Chapter 258: Two Strong Souls Meet
In the Joyful Union Sacred Land, a female cultivator stood two meters tall, with arms as thick as stone pillars and fists as large as cooking pots. She was practicing punches on a solid ball made of ten-thousand-year cold iron. Each punch left a shallow imprint on the rusted surface of the ancient iron ball.
‘Duang~~’
A wave of sound energy rippled outwards.
In the distance, a Core Formation Stage Elder from the Joyful Union Sacred Land watched Zhuang Ling striking the iron ball with a bit of a headache.
"Today I went to speak with the pulse master again, but she still won’t agree to transfer Zhuang Ling to the Seven Killers lineage," the elder sighed.
"Elder, although Zhuang Ling may not fit into our Hero’s Tomb, her strength far exceeds that of ordinary talents. Calling her a prodigy isn’t an exaggeration."
"She can complete tasks and stay in the sacred land as a guardian for our lineage, which is also quite good," a delicately featured female cultivator beside the elder chimed in.
Another thunderous sound echoed.
A wave of sound swept over the elder and the female cultivator.
At that moment, the communication artifact of the Hero’s Tomb elder buzzed.
The elder picked up the communication artifact, glanced at it, and immediately wore a smile.
"Zhuang Ling has a mission this time," the elder said happily.
Zhuang Ling, still training, paused and curiously looked at the elder from afar, buzzing, "I have a mission?"
Her tone was one of disbelief; how could she have a mission with her current state? Did they forget about the last time she nearly killed her target?
"This is a body refinement prodigy; Golden Core is chasing after a Nascent Soul Stage beast."
"Your sisters have all failed. They keep thinking that a steel-like man needs a steel-like woman to conquer him."
"You can give it a try; it’s a good chance to get out and clear your mind. Staying in the sect all the time can drive you crazy," the elder said politely.
A figure materialized beside the elder using the light shadow technique; it was Xiong Li in a transformed appearance.
"A body refinement prodigy, very good. I wonder how many of my punches he can withstand," Zhuang Ling’s eyes glimmered with excitement.
"When you approach this body refinement prodigy, pay attention to your methods. Success or failure isn’t important, but don’t damage the reputation of our Hero’s Tomb lineage," the elder said with heartfelt advice, aware of the lessons learned from past mistakes.
"I understand. All right, send the information to my communication artifact later. I’ll go prepare," Zhuang Ling said, walking towards her courtyard.
Watching Zhuang Ling tread with careful footsteps, the elder began to worry about whether Xiong Li, who could defeat three same-level beasts with a single punch at the Nascent Soul Stage, could withstand her.
"Brother Wanshi, my sisters and I have been summoned back to the sect."
"Thank you for taking care of us during this time, Brother Wanshi."
"Goodbye, Brother Wanshi."
As the troublesome female cultivators began to dwindle, a smile of relief began to spread across Xiong Li’s face.
It was only after the last female cultivator left that he sighed in relief.
He had already done his homework on these cultivators; they were disciples from the Hero’s Tomb lineage of the Joyful Union Sacred Land, known for using their beauty to attract talented prodigies into their sacred land.
Though Xiong Li didn’t find them particularly beautiful, he understood that other disciples from the sect might fall for their traps, which would certainly lead to trouble, even if it wouldn’t result in expulsion from the sect.
Just then, a member of the Outer Sect from the Hidden Spirit Sect appeared beside Xiong Li.
“What did the sect send this time?” Xiong Li asked, noticing the insignia of the Hidden Spirit Sect’s Outer Sect member.
The Outer Sect member handed Xiong Li a small jade box.
“Not sure, just this little box.”
“I’ve got other inner sect disciples to deliver to, so I’ll be on my way.”
“Go ahead.”
After the Outer Sect member left, Xiong Li opened the small jade box out of curiosity and found a jade slip inside.
“This is a spell,” Xiong Li muttered, puzzled, before noticing Xu Fan’s imprint, signaling that all members should take this spell seriously.
“If the sect wants us to learn it, I’ll give it a shot,” Xiong Li said.
Meanwhile, Xu Fan, who was keeping tabs on Xiong Li, noticed that the female cultivators from the Hero’s Tomb who had been surrounding him had all left. He sighed regretfully, saying, “Seems they’ve already experienced the terror of a straight-shooting man.”
“Wonder if they’ll send more female cultivators to try and charm Xiong Li.”
For some reason, Xu Fan had a soft spot for stories where women pursued men. When Wang Yulun had shared his own forced experiences, Xu Fan had felt a twinge of jealousy but still found the tales oddly thrilling.
Just then, Xiong Li felt a powerful tremor in the distance.
A fifty-meter-long giant rock beast was charging straight at him.
“A Transformation Stage demon beast—way out of my league. Time to run!” Xiong Li quickly assessed the situation and made a beeline for the fairy city.
For some inexplicable reason, the giant rock beast seemed hell-bent on chasing Xiong Li, as if he’d done something to its mate.
Xiong Li’s expression shifted slightly. According to the sect’s outdoor survival guide, he realized he’d been framed.
The beast’s hate-filled eyes told him everything: someone had pinned the blame on him.
“Looks like I’ll have to fight for my life,” Xiong Li muttered as he ran.
Just as Xiong Li was about to use his last resort to escape, a burly figure leaped over him and delivered a punch to the giant rock beast.
‘Boom!’
The mountain-sized beast was sent flying.
The figure then leaped into the air, transforming into a hundred-meter-tall golden form, and delivered another punch to the already downed beast.
‘Boom!’
The ground was blasted into a crater nearly a hundred meters wide, with the giant rock beast lying at the bottom.
The beast’s eyes flickered with fear as it scrambled to its feet and fled into the wilderness.
As a seasoned performer, the giant rock beast knew its role was done.
Xiong Li stood there, stunned. He couldn’t believe it—he’d just been saved by a female cultivator.
Zhuang Ling slowly approached him.
“Kid, how are you going to repay me for saving your life?” Zhuang Ling said in a deep voice, slapping Xiong Li’s shoulder with a hand the size of a fan.
‘Thud!’
Xiong Li’s legs sank into the ground.
He looked up at this extraordinary woman and said, “I never asked you to save me. It was just a Transformation Stage beast; I could’ve escaped on my own.”
As he pulled his legs out of the ground, he added, “But thanks anyway.”
It was then that Xiong Li took a proper look at Zhuang Ling.
She wasn’t unattractive—in fact, up close, she had a unique blend of strength and beauty. Though her build was robust, there was an unexpected softness to her.
Under Xiong Li’s gaze, Zhuang Ling felt a flicker of nervousness and blurted out, “If you’re grateful, then marry me!”
“………”
Hearing this, Xiong Li immediately understood who she was.
“You’ve got the wrong phrasing,” Xiong Li said with a grin.
