard the spiritual boat heading to Lin Sen Fairy City, Xu Fan was deep in thought about what to say during the meeting.
"Master, aren’t you going to do a divination?" Li Xingci asked, knowing his master’s usual routine.
"No need. As long as there’s no life-threatening danger, it’s fine," Xu Fan said, waving his hand.
The reason Xu Fan didn’t hesitate to go with Li Xingci was that the meeting was set at the Elder Council headquarters.
That place was also one of the spots Xu Fan had been wanting to visit.
Upper Zun Fairy City was the first stop before entering the Elder Council headquarters.
As soon as Xu Fan and Li Xingci stepped out of the teleportation formation, Xu Fan squinted his eyes.
"This fairy city is in the Extreme Void Domain; we’re on a star," Xu Fan observed, glancing at the distant stars.
According to Xu Fan’s calculations, this planet was slightly larger than Earth in his previous life.
"Quite the impressive setup," Xu Fan remarked, looking at the rune formations that covered the entire star, replacing its atmosphere.
The two then arrived at a tall tower, which served as the gateway for teleportation to the Elder Council headquarters.
At the base of the tower, Xu Fan and Li Xingci were stopped by the guards.
"Friends, you don’t have permission to enter the tower. Please leave," the guard at the gate said politely.
"May I ask how one can qualify to enter the tower for teleportation to the Elder Council headquarters?" Xu Fan asked calmly, as if it were just a test of resolve.
"Only those at least at the Core Formation stage, or masters in artifact crafting, alchemy, beast control, or formations can enter," the guard explained.
"How do I prove that I’m a master in artifact crafting?" Xu Fan asked politely.
"This fairy city is the official assessment center of the Elder Council. They’ll issue the proof," the guard replied.
"Understood," Xu Fan said.
Xu Fan then took Li Xingci and flew toward the assessment location.
On the way, Li Xingci said, "Master, about today’s matter, I’ll ask Tian’er’s master for an explanation."
"Stay calm. Haven’t I told you? Handle things as they come," Xu Fan advised.
"If you act like that, it’ll only make things worse," Xu Fan said with a smile.
He wasn’t one to hold grudges, blessed with an endless lifespan—though he might not retaliate for minor slights, time was on his side.
"Understood," Li Xingci said, bowing his head slightly. His only wish was to seek justice for his master.
The entire planet was considered part of the fairy city, so flying was unrestricted.
A modest spiritual boat glided toward the direction known to the guards.
Onboard, Xu Fan gazed intently at the formation in the sky.
"Master, what’s special about the formation up there?" Li Xingci asked.
"This planet moves incredibly fast. The most fascinating part is that its power source comes directly from the sun above," Xu Fan explained thoughtfully.
"That doesn’t seem too hard. The spiritual energy for our sect’s puppets also comes from the Spirit Gathering Formation you created, right?" Li Xingci replied, feeling both were equally impressive.
"Not exactly. It’s about the efficiency of conversion. I… never mind, you wouldn’t get it. Anyway, the person who designed this formation is at least as skilled as my master in rune formations," Xu Fan said, still staring at the sky.
From what he could tell, this formation could teleport the entire star deep into the Extreme Void Domain. Even better, like those Star Ships, it could roam every corner of the cultivation world without needing spirit stones as long as there was sunlight.
Just then, a volcanic mountain range came into view, with a phoenix made of divine fire soaring above the peaks.
"Divine fire," Xu Fan murmured, his eyes filled with awe.
Spirit fire had its own hierarchy, and Xu Fan could only handle lower-tier spirit fires. Divine fire, however, was on a whole other level—comparable to celestial tools in value. With his current resources, he couldn’t even dream of acquiring it.
"Artifact crafting here would probably be faster," Xu Fan thought, considering whether to send his first clone over.
They landed in front of the largest volcano, and a mountain gate slowly opened.
"Welcome to Fire Phoenix Mountain, friends."
"Are you here to rent an artifact crafting room or for an assessment?" the receptionist at the entrance asked.
"Master craftsman assessment. Also, is the alchemist assessment held here as well?" Xu Fan inquired.
"Yes, this is the northern district. The alchemy assessment is in the southern district."
"Thank you. Please take us to the master craftsman assessment area first," Xu Fan said politely.
"Of course, follow me," the receptionist said, pulling out a puppet carriage from her spatial ring.
Inside the carriage, the receptionist glanced at Li Xingci and remarked, "I didn’t expect someone so young to already be a master craftsman."
The subtle flattery made Xu Fan cringe. Li Xingci was about to explain, but Xu Fan stopped him with a look.
Was it just because they hadn’t hidden their cultivation? Or because they looked ordinary? Was that why he couldn’t take the spotlight?
The puppet carriage brought them to a grand hall.
"Please wait a moment, friends. I’ve informed the hall master, and he’s on his way," the receptionist said politely.
Master craftsmen were rare on the central continent, so the Elder Council took their assessments very seriously.
Soon, a short, thin old man entered the hall.
The moment he saw Xu Fan, his eyes lit up, and he strode right over.
"I’ve heard of your reputation, and seeing you today, it’s clear you live up to the hype."
"Grand Elder of the Hidden Spirit Sect, please come in. No need for an assessment—I’ll give you the master craftsman token shortly," the old man said warmly.
"Damn it, privacy really doesn’t exist in this world," Xu Fan thought to himself.
Xu Fan and Li Xingci were led into the hall.
The receptionist watched them leave, puzzled as to why the more handsome one wasn’t the master craftsman.
The old man took Xu Fan straight to his collection room.
"Master, what’s this?" Xu Fan asked.
"Oh, I forgot you haven’t attended the master craftsman exchange meeting since arriving on the central continent," the old man said, slapping his forehead.
"Here, there’s a tradition among master craftsmen: during the first meeting, you show each other your crafted tools to exchange insights," the old man explained with a smile.
