Chapter 24: The Modified Spiritual Wind Boat
After breakfast, Xu Fan parted ways with Ye Xiaoyao.
"Will this guy’s cultivation drop to the third level of Qi Refinement before the old man shows up?" Xu Fan wondered, stroking his chin.
Just then, Xu Fan spotted a spiritual wind tree in the woods that was twice as big as the surrounding spirit trees.
His eyes lit up; he had been searching for the perfect spiritual wind tree to craft a Spiritual Wind Boat since he arrived, but none in the spiritual wind forest had met his standards.
Finally finding one, Xu Fan summoned the Tongyou Flying Sword and swiftly cut through the thick trunk of the spiritual wind tree.
Suddenly, a furious roar echoed from a distance.
The ground began to shake as Xu Fan calmly looked toward the source of the sound, with the Tongyou Sword and thirty-six Blunt Needles hidden in the air.
A giant bear demon, five meters long and charging like a heavy truck, came barreling toward him.
"A Qi Refinement Eighth Layer beast? Perfect for breaking in my artifact."
The Tongyou Flying Sword instantly turned into a blur, followed by the Blunt Needles, racing toward the giant bear.
The bear glanced at the black flying sword, which looked like a toothpick, with a hint of disdain in its eyes.
"Roar!"
With a thunderous roar, thick stone armor formed on the bear’s body, turning it from a truck into an armored tank.
"Wow, it’s using its innate skill. Looks like I’ll have to put in some effort," Xu Fan said, directing the flying sword and Blunt Needles to aim for the bear’s eyes.
"Bang!"
The Tongyou Flying Sword was swatted away by the bear, its bell-like eyes mocking Xu Fan.
As if a toothpick could hurt me.
Xu Fan smirked back at the bear.
"Snap!"
In an instant, the giant bear’s eyes were pierced. Before it could even roar, it collapsed to the ground, and the thirty-six Blunt Needles flew back to Xu Fan from its blinded eyes.
"Too easy," Xu Fan said as he began collecting materials from the bear.
"Bear bile, bear skin, bear paws, bear heart, bear bones—all valuable stuff."
He sighed, wishing his storage bag were bigger. At Que Tian Gate, even a basic one-zhang storage bag cost 300 spirit stones. His three-zhang bag had set him back 1,500 spirit stones.
After dealing with the bear, Xu Fan hoisted the massive trunk of the spiritual wind wood and flew off to craft a Spiritual Wind Boat.
The jade slip he got from Artifact Crafting Peak listed over 100 artifacts craftable during the Qi Training Stage, including the Spiritual Wind Boat, one of the few vehicle-type artifacts available at that level.
Finding a flat area, Xu Fan set up a light shadow protective shield to hide the spot.
"Good thing I brought some fire spirit stones when I arrived. I can only make a basic version of the Spiritual Wind Boat for now and upgrade it later."
A fully formed Spiritual Wind Boat stretched over ten meters long—far too big for his storage bag. To take it with him, he’d have to refine it into an artifact.
The trunk he dragged was four meters in diameter. If not for Xu Fan’s superior spiritual energy compared to others at his level, moving it would have been a real challenge.
Xu Fan looked at the trunk of the spiritual wind tree, which was four meters in diameter and over twenty meters long, and felt more and more satisfied.
“Just turning it into a spiritual wind boat seems a bit wasteful.”
At that moment, Xu Fan had a brilliant idea. He decided to craft two artifacts: one would be a standard spiritual wind boat with tail wings, and the other would be an attachment with airplane-like wings that could be added to the spiritual wind boat later.
And just like that, the design for a modified spiritual wind jet was born.
With this in mind, Xu Fan summoned his flying sword and started the initial processing of the spiritual wind tree trunk.
Three hours later, Xu Fan took out three fire spirit stones and arranged them into a fire-gathering formation. He then summoned spirit fire and began refining the processed spiritual wind boat.
Two days later, Xu Fan looked at the spiritual wind boat and its accompanying artifact, nodding in satisfaction.
“The heavens didn’t create me, Xu Fan, for nothing. The path of artifact crafting would be eternally dark without me,” Xu Fan said with a touch of narcissism.
Just then, a specific high-frequency signal reached him.
Xu Fan’s expression tightened—it was the distress signal he had given to Wang Yulun.
“Didn’t think it’d be useful so soon,” Xu Fan muttered.
Without even bothering to paint the spiritual wind boat, he attached the wings and transformed it into a streak of light, racing toward the source of the signal.
Meanwhile, Wang Yulun and Murong Qianer were running for their lives, pursued by a massive swarm of bees that seemed furious, as if they had been insulted.
“Husband, are you sure calling Big Brother Xu will save us?” Murong Qianer asked, glancing back at the overwhelming swarm with worry.
“If it comes to it, I’ll use the blood-burning secret technique to burn my essence blood and escape with you,” Murong Qianer said, gritting her teeth.
At that moment, the swarm was almost upon them.
Wang Yulun wrapped one arm around Murong Qianer while forming a spell seal with the other. Instantly, the distance between them and the swarm increased significantly.
This was one of the escape secret techniques Xu Fan had taught Wang Yulun, though it consumed a lot of spiritual energy.
Wang Yulun quickly swallowed a high-grade speed spirit pill, and his pale face slowly regained its color.
“Husband, just relying on speed spirit pills won’t solve this. Let me use the blood-burning secret technique,” Murong Qianer urged, knowing Wang Yulun had already used his secret technique three times in quick succession.
“Wait another fifteen minutes. If we’re still in danger, then we’ll use the blood-burning technique.”
“Let’s hope Big Brother Xu gets here in time.”
“Alright.”
The two continued their desperate run.
Meanwhile, Xu Fan, aboard the spiritual wind boat, began to feel a bit lightheaded.
“Is this what breaking the sound barrier feels like?”
As he accelerated fully, a shockwave burst forth.
After savoring the thrill of speed for a moment, Xu Fan pushed the boat to its limits, flying toward the source of the signal.
The intense force pressed against him, creating a slight pressure on his body.
Not long after, while flying at high speed, Xu Fan saw the enormous swarm of bees blotting out the sky in the distance.
‘Eagle Eye Technique!’
Xu Fan’s vision sharpened, and he clearly saw the swarm and the two people fleeing ahead. He couldn’t help but gasp.
“Only someone with a death wish would mess with this—this is the Spirit Devouring Peak!”
Even a Golden Core cultivator would avoid this place at all costs.
“It’s Big Brother Xu! We’re saved!” Wang Yulun shouted excitedly when he spotted Xu Fan in the distance.
But just then, the massive swarm behind them suddenly accelerated, quickly surrounding the two.
Their expressions shifted from hope to despair. They knew that once trapped by the Spirit Devouring Peak, even secret techniques wouldn’t save them.
As the swarm closed in, the two shared a deep, sorrowful look, embracing each other as they prepared to face the end together.
“I’m sorry, Big Brother Xu. I’ve dragged you into this,” Wang Yulun thought, regretting that he had only wanted Xu Fan to use his Foundation Establishment-level speed to save them.
At that moment, a deafening roar echoed through the air.
Xu Fan, standing on the spiritual wind boat, wore a fierce expression. He pulled out a bottle of speed spirit pills, poured them into his mouth, and quickly formed spell seals with both hands. A surge of immense spiritual energy began to build within him.
“Secret Technique: Dimensional Sound Kill!”
This was the most powerful area attack spell Xu Fan could currently unleash.
