Chapter 5: Do or Die
"Hehe, missing one sacrifice after twenty days?" Cass laughed mockingly and slowly approached Leo. "There are so many villages nearby; losing one sacrifice is nothing. It can be replaced easily."
He seemed to enjoy the feeling of cornering his prey, staring at Leo’s trembling body while deliberately slowing down his speech. "Also, I have already prepared everything. My magic clone is still at the ceremony, so right now, no one knows I came to your cell, not even Tina."
"The ceremony is in full swing, and all the other sacrifices, except for you, have been taken to the altar for the Joyful Ceremony. Whatever I do to you now, no one will know."
"You will die here, and the cause will be your weak body, drained after the joy, haha." As Cass spoke, he grinned and laughed wildly. "Thinking about it this way, not only do I not have to take responsibility for your death, but that nasty Tina will also be affected, haha."
"Oh, is that so…" Leo chuckled softly, the panic on his face slowly fading away. "So I should thank you."
"Thank me?" Cass raised an eyebrow. "You silly pig, have you been scared silly? I—"
Before he could finish his sentence, he felt a sudden weightlessness and was pulled into the air by several strands of mucus.
"What is this, what is happening!!" Cass struggled desperately, looking down at the ground.
But he saw Tina walk into the cell, kneeling on one knee in front of Leo, and the Mucus wrapping around her body came from underneath Tina’s feet.
"Master, I’m sorry, Master. I didn’t think he would come to kill you. I’m really sorry!" Tina knelt down, heartbroken, checking Leo’s body, "Master, are you hurt?"
"It’s okay, you came just in time." Leo rubbed her head and said to Cass, "I really have to thank you for making all these preparations and picking such a good time."
"Otherwise, I wouldn’t know how to quietly kill you."
"You! Pig! Who are you?!" Cass finally understood and struggled to break free from the Mucus, shouting angrily, "You are not a human sacrifice! No wonder Tina treats you like this, you are a traitor! You are a nonbeliever! You bastard, the God of Joy will not spare you!"
"Enough! How dare you curse my master!" Tina couldn’t hold back anymore. With a sharp cry, the Mucus broke Cass’s limbs, wrapped around his neck, and threw him to the ground.
"I… Tina…" Cass was barely a person anymore, spitting out blood and mumbling, "Tina, I… I did so much for you… why are you treating me like this…"
"Master." But Tina seemed to hear nothing, her attention fully on Leo, her voice filled with tears, "Master, are you hurt? Does anything ache? It’s my fault, I should have killed that disgusting thing yesterday."
Her worried and anxious expression was like a girl who had made a mistake in love.
At this scene, Cass spat out a few more mouthfuls of blood.
"It’s okay." Leo wiped the tears from her eyes, stood up, and walked in front of Cass, "Tina, do you have a way to deal with the body?"
"Yes, master… but…" Tina hurried over, "Let me kill this man, so you won’t get your hands dirty."
"No, that’s not necessary. You just take care of the body later." Leo took a deep breath, pulled the already defenseless Cass to the drain of the cell, took out the dagger, and, fighting the tremor in his body, thrust it into his throat.
The dagger was not sharp; in fact, it was somewhat dull, so he had to stab over and over again.
"Mmm, mmm…" The artery was cut, and blood sprayed out of his neck, splattering into the drain.
Cass’s body convulsed repeatedly, blood bubbles emerging in his mouth, whimpering and groaning, his eyes reflecting Leo’s face, which was anxious yet incredibly determined.
Half a minute later, Cass stopped moving, his eyes wide open, unable to close them in death.
After another minute or two, Leo finally stopped moving the dagger and leaned over the drain, vomiting uncontrollably.
"Ugh… Ugh…" He was about to throw up everything he had just eaten, along with his stomach acid.
The shock of his first killing made it so he couldn’t control his own body at all.
But it was worth it.
The sooner he got used to the way of survival in this world, the greater his chance to escape this place.
He must adapt to killing as quickly as possible.
Luckily, the one who died was not an ordinary person, but just an evil believer who didn’t know how many lives he had taken.
Tina leaned sadly against Leo’s back, hugging him and gently patting his back, "Master, I wish I were stronger, so I could devour all the enemies in this prison, and we could leave."
There was no way around it; Mucus’s ability to absorb was limited, and she could not assimilate just anyone she wanted.
Her absorption and assimilation needed to be gradual; only after assimilating a certain number of humanoid beings would she receive an evolution.
Every time it evolves, it can raise the strength limit of the humanoid creatures it assimilates.
After evolving to a certain level, the slime can split and create a number of copies to assimilate multiple beings at once. These copies can exist at the same time and sense each other’s locations, but they do not share memories. Yet, they are essentially one individual.
Of course, the current Mucus does not have this ability; it can only assimilate two low-level believers at most.
"It’s okay, you’ve done enough. If it weren’t for you,
I would be dead by now." Leo got up from the ground, leaning against the wall, "Alright, let’s clean this place up and leave no traces."
"Yes, Master!" Tina obediently nodded, revealing Mucus’s true form, wrapping and devouring Cass and the traces he left behind little by little until nothing was left.
Leo took off the blood-stained cloth he was wearing and threw it on Mucus, quietly watching this horrifying scene and murmuring:
"Either do it or don’t do it at all."
The faucet was turned on, and the rushing water carried everything that happened tonight down the drain, not knowing where it flowed on this continent.
In the dark, Mucus finished everything and transformed into Tina’s shape.
"Master, I feel like my powers have evolved." Tina hugged Leo and gently nuzzled her head against his chest.
"That’s good… By the way, Tina, you left the festival so suddenly. Is everything alright?"
"Don’t worry, Master. Tina was just a guard at the festival today, and as you instructed, I changed into Mucus in the bathroom, and came through the cracks in the wall. No one will know I left!"
"But now I must go back." Tina lovingly held Leo’s face, "Because…"
