Chapter 22: Qiao Mu Will Not Have a Good Ending!
On the mountains, Qiao Mu crouched behind a large rock, his heart pounding and blood surging through his veins.
Killing Officer Chu had brought him a sense of revenge, but what Qiao Mu cared about more was something else entirely.
“I am incredibly strong!” Qiao Mu gave himself a thumbs up.
From a distance, he had killed Military Officer Chu with just a single strike.
Merely an hour before, Qiao Mu had been a scout for Military Officer Chu, taking orders from him to explore and eliminate enemies. Now, he had managed to counterattack with just one decisive blow.
Qiao Mu had finally mastered the proper method to achieve “immortality” and had tasted the sweetness of high-quality death.
“How should I die next in an even more impressive way? This time, I want to make a grand spectacle, so that I can die magnificently and with style!”
Qiao Mu remained hidden behind the rock, his heart racing. His face flushed as he excitedly imagined his own dramatic demise.
After the killing of Military Officer Chu, the officials and soldiers would naturally begin searching the mountains to capture the assassin.
Considering this, Qiao Mu raised his right hand and examined it.
His entire arm was filled with a weak, sour sensation, blood vessels having burst and blood continuing to seep out.
This time, Qiao Mu hadn’t continuously stimulated the Heavenly Demon Disintegration Method, but had only experienced a momentary outbreak. While he hadn’t died immediately, the consequences were significant. His right arm was now practically useless.
With his half-damaged arm, he couldn’t possibly escape the pursuit of the soldiers. This plot seemed very reasonable to him.
Now, Qiao Mu had to consider how to die beautifully.
“What impressive lines should I deliver before my death?” Qiao Mu fell into deep contemplation.
He had always taken his death performances very seriously.
Previously, when Qiao Mu had fought alone in the valley against a thousand men… Old Huang and the others behind him only knew that Qiao Mu had died heroically, leaving an indelible impression in their hearts.
Little did they know that this master performer had rehearsed his inner monologue five times before charging into battle.
While Qiao Mu was contemplating his own death, he heard a familiar voice shouting from below the valley.
“Bandits are coming!”
“Bandits are coming!”
The soldiers in Yan City weren’t battle-hardened. When their leader was suddenly assassinated, chaos erupted.
Before long, these soldiers began to flee, running toward Yan City instead of searching the mountains as Qiao Mu had anticipated.
“They ran away? Why did they all flee? How am I supposed to die now?” Qiao Mu was bewildered.
“I’ve already rehearsed the scenes in my mind twice, I’ve even practiced my lines. And now you all run away?”
He had originally planned to boldly assassinate Military Officer Chu, then bravely sacrifice himself as Qiao Mu’s older brother amidst the soldiers’ encirclement. It would have been a glorious event. But the soldiers had been frightened away?
“What should I do next? Chase after them? This script doesn’t seem logical anymore, considering I’ve already achieved my revenge. I doubt it will earn me a high score.”
Qiao Mu pondered deeply and ultimately had no choice but to remain hidden behind the rock, watching the soldiers gradually disappear into the distance.
This wasn’t how it was supposed to happen! The plot was going in the wrong direction!
Qiao Mu carefully analyzed why he hadn’t succeeded in dying this time. The main reason must have been because someone had shouted that mountain bandits were coming, and the soldiers had probably assumed it was another ambush, prompting their withdrawal.
“Wait, was that Old Huang calling?”
This realization made Qiao Mu instantly angry.
You, Old Huang, I saved your life out of kindness, blocked knives and spears for you, and this is how you repay me?!
What’s worse, when Old Huang shouted like this, the blame for killing Military Officer Chu wouldn’t fall on Qiao Mu anymore, but on the bandit leader.
How could Qiao Mu stack his buffs and accumulate chips this way?
“Damn it, let me show off and die properly!”
Just as Qiao Mu was raging helplessly, he heard a flurry of footsteps from all directions.
When he turned around, Qiao Mu was dumbfounded.
The bandits had appeared in dense formation, completely surrounding him.
“Did those bandits really come? This isn’t a lie, is it?”
“And they surrounded us so quickly. Could it be that the bandits hadn’t completely retreated but had actually set up an ambush?”
Considering this, Qiao Mu began to feel some admiration for these bandits.
Then his resolve strengthened.
His fist became powerful.
Qiao Mu stood up, clenched his fists before him, and assumed the stance of the Long Life Fist. However, his right hand trembled slightly as blood continued to seep from his arm.
“Let me tell you, the Qiao family has never been cowards!” Qiao Mu faced the bandits with a stern expression, his gaze burning like a torch.
“Even with just my bare hands and one arm half-crippled, I will never submit to you bandits!”
Qiao Mu instantly immersed himself in the role.
Since tasting the sweetness of high-quality death, he had fallen into the abyss of showing off.
Even in death, he wanted to make a spectacle! It would be even better to die because of showing off!
In truth, what he meant was: I’m half-disabled now, easy to kill. Hurry up, everyone, come and take my head!
But as Qiao Mu stood up and approached them with clenched fists, the bandits surrounding him finally recognized his appearance clearly.
“Isn’t this the soldier who charged alone with a spear?”
“Isn’t he already dead? I saw it with my own eyes! I even shot an arrow at him!”
“That killer god is still alive?”
“He had wounds all over his body, was even pierced through, but how did the wounds vanish?”
“It’s impossible!”
The bandits were first shocked, then frightened, and finally terrified. They all retreated three steps, forming a wider circle.
Coming back to life after death? The crucial point was that they had seen the dead bodies!
Realizing superstitions weren’t helping, Qiao Mu felt it necessary to explain properly, to calm these bandits and convince them to kill him.
“Don’t worry, I’m already dead. Now I am my older brother Qiao Lin…” Qiao Mu hesitated momentarily before changing his words:
“Yan City centurion Qiao Mu is my little brother, and he died tragically by your hands. I only regret that I arrived too late and couldn’t save my… save my own younger brother!”
The bandits remained in chaos until someone carefully observed Qiao Mu’s mature, 28-year-old face.
“It’s definitely not the same person, he’s obviously several years older.”
“I just saw him secretly attacking and using a spear to assassinate the leader of the soldiers, Military Officer Chu from Yan City!”
“He’s not a soldier, but he killed their leader? So is he an enemy or a friend?”
The bandits engaged in chaotic discussion.
However, during their discussion, their glances toward Qiao Mu remained filled with fear and dread.
The impression left by Qiao Mu, who had fought bravely until death, had been too profound!
And Qiao Lin, standing before them, was evidently an even more formidable warrior than Qiao Mu had been.
So, what should they do now?
“Why don’t we ask the leader for his opinion?” someone suggested, quickly receiving agreement from many bandits.
Obviously, their leader commanded great respect.
“Is it Bandit King Wang Songhe?” Qiao Mu also grew interested.
He only sought an honorable death.
From his recent encounters with the bandits, it was clear that their leader, Wang Songhe, was no ordinary person.
By quickly discovering his attempt to assassinate Military Officer Chu and surrounding him, it was evident that the bandits hadn’t dispersed in panic but had strategically retreated.
If Military Officer Chu had acted recklessly, he might have truly met a tragic end.
Qiao Mu enjoyed interacting with strong individuals the most, as they were often more dangerous and offered greater opportunities for achievement.
