Chapter 30
Chapter 30: What Does Jealousy Mean?
The few Joyful believers who had been promoted from sex slaves, when Reni returned to the sect, she immediately threw them back into prison, restoring their identity as human sacrifices.
That believer, who had a quarrel with Leo while escorting the saintess a few days ago, was beheaded by Reni on the spot.
All of this happened in the blink of an eye. Leo didn’t even have time to give orders, and that believer was sent by Miss Mucus to meet the God of Joy.
No, if it’s beheading, they shouldn’t be able to see the God of Joy.
Reni saw that Leo was quiet and thought he was upset. She used her powers to playfully complain, saying that she couldn’t allow anyone who angered the master to live in this world, and how seeing those people made her feel sick every minute.
This left Leo feeling helpless.
The remaining few, who were once human sacrifices, were not having a good time either.
They had always been right next to the deceased warden, the main accomplices in the warden’s abuse of human sacrifices, with the blood on their hands from at least ten people; they probably had more blood than the believers who had only been around for a few years.
Originally, they relied on the warden’s power and were used to being arrogant. Even when there wasn’t a sacrificial ceremony, they would go and whip and abuse the innocent. Now, they had become human sacrifices again and were thrown by Reni into a prison filled with their greatest enemies.
In just half an hour, they had already been beaten and harmed by everyone’s anger, looking unrecognizable.
Remembering what had just happened, Leo sighed silently, straightened his chest, and met the envious and jealous gazes around him.
This group of joyful believers, influenced by cruel, sinful, and twisted love, had hearts that were deeply twisted and easily filled with jealousy.
Leo, as the only "male pet" of the goddess Reni, was already prepared to be envied by these believers.
"What are you all looking at?" Leo remained calm, but Reni could not stay still. She suddenly stepped forward, her eyes filled with coldness, "You in the third row, your name is Lori, right? I ask you, what are you looking at?"
"Uh? No… warden, I…" The believer named Lori quickly lowered his head, crawling on all fours, "I… I wasn’t looking at anything…"
"Not looking at anything? Ha…" Reni slowly walked towards him, the coldness in her eyes turning into deep crimson, "Why do I feel like you were looking at my Leo with that uncomfortable gaze?"
"No… no…" Lori’s head was lowered even further.
"Oh? Is that so? Ha, you’re lying." Reni chuckled softly, snapped her fingers, and two long whips appeared out of nowhere, tightening around Lori’s neck and pulling him into the air.
The crimson pressure exploded around them, knocking down several other believers, "Do you want to die for looking at my Leo that way?"
Lori gripped the whips with both hands, his face turning blue and purple, his legs twitching, "Ah!! Ah!! Warden, I was wrong, warden, I was wrong… ah… ah…"
"Wrong, hehe, if you’re wrong, just enjoy it slowly." Reni didn’t even look at him.
Lori’s cries grew quieter, while the surrounding believers gathered closer, none dared to plead for her or intervene; every one of them trembled and crawled, too afraid to look at her.
Warden Reni was indeed a moody, fierce, and unpredictable female demon. When she grew tired of playing with her sacrifices, she often took action against a few believers.
Moreover, she was strong and gifted, earning the trust of the church’s higher-ups.
In this branch of the Joyful Church, no one dared to draw her wrath.
One could say that Miss Mucus’s quickness to use her hands matched Reni even more than the real Reni did.
The believers didn’t suspect anything; instead, they cast Leo a different, indescribable look.
It was only now that they realized a man who could make such a female demon dismiss all her favorites and care only for him must possess some extraordinary qualities unknown to anyone else.
"Hehe, oh dear, do you have any comments?" After a moment, Reni disdainfully glanced at the now silent Lori and smiled at the believers, "If you have any opinions, you can speak freely now."
"It’s gone, it’s gone…"
"So, Leo, can you join our Joyful Church?"
"Yes, yes, it must be possible!"
"Mr. Leo is the chosen one, a gift from our Lord to the warden!"
"Anyone who dares to bother Mr. Leo is… is bothering me!"
All the believers quickly bowed down and no longer dared to speak a word of complaint.
No one wanted to be the next Lori.
"Hmm, that’s good to know." Reni nodded expressionlessly, "The grand bishop is arriving soon, and I do not want any rumors from our side. Now, take Lori away; if he can be saved, save him. If he cannot be saved, take him to the altar to let him return to our Lord."
