Chapter 362: Good People Don’t Live Long
After a while, Luo Yan found an underground mall.
At the entrance, Luo Yan saw a pattern.
It was a blood-red claw, looking bloody with fur on it, probably painted with blood from some animal.
Doing this is not very smart, it might attract a Giant Beast Parasite. People who dare to do this are either not very smart or a bit crazy, or they are very confident in their abilities.
Luo Yan didn’t know which kind of person owned this underground market, he just wanted to get some supplies and leave after spending a night.
He was stopped at the entrance of the market, but after handing over two pills for a cold as a ticket, Luo Yan was allowed to enter the underground market.
The underground market had been renovated, and it seemed to be home to over a hundred people.
The empty market was filled with many tents of different sizes and colors, scattered haphazardly around the outskirts.
The market was bustling with activity.
Shouting, cursing, and selling could be heard all around.
From some tents with ambiguous colors, the most primal sounds could be heard.
Luo Yan didn’t rush into the market, he paused at the entrance to look at the map on the wall.
The map shows that this underground mall has three levels – two levels are for shopping, and the bottom level is for parking.
The first level welcomes visitors, while a big red X marks the second and third levels, indicating that those areas are off-limits to visitors.
Luo Yan had no plans to visit the owner of the underground mall, so he pulled his hat down and quietly made his way inside.
On the first level of the underground mall, there are many small stalls selling a variety of items.
There is even a tent specifically for forbidden transactions, where young girls can be heard crying from time to time. After the “Beast Calamity,” the surface world’s order had already collapsed.
The darkness of human nature is greatly magnified, but in the midst of suffering, there are also seeds of light growing stubbornly.
As he wandered around, Luo Yan gained some information through conversations with other survivors.
This underground mall belongs to the ‘Blood Claw’ organization, led by a leader with a rather common name: Gao Fugui.
However, this Gao Fugui and his followers possess more than ten firearms and some grenades.
This little strength is looked down upon by any underground organization in the underground city.
But on the surface, in the survivor settlements, they are like gods, able to control the lives of many people.
Among those survivors, Luo Yan heard most frequently that Gao Fugui has a hobby of liking girls aged around fourteen or fifteen.
So, looking around the entire first floor of the shopping mall, it’s rare to see girls of that age.
Because they are either in the underground parking lot or simply too afraid to step into the mall.
After a while, Luo Yan finally found a tent selling drinking water.
After losing a box of cold medicine, he filled a canteen and two empty bottles with water.
Next, Luo Yan found a quiet spot in a corner of the mall to sit down, planning to stay overnight here and leave tomorrow.
Shortly after sitting down, the light dimmed in front of him, and when he looked up, he saw two men looking at him with wicked smiles.
“Kid, I don’t want to make things difficult for you.”
“Give me the water and medicine you have, and I promise no one will disturb you tonight.”
“Otherwise, I will stab it into your heart and take what I want from your corpse.”
One of the men gestured with a military knife in his hand.
Luo Yan’s hand in his cloak touched the handle of the ‘Ring Dragon’ sword, but before he could draw it, a strong voice shouted.
“Yan Hai, what are you doing!”
Luo Yan looked up from his hood and saw the man called Yan Hai and his companion parting ways to reveal two figures behind them.
The two figures were a strong middle-aged man and another person wearing a cloak like Luo Yan, hiding behind the middle-aged man, gender and age unknown.
Yan Hai frowned and said, “Yang Zheng, this is none of your business. I suggest you not interfere.”
A man named Yang Zheng grunted, “Life is tough for everyone nowadays. It’s one thing not to help, but to kick others when they’re down, I just can’t stand by and watch.”
“You either leave or I’ll play with you.”
Yan Hai spat on the ground, “You, Mr. Yang, what makes you so proud as a retired soldier!”
He glared fiercely at Luo Yan and whispered, “Let’s go.”
Passing by Yang Zheng and another person, Yan Hai glanced at the cloaked figure with a hint of interest in his eyes.
After they left, the man called Yang Zheng raised his voice, “Hey, buddy, everything okay?”
“Don’t stay alone, it’s easy to get bullied when you’re on your own.”
After saying that, he tugged on the person next to him and turned to leave.
But at that moment, the cloaked figure turned back to look at Luo Yan.
They kept running back, then a delicate little hand reached out from the cloak and placed a simple packaged bread on the ground.
Luo Yan saw a pretty face in the cloak, with a messy short haircut that looked like a boy’s, but still could tell it was a fourteen or fifteen-year-old girl.
The two people, not sure if they were father and daughter or something else, walked away.
Looking at the bread on the ground, Luo Yan’s hand loosened from the hilt of the ‘Ring Dragon’ sword.
He picked up the bread, feeling surprised.
After three years on the surface, busybodies like Yang Zheng were almost nowhere to be seen.
After all, people like that don’t live long.
In troubled times, good people don’t live long.
Luo Yan tore off the outer packaging, bit into the slightly hard bread, and ate it bite by bite.
The moonlight shone on the ground when the giant beast roared softly.
In the Blood Claw camp, Luo Yan opened his eyes, his red eyes reflecting the firelight and silhouettes of people.
Yan Hai has returned again.
And this time, he brought three or four people with him.
“Hey, awake?”
“Kid, if you want to survive, quickly hand over your belongings.”
“No one is here to protect you now.”
“And that Yang guy probably can’t protect himself either. Hey, why doesn’t he ever buy things for women?”
“So he has a daughter, hiding it quite well. If we hadn’t run into her today, I wouldn’t have known.”
Luo Yan’s eyes flickered slightly as he spoke his first words upon arriving at Blood Claw Camp, “What happened to Yang Zheng?”
Yan Hai crouched down, unabashedly rummaging through Luo Yan’s things, saying, “None of your business,” as he searched.
Clang!
A cold light burst forth from the cloak.
Yan Hai’s arm reaching towards Luo Yan flew outwards.
The man hesitated for a moment, then started screaming in pain.
Suddenly, his shoulder felt a weight.
A sharp, shiny long knife pressed against the major artery in his neck.
Yan Hai was speechless in that moment.
Luo Yan said word by word, “What happened to Yang Zheng?”
Yan Hai shivered and couldn’t hide it, “Elder Gao really likes those pretty girls. I told Zhou Ming, the overseer of Blood Claw Camp, about Yang Zheng’s daughter.”
“The overseer Zhou Ming has sent a group of people to Yang Zheng’s house to bring his daughter here.”
Luo Yan said, “Oh,” as he drew ‘Ring Dragon’ across Yan Hai’s neck, then pushed the man holding his neck away.
Luo Yan stood up, his shadow stretching continuously in the firelight, turning into a dark figure.
He glanced at the bread wrapper on the floor, raised his dagger, and pointed at another man, saying, “Take me to Yang Zheng’s house.”
