Chapter 259: Task Guessing
“Are the cultivators of the Joyful Union Sacred Land always this straightforward?” Xiong Li asked.
“Not usually. We have a routine at the Hero’s Tomb, and it almost never fails.”
“But you’re an exception. Seven of my enchanting sisters came to you, and you didn’t fancy any of them. Instead, you were busy chasing after the beast race.”
“That’s why the Grand Elder sent me,” Zhuang Ling said, her voice low and resonant as she looked down at Xiong Li.
Zhuang Ling was half a head taller than Xiong Li, so she had to glance slightly downward to meet his eyes.
“So, what’s the plan? Are you going to knock me out and drag me back to your sacred land?”
Xiong Li’s tone was calm, with a hint of camaraderie, but it was just the mutual respect between body cultivators.
“No, our sacred land is a righteous sect. We don’t act like the Demon Sect, abducting male cultivators,” Zhuang Ling replied.
At that moment, Zhuang Ling pulled out a pair of precious artifact gauntlets and slipped them on.
“We’re both body cultivators, so let’s settle this the way body cultivators do.”
“We’ll fight. If I win, you’ll come back to the sacred land with me, and I’ll find you a lovely sister to marry into our sect.”
“If I lose, you can do whatever you want with me.”
Zhuang Ling’s fists collided, producing a loud ‘bang bang’ sound.
“You’re at the Nascent Soul stage, and I’m at the Golden Core stage. Isn’t that a bit unfair?” Xiong Li said, recalling how Zhuang Ling had sent a Transformation Stage giant rock beast flying with a single punch.
“Stop hesitating!”
Zhuang Ling launched a punch at Xiong Li.
‘Ding~~’
Xiong Li, along with his newly summoned ten-zhang bronze true form, was sent flying. Meanwhile, Zhuang Ling bent her legs and sprang into the air, transforming into a hundred-meter-tall golden giant. She swung her fist at Xiong Li, who was still mid-air.
Xiong Li suddenly felt a sense of déjà vu.
In midair, Xiong Li paused, his bronze true form’s feet digging into the ground, and a five-colored protective shield enveloped his entire body.
‘Five Elements Harmony Shield’
This was Xiong Li’s strongest defense.
As Zhuang Ling’s fist struck Xiong Li’s shield, the ground around them trembled violently, mountains crumbled, and the earth split.
In an instant, the area where they stood turned into a massive hundred-meter-wide crater.
Zhuang Ling’s iron fist pressed against Xiong Li’s shield.
“Your protective magic is quite something,” Zhuang Ling remarked.
“If it weren’t, I’d be a ghost under your fist by now.”
“Alright, now it’s my turn,” Xiong Li said, his expression turning serious.
In that moment, a tremendous force radiated from Xiong Li, pushing Zhuang Ling back.
Xiong Li transformed into a giant Earth Spirit, matching Zhuang Ling’s golden form in size.
As the Grand Elder of the sect always said, one must never lose momentum in a fight. If the enemy grows larger and conditions allow, you must become even bigger to overwhelm them with sheer presence.
“When I came here, I checked your profile. I figured you weren’t a nobody, so tell me your sect,” Zhuang Ling said, eyeing the towering Xiong Li.
“Wind Spirit Moon Shadow Sect, Wanshi,” Xiong Li replied, naming a sect from the trial tower game.
“A hidden sect, huh? Good. Don’t forget our deal,” Zhuang Ling said before charging forward.
Meanwhile, Xu Fan, back at the Hidden Spirit Sect, was watching the fight through a celestial satellite feed from the fairy city where Xiong Li was.
“Now that’s a real man,” Xu Fan commented, watching the intense battle.
“This is the Joyful Union Sacred Land for you. Even the heart-stealers are this skilled—they’ve got every type of female cultivator.”
“Wonder if Xiong Li’s into any of them,” Xu Fan said with a smirk.
“There’s a ninety-nine percent chance Xiong Li isn’t interested in this body refinement female cultivator,” Grape chimed in.
“What if he is?” Xu Fan shrugged.
“Xiong Li’s naturally not into women. His only goal is to reach a high level of cultivation and protect the Hidden Spirit Sect,” Grape explained.
As he spoke, light curtains floated around Xu Fan, showing scenes from Xiong Li’s life in the sect.
What stood out to Xu Fan was the look in Xiong Li’s eyes whenever the sect was under attack—a fierce determination to fight and even die for it.
“He’s a real fanatic,” Xu Fan muttered.
Back in the battle, Xiong Li and Zhuang Ling were going all out.
Zhuang Ling’s ice-and-fire fists were giving Xiong Li a hard time, but he didn’t want to rely on his treasures to win.
“Wanshi, use your trump card. There’s no shame in using a treasure,” Zhuang Ling urged.
Xiong Li glanced at her treasures, then thought of his own. He decided against using them—it felt like cheating.
But then, a massive phantom appeared behind Zhuang Ling, and she threw a punch at Xiong Li, the force of ice and fire combined.
Seeing that, Xiong Li decided his life was more important than fairness. A giant spirit clad in heavy armor and wielding massive hammers appeared behind him. With a thunderous crash, the giant swung its hammer down at Zhuang Ling.
The hammer shattered Zhuang Ling’s golden form, sending her flying like a baseball.
Xiong Li returned to his normal state, watching Zhuang Ling vanish into the distance. “I might’ve gone a little too hard,” he said sheepishly.
“A little? That was brutal.”
Just then, Qian Bing walked over, grinning at Xiong Li. “Didn’t expect to show up just in time to see Senior Brother’s ruthless side.”
“If you’re not into her, don’t hurt her,” Qian Bing teased.
Hearing that, Xiong Li felt his fists itch.
“Enough talk. Send your puppet to bring Zhuang Ling back,” Xiong Li ordered.
“Already on it. After all, she might end up being a sister-in-law someday,” Qian Bing said with a laugh.
“What are you doing here?” Xiong Li asked.
“First, I came to see you, Senior Brother. Second, Grape gave me a task to clear out the beast race in Black Stone Fairy City.”
“Black Stone Fairy City’s right next door,” Qian Bing added.
At that moment, a streak of sword light flashed, and Xiang Yun appeared in front of them.
“Senior Brother, Qian Brother,” Xiang Yun greeted.
“I was passing through this fairy city when the sect’s signal picked up both of you, so I thought I’d check in. How’ve you been, brothers?” Xiang Yun said warmly.
Just then, a puppet carrying the unconscious Zhuang Ling returned.
Xiang Yun glanced at Zhuang Ling, then at Xiong Li. “Did I come at a bad time?”
“No, perfect timing. Senior Brother just had a little spar with a friend… ah~~”
Before Qian Bing could finish, Xiong Li punched him away.
“It’s fine! I just ran into a body refinement expert and had a quick match,” Xiong Li said, laughing.
“Oh, I get it,” Xiang Yun said, giving Xiong Li a knowing look.
“Where are you headed, Junior Brother Xiang Yun?” Xiong Li asked, a bit annoyed.
“Grape gave me a task to hunt beasts in Warm Jade Fairy City,” Xiang Yun replied.
“Another task from Grape,” Xiong Li muttered.