"Y-yes… yes…"
A few believers came up and dragged away Lori, who had hardly any breath left.
Reni said nothing and turned to walk toward the end of the hallway.
Leo followed slowly behind.
When the two of them had completely disappeared, the believers collapsed on the ground, gasping for air.
At that moment, they reached a consensus.
That Leo is definitely someone you should never provoke.
……
"Master, how did I do just now?" In the room, Reni wrapped her arms around Leo’s neck and gazed at him gently.
"…. I have no comment." Leo shrugged and kissed the corner of her mouth lightly.
"Really~ I just can’t stand them looking at Master like that!"
Reni pouted, walking unhappily around the room. She pointed at her head and bit her lip, "Don’t worry, the warden is usually like this too!"
This wronged and aggrieved little woman seemed completely different from the cold-hearted warden just moments ago.
"It’s okay, you can do whatever you want about this… Besides, you have the warden’s memories and know what to do." Leo took off his outer robe, hung it on the coat rack, and slowly sat down in the main seat behind the crystal table, rubbing his forehead.
Before he knew it, he had already gotten used to these "necessary" killings.
"Hmm, as long as Master isn’t angry, it’s all good~" Reni followed him, propping herself up on the table, and with a light jump, her round bottom settled on top, her long legs crossed together, "Just thinking about how those people look at Master makes me feel sick!"
"Hmm, and when the warden was on top of the master before, I felt disgusted, and I just wanted to get rid of her!" Reni hugged her arms, sharing her feelings.
Leo shook his head helplessly, "These two feelings are not the same. You feel disgusted by the believers because of their unkind attitude towards me, but you find the warden disgusting… because of jealousy."
"Jealousy?" Reni tilted her head, her body turning into Mucus, then switching back and forth between the forms of Tina, Ashley, and Lani, "Master, what does jealousy mean? I understand the word, but I don’t really understand this feeling…"
"Hmm, how should I explain this?" This question really stumped Leo. In his past life, he was a lonely person and had never experienced liking someone, so how could he know what jealousy feels like?
"Never mind, I’ll talk about it later." After thinking for a moment, he said to Miss Mucus, "Let me see what new ability I can draw from your current form."
With the experience from the first two lottery draws, Leo now had a deep understanding of his bad luck.
He no longer hoped to draw any rare legendary abilities; he just wished he wouldn’t draw any low-level skills like Basic Swordsmanship or Low-Level Gun Skills.
"Sigh, I hope this time I’m a bit luckier," Leo said to the system, "Lottery!"
The familiar crimson light shone in his mind, and once again, he heard incomprehensible murmurs in his ears. But this time, the murmurs sounded like they were coming from a jar, humming and muffled.
His mind suddenly paused, and in the next moment, he found himself in a void of darkness.
"What… where am I?" Leo blinked and looked around.
In the darkness, only a ghostly blue orb hung in the air, emitting a cold light that allowed Leo to vaguely see the ruins left in this space.
"Oh? Humans?" Suddenly, a deep voice echoed in the darkness.
Leo looked in the direction of the sound, but he only saw the cold blue orb slowly moving towards him.
The orb grew larger in his eyes until Leo could see the details inside it and, thanks to its light, could see life behind the orb—
It was an eyeball, a big eyeball burning with cold flames, and the owner of that eyeball was a head larger than Leo’s body.
A woman’s head.
The pressure from that head made Leo feel as small as a bug.
"Hmm? No, you are not a human; you are… that great one’s…" The owner of the eyeball frowned.
Leo’s mind slipped back into the darkness.
[You have faced the echo of a deity; your Spiritual Vision has gained further strength. Your Spiritual Vision attribute +1, now at 15 points.]
[You have reached a milestone: you faced the echo of the deity, and you gain a point to improve a skill below legendary rank.]
"Huff…" When Leo opened his eyes again, he clutched his shirt at his chest, trembling all over.
"What’s wrong, Master?" Reni rubbed his temples, helping to soothe his nerves.
"N-no… it’s nothing… a… a deity, they really exist in this world…" Leo gasped for breath, pressing his fingers to his forehead, still shaken by the encounter with the deity.
In that moment, he couldn’t even blink, unable to perform even the simplest of thoughts.
That moment felt like only a second, yet it seemed to stretch on for decades.
"A deity?" Reni paused in surprise, "Master, did you… see a deity?"
