Chapter 320: Encounter
Meng Fanxi gasped in shock, and without hesitation, he grabbed his gun and started walking.
He randomly chose a direction, only wanting to escape from the scene.
To his surprise, after walking a few steps, he found another room he passed by with its door open. Inside, there were faint rustling sounds. When he shone his tactical light, he saw a thin old lady with her head down, standing in the dark living room.
Meng Fanxi swiftly moved through room after room.
Each room was the same living room.
Each room had that thin old lady with white hair.
The difference was that the positions of the old ladies in those rooms were changing.
When Meng Fanxi passed by another room, a skinny hand like a chicken claw suddenly reached out from the iron gate of the room and grabbed him!
Meng Fanxi screamed and shone his tactical light, only to see a thin and decaying body crouching behind the iron gate. A foul stench emanated from the gate, hitting Meng Fanxi’s face with a nauseating breath.
By the light, Meng Fanxi clearly saw the old woman’s face with large dark patches of decay, the dry, bark-like face rotting in many places, some areas abnormally swollen, the skin transparent from the pus inside, and even visible capillaries!
“Hiss!”
Meng Fanxi gasped in cold air. At that moment, the old woman’s eyelids twitched, and suddenly a pair of white eyeballs looked at the young man outside the door. The withered, skinny hand with a foul smell reached for Meng Fanxi’s neck.
Meng Fanxi didn’t want those shiny black nails to grab him. Immediately, he aimed his sniper rifle at the old woman’s arm and bang! A shot shattered that branch-like hand.
He then turned the gun towards the old woman’s face and kept firing.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Shot after shot.
The old woman’s head kept exploding.
Scalp, white hair, flesh, bones, eyeballs…
After a few shots, the old woman’s head completely disappeared.
Meng Fanxi gasped and stepped back, thinking he had dealt with the eerie old woman, but then he heard a sound of metal scraping.
Then he saw iron gates of room after room swing open, followed by decaying old women coming out from the pitch-black rooms.
These old women’s bodies were like rusty machines; when they moved, their bones made a ‘click-clack’ sound.
The constant strange noises attacked Meng Fanxi’s heart like a tsunami.
The young man’s eyes were bloodshot, he couldn’t stay calm anymore, raising his sniper rifle and firing at each old woman.
“Don’t come any closer!”
“Don’t come here!”

“Don’t come here!”
“Go away!”
Bang!
Voices, gunshots.
Suddenly outside.
Ma Shuo in the sleeping bag shivered and woke up.
He quickly grabbed a long knife next to him, rushed out of the tent, only to find the campsite dim and foggy, with no sign of the night guards or mechas.
At that moment, gunshots rang out from one of the tents, followed by flashes of fire.
“What’s going on?”
Team member Little Rong came over and whispered, “Isn’t that Fanzhi’s tent?”
Without hesitation, he started walking towards it.
But Ma Shuo held him back, saying, “Don’t go there.”
He then shouted, “Xizai, can you hear me?”
“Come out quickly.”
Just then, a loud scream came from the tent, followed by Meng Fanxi falling out of it.
He was holding a sniper rifle, struggling as he crawled away, then turning around and shooting continuously towards the tent.
“Stay back!”
“Don’t come any closer!”
The tent was quickly riddled with bullets, collapsing in an instant and turning into scattered fragments in the mist.
“What’s wrong with Little Meng?”
Little Rong, with a curvaceous figure and wide eyes, looked at Ma Shuo.
“Are you still half asleep?” Ma Shuo said uncertainly, then gestured, “Don’t worry about it, let’s subdue him first.”
“At this rate, we probably won’t be able to wake him up.”
He carefully moved closer to Meng Fanxi as he spoke.
Meng Fanxi suddenly turned around with his sniper rifle aimed at Ma Shuo, as if sensing something.
Ma Shuo quickly rolled to the side.
Bang!
The sound of a gunshot rang in their ears.
He could feel the heat of the bullet as it whizzed past, his cheeks stinging slightly.
Meng Fanxi’s eyes widened in fear as he shouted, “Don’t come any closer!”
With no options left, Ma Shuo was suddenly startled by a muffled noise behind him in the darkness.
Boom!
Soon, a fire lit up, breaking through the mist with a roar as it passed over the heads of the crowd.
The flames illuminated the campground, burning away the mist, and slowly restored Meng Fanxi’s eyesight.
First, his eyeballs rolled back, then his pupils, which had shrunken to the size of green peas, slowly dilated.
Meng Fanxi, still holding his gun up, waited until his vision cleared before tentatively calling out, “Captain, is that you?”
Upon hearing this, Ma Shuo let out a long breath and sat down, “You almost scared me to death, kid.”
Only then did he turn around to see two flames rising in the dark night, growing larger.
After a moment, Ma Shuo could make out that they were two blazing swords.
They were held by a bright red mecha, which walked closer, stopped, and thrust the swords into the ground.
Boom.
The flames rose higher.
A moment later.
A blazing bonfire rose in the camp, and Little Rong called up the remaining Mecha Master in the team.
Ma Shuo checked the camp and found that everyone on night duty, including Deputy Captain Lu Shihan, and all mechas were missing.
Then he looked at the sturdy man by the fire, drinking and eating.
Guangling Legion, senior colonel Liang Jian!
Ma Shuo walked over and said, “Senior Colonel Liang Jian, are you okay?”
Liang Jian raised his head, eyes bloodshot, and a heavy tiredness hung between his brows.
“Not good, not good at all.”
After Liang Jian finished speaking, he took a big sip of alcohol and then threw the water bottle back to Ma Shuo.
He chuckled.
“Thanks to this alcohol of yours, I can probably make it through the night.”
Ma Shuo took the water bottle back and realized that all his liquor had been drunk by Liang Jian, which made him feel a little heartbroken.
Then he said,
“What happened to you guys? Where are the other team members?”
Liang Jian pointed with his chin towards the bewildered Meng Fanxi and said, “The situation is similar to yours, they got separated.”
“How did this happen?”
Ma Shuo frowned, “Captain Lv left without a word, which is unlike him.”
“Some of them got hallucinations,” Liang Jian reached out to the fire, “Just now, your teammate also got a hallucination. Ask him what he saw.”
Little Rong walked over and said, “I asked Little Meng, and he said he saw the scariest thing from his childhood.”
“Exactly.”
Liang Jian looked at the mist gathering around them and said, “This darn mist can make us have hallucinations, seeing our worst fears.”
“Both my teammate and I had hallucinations. Some got lost, and some even started fighting each other.”
“I accidentally discovered that the fire can lessen the effects, helping us stay sane.”
“However, if my mind relaxes even for a moment, I’ll fall into hallucinations.”
“That’s why I dare not sleep. Before meeting you, I didn’t dare to leave the mecha or rest.”
“You also better not sleep. Otherwise, you might fall into hallucinations in your dreams.”
“This is very dangerous!”
