Chapter 12: New Neighbors
"I’m so excited!"
Xu Fan looked at the four bottles of fasting pills on the table. He had prepared ten sets of materials, but his alchemy furnace had exploded four times and lightly burned twice, wasting the spiritual herbs but not destroying the furnace.
Xu Fan gazed at the cracks on the alchemy furnace, feeling a bit pained.
“If I’m lucky, the furnace can still explode six more times. I need to be careful. I must gather enough money to buy a new alchemy furnace before this one fails.”
“Otherwise, I’ll have to wait another year.”
Xu Fan sighed as he looked at the furnace.
At that moment, he heard the sound of a wood-cutting spell coming from the nearby house.
Xu Fan stepped outside to take a look.
“Hmm, a new disciple actually chose this remote hill. I came here to be low-key, but what’s their reason?”
As Xu Fan pondered whether to visit, a pleasant bell-like sound rang out from the protective barrier.
“Is that Wang Yulun, that little rascal? It’s been almost a month, and I haven’t seen my Big Brother!”
Saying this, Xu Fan opened a small door in the barrier.
As soon as he opened it, a voice as sweet as silver bells called out,
"Hubby, I’m here!"
Xu Fan saw a beautiful figure leap directly into his arms.
“Weiyun, what are you doing here?” Xu Fan instantly felt that his peaceful days were coming to an end.
“Hubby, I advanced to the Qi Refinement Fourth Layer just to see you!”
Zhang Weiyun exclaimed, spinning like a flower butterfly in front of Xu Fan.
“………….”
Are you showing off your cultivation? Although your floral dress is lovely.
After spinning around, Zhang Weiyun hugged Xu Fan tightly again.
“Hubby, I’m amazing, right?”
“One elder even said I have a spirit body and wanted to take me into the inner sect, but I declined.”
Xu Fan, tightly embraced by a girl, had to admit that he, a seasoned homebody from two lives, felt his cheeks flush.
“Haha, Weiyun, that’s impressive!”
“Did you really choose the hill next door?” Xu Fan asked.
“Yeah! I had to ask many people to find out you were here.”
Zhang Weiyun’s joyful demeanor made Xu Fan reluctant to reject her.
“By the way, my dad said you should bring my betrothal gift to me when you have time.”
“Otherwise, it won’t be proper, that’s what my dad said.” Zhang Weiyun said cheerfully.
“Uncle Zhang really trusts me.”
"Let’s talk about the betrothal gift later. Have you already advanced to the Qi Refinement Fourth Layer and learned some spells?"
"Last time I saw you, you were still at the Qi Refinement Third Layer."
Xu Fan led Zhang Weiyun to a pavilion and asked.
"Yep, I can do it now!"
"Small Spirit Rain Technique, Lightness Technique, Fireball Spell, Wind Control Technique, Water Spirit Shield, Ice Spike Technique, and Palm Thunder."
"I picked them all up right away," Zhang Weiyun said with a proud smile, her eyes narrowing slightly.
"Wow, that’s amazing! You’re even better than me," Xu Fan said, genuinely impressed. He hadn’t realized before just how talented she was.
‘Grr~~~~’
Zhang Weiyun’s stomach growled loudly, reminding her that she needed to eat.
"Hubby, I’m starving," she said, looking at Xu Fan with puppy-dog eyes. After advancing to the mid Qi Refinement stage, she had spent the whole day dealing with paperwork, picking a location, and hiring people to build her future home.
“Just wait a second.”
Xu Fan turned and headed into the kitchen. A short while later, he returned with three home-cooked dishes and a small wooden bucket of spirit rice.
"Ah, spirit rice! Hubby, you’re the best," Zhang Weiyun said, her face lighting up with joy.
At that moment, Xu Fan took a deep breath, a habit he had when he was about to say something serious.
"Weiyun, I’ve always thought of you as my little sister. Back then, I was just joking around."
"Choosing a husband is a big decision for a girl. I don’t think I’m the right person for you," Xu Fan said, his tone sincere.
Zhang Weiyun, who had been eating enthusiastically, suddenly put down her chopsticks and lowered her head. Tears began to trickle down her cheeks.
Her sad, pitiful expression made Xu Fan feel like he’d done something terrible.
"Wah~~ Hubby doesn’t want me anymore~~~~ Boo~~~"
"Boo~~~~ Boo~~~~~~" Zhang Weiyun cried like a little kitten that had been abandoned.
Xu Fan felt a pang of guilt, but he reminded himself that it was better to end things now than to drag it out. Given the circumstances, it probably wouldn’t work out well in the long run.
Half an hour later.
"Boo~~~~" Zhang Weiyun was still crying.
"Uh, Weiyun, maybe we should take a break and eat first?"
"Boo~~~ Boo~~" Zhang Weiyun kept crying, ignoring him.
An hour later.
Xu Fan looked at the still-sobbing Zhang Weiyun with growing despair.
"Weiyun, can we talk about this?" Xu Fan said, feeling helpless.
"Boo~~~ Hubby doesn’t want me anymore." Zhang Weiyun continued to cry, paying no attention to Xu Fan.
Xu Fan felt like his head was about to explode. He couldn’t believe he’d somehow turned into the bad guy in this situation.
Two hours later.
"Boo~~~ Boo~~"
"Weiyun, I didn’t mean to abandon you."
At that moment, Zhang Weiyun looked at Xu Fan with her tear-red eyes.
"Then am I your wife?"
"This~~~"
Xu Fan hadn’t finished speaking yet.
"Boo~~~ Hubby still doesn’t want me."
"Boo~~"
"How about I send the betrothal gift to your father?"
Xu Fan ultimately couldn’t bring himself to say no.
Zhang Weiyun immediately stopped crying.
"Hubby, you must remember what you said," Zhang Weiyun said as she picked up the bowl of spirit rice and continued to eat.
"Hubby, the food is a bit cold."
Xu Fan looked at Zhang Weiyun and instantly felt like he had been played.
"Who taught you that trick?" Xu Fan suddenly asked.
"Of course, it was my mother," Zhang Weiyun replied. As soon as she said it, she realized her mistake.
"No, no. That was my true feelings. I’ve always wanted to be your wife."
Xu Fan smiled at the cute and innocent Zhang Weiyun, then conjured a high-temperature air shield to cover the cold dishes and started heating them up.
"For now, let’s leave it at that."
"After we finish eating, take me to your hill, and I’ll help you manage it," Xu Fan resigned himself to his fate.
"Thank you, Hubby."
"From now on, change how you address me. Just call me Brother Fan," Xu Fan said.
"Okay, Hubby," Zhang Weiyun said with her eyes narrowed again.
After finishing the meal, Xu Fan wanted to pull Zhang Weiyun along with him, only to find that she used her Lightness Technique and Wind Control Technique so smoothly that she kept up with his speed.
In the air, Xu Fan was a bit surprised to see Zhang Weiyun following closely behind him. Her Lightness Technique and Wind Control Technique were close to reaching the intermediate level.
Though Xu Fan could easily master spells, most cultivators at the Qi Refinement peak could only master a few techniques.
"It seems my little wife has a high talent for cultivation," Xu Fan thought to himself.
At this moment, Xu Fan formed a spell seal with one hand, and instantly, he shot toward his destination like an arrow released from a bow.
"Weiyun, if you catch up to Brother Fan, I’ll teach you a new spell. How about that?"
Xu Fan’s voice instantly energized Zhang Weiyun.
"Hubby, you promised!"
A ribbon appeared beside Zhang Weiyun, quickly binding her and greatly increasing her speed as she chased after Xu Fan.
