Chapter 10: Speak When You Have Something to Say, Act Sincerely When There Is Something to Be Done
“Young hero, would you accept my apology?” Guo Yan’s eyes burned like torches.
The swordsman in the green robe opened his mouth, but no words came out.
City Lord Guo Yan didn’t say anything either. He merely waved his hand, and the crowd of soldiers surrounding the long street dispersed. Two soldiers led a beautiful woman forward.
“Jiang Lang…” The beautiful woman lowered her head, feeling ashamed and embarrassed. She had never expected things to escalate to this extent.
Evidently, the beautiful lady had not been able to escape far and was discovered by the soldiers under the city lord’s command, then brought back again.
This city, Yan City, belonged to City Lord Guo Yan.
Even if they were set free to run, it would be difficult for them to escape beyond the city walls.
“It’s all just a misunderstanding,” Guo Yan said solemnly.
“Fortunately, the young couple didn’t suffer serious injuries.”
“As a gesture of apology, I will offer a hundred silver coins as compensation. Can you forgive my son’s rudeness?” Guo Yan asked sincerely.
The couple in green robes glanced at each other, seeing helplessness in each other’s eyes.
This City Lord Guo Yan behaved very differently from his son.
He not only demonstrated his strength but also attempted to build connections.
And outwardly, Guo Yan, as the lord of the city, was willing to apologize to them, which already preserved their dignity.
This was almost the best outcome they could expect.
So naturally, they could only nod.
“Thank you, Lord Guo. Actually, when my wife and I first entered Yan City, we were somewhat impulsive…” the swordsman in the green robe said.
Seeing the swordsman finally bow his head, the surrounding people breathed a collective sigh of relief.
It seemed this matter would conclude with apologies from both sides.
“To encounter such a situation, being targeted by the City Lord’s son—not losing our lives or dignity is already fortunate enough.”
“We thought both of them would perish here, but the outcome proved better than expected.”
“That’s good, letting the matter settle peacefully, avoiding unnecessary trouble.”
The tense atmosphere gradually eased.
Even City Lord Guo Yan, who had maintained a serious expression throughout, showed signs of relaxation. He immediately turned to look at Qiao Mu.
As a city lord, he had seen many young people like Qiao Mu who were impulsive and inexperienced.
Therefore, after their brief confrontation, Guo Yan lowered his stance and sincerely apologized, preventing any possible anger from Qiao Mu. He then directed attention to the couple in green robes.
At this moment, the meaning in his eyes was clear.
Both he and the couple had reached a resolution and apologized to each other. So what about you, a mere bystander?
Was it still necessary to keep holding onto his son?
“City Lord, I have only one question,” Qiao Mu, who had been quietly observing without interrupting, softly asked:
“May I ask, can a broken mirror be pieced together again?”
The words resonated loudly along the street.
The green-clothed swordsman’s expression slowly changed from gentle to confused, and he couldn’t help but turn to look at the beautiful woman beside him.
In his mind, he recalled the scene of their earlier departure.
He understood in his heart that it was impossible for them to pretend nothing had happened.
Can a broken mirror be pieced together again?
Under this question, the false harmony created by the city lord moments ago instantly shattered.
The recent reconciliation was merely an apology between City Lord Guo Yan and the other party.
For these weaker individuals, it was already the best possible outcome.
Being able to resolve the conflict peacefully was already fortunate.
However, Qiao Mu tore away this facade and exposed the bloody reality.
Did he truly want to reconcile and pretend nothing happened deep in his heart?
Of course not. He simply couldn’t say it—dared not say it.
“Guo Yan!” Qiao Mu gripped Childe Guo’s neck and shouted:
“Do you think that as a city lord, mere compensation and apologies will make everything disappear? Is this just your one-sided reconciliation?”
The swordsman in green clothes glared and instinctively clenched his fist.
Even as the victim had no choice but to reluctantly agree, Qiao Mu, an uninvolved bystander, dared to directly challenge the lord and speak their unvoiced thoughts?
The swordsman secretly clenched his fists, feeling somewhat ashamed: This young hero was truly brave and righteous. He was clearly still just a beginner martial artist in training, not as strong as himself.
Qiao Mu continued, “The fact that the swordsman couple escaped unharmed today, with neither side suffering casualties or being sent as slaves to the mansion, is entirely due to my interference as a meddlesome bystander!”
“But what about before this? Your son has long had a reputation for recklessness, ordering guards to whip people and abduct others in the street. These actions are not first-time offenses.”
Qiao Mu pointed to the bloodstains on the cobblestone street.
When Childe Guo paraded through the streets, his attendants always used whips to clear the way. Anyone who approached, regardless of age or gender, would receive a lashing. The bloodstains remained visible today.
The whippings from the martial artist attendants were not simple skin-breaking blows. They had the power to shatter bones and send people flying.
The weakest could even be struck dead on the spot.
“Guo Yan, have you ever reconciled with or inquired about the countless sufferings—including physical harm and destruction of homes—endured by the people because of you and your son?” Qiao Mu demanded sternly.
His words echoed through the street, causing the people to grow restless. Their eyes fixed on Qiao Mu.
Many of them still bore fresh whip marks from Childe Guo’s servants.
A bystander spoke out righteously, expressing what they dared not say. How could their hearts not be moved?
No one is born knowing how to endure mistreatment; they are simply powerless to resist.
City Lord Guo Yan remained silent for a long time.
This time, Qiao Mu was asking him to apologize to all the people his son had bullied over the years?
But how was that possible?
Even if he were willing, he couldn’t possibly account for how many people his son had wronged.
After a long pause, he finally spoke:
“Young friend, you asked me to apologize just now and I did. So why don’t you simply tell me how I can free my son?”
Qiao Mu instantly became excited upon hearing this.
If you had asked me earlier, I wouldn’t have had to go through so much trouble with you.
“If you want me to let him go, it’s very simple,” Qiao Mu said firmly:
“Unless I die!”
All he asked for was just a single word: death!
The power of immortality gave Qiao Mu the courage to face life and death.
Speak if you have something to say, act if there’s something to do—no need to weigh pros and cons, no concern for gains or losses, and no worry about offending the powerful.
He wasn’t just showing off his eloquence for a moment.
Big talk wouldn’t save people; it could only give a moment’s satisfaction to the victims waiting for the sword-wielding hero in blue.
He scolded the lord of the city, but it changed nothing.
Actions speak louder than words; a strong fist is more powerful than reasoning.
As long as the Lord kills him in public, Qiao Mu will be able to transform into a powerful hero and personally seek revenge by crushing their evil plans!
