Chapter 58: 6 (Liu)
“Sit.”
The homeless man led Mi Xiaoliu to another gathering place for vagrants, though this area was clearly more upscale than the last. Some even lived in abandoned RVs.
Of course, there was still plenty of trash. Being homeless, hygiene wasn’t exactly a top priority. In fact, many sought out garbage-filled places on purpose—who knew when one might stumble upon something valuable?
The place the homeless man chose looked like an unclaimed wooden shack. The walls were cracked and drafty, the furniture shattered and unusable, dust blanketed every surface, and cobwebs filled the corners—everything about it screamed no one lived here, not even for a day.
“Hey, new guy? You know the rules?” Another homeless man approached from outside, clearly unfamiliar with this newcomer.
“Yep. Something wrong?” The man responded with a gentle smile reminiscent of Yujiro Hanma.
“N-Nothing, just saying hi.” The other homeless man quickly backed off.
“Master, be careful! That face of his—if he were in an anime, he’d at least be a Tier 1 mastermind villain,” warned Sasha.
“Mhm.”
“Sit wherever. Pretend it’s your own place.”
With that, the man plopped down in an empty spot, pulled a bottle of baijiu from his waist, and began to chug. The alcohol flushed his dirt-smeared, grim-looking face with a tinge of red.
Mi Xiaoliu quietly hugged her knees and crouched in a corner. “I want to go home.”
“Don’t be in such a hurry. Let an old man say his piece.”
He smacked his lips and tried to put on a kindly smile.
“Name’s Wang San. Doesn’t matter if you forget—it’s not like I’m anyone important. But you, little girl, you are something else. No one ever told you to stay away from people from Easter?”
He walked over and flicked Mi Xiaoliu’s forehead with a thick finger. Even through her hoodie, the “thunk” was loud and clear.
Mi Xiaoliu clutched her head, got up, and turned to leave.
“Don’t go, don’t go! I won’t flick you again,” Wang San quickly pulled her back.
“I know who you are.”
She paused, silently staring at him.
“Kiddo, judging by your look, I’d say you’ve lost your memory again, huh? Maybe that’s for the best—nothing worth remembering anyway.” He took another swig of alcohol.
“You joined Night Hawk, didn’t you? Don’t bother denying it. My connections are reliable enough…”
“That’s not a good place. Trust this old man—those waters run deep, and you can’t swim that far.”
“Who was she?” Mi Xiaoliu asked.
“That poison-laced chick?” Wang San narrowed his eyes and thought for two seconds.
“One of Easter’s enforcers. Current Third Fractal. Don’t look at me—I’m not about to explain what those titles mean. Just know this, that woman’s most likely after you. If you ever run into her—or anyone from Easter—run as far as you can.”
He stared at her hoodie for a long moment.
“Keeping your face hidden is good. Keep it that way.”
“Master, he’s probably telling the truth,” Sasha whispered with a hint of fear. “Easter’s an organization that conducts illegal human experimentation. Master, you were one of their test subjects…”
“Mhm.”
Wang San hesitated, then placed a wide, calloused hand on Mi Xiaoliu’s head, giving it a gentle rub through the hoodie.
“Alright, kiddo, you can go now. We’ll be seeing each other again. You’ll probably mess up a lot in the future, but don’t be discouraged. Everyone stumbles along the way.”
He waved at her, apparently satisfied after sharing his unsolicited advice. He didn’t bother explaining what Easter was. It seemed like he’d only brought her here just to lecture her.
Then he let out a mocking chuckle.
“With your boss’s personality, he probably won’t tell you any of this stuff. Go home and take a good shower—you might’ve gotten some of that woman’s poison on you. Don’t go through that area anymore. Stick to crowded places… actually, never mind. Forget I said anything.”
With that, he grabbed her by the collar like a kitten and tossed her out.
After hesitating for a moment, he came back out, rubbing his temples like he’d just given up on life. “Don’t go wandering around these days unless you really have to.”
Thus he repeated the same warning.
New recurring NPC unlocked: Extremely long-winded.
A strange guy.
“I knew him?” Mi Xiaoliu asked, referring to the time before her memory loss.
“Nope. Doesn’t look like he was one of your acquaintances,” Sasha replied. “Actually, Master, you didn’t really know many people before. You spent half your life in just one place.”
“What place?”
“Sasha doesn’t know~”
“…”
“Master, let’s skip today’s gacha draw, okay? Pretty please?”
“…Okay.” Grudgingly.
From there, everything went smoothly. She encountered no more incidents on the way home. She called Mingxue:
“My Biological Dad and Brother-in-Law’s ending.”
Her abrupt phrasing left Lu Mingxue confused for a moment before realizing what she meant.
“She wants to know the ending? It’s not bad. Basically, Li Tiedan finds out that Tian Erniu’s baby was actually stolen from Da Piaoliang’s womb…”
Lu Mingxue gave her a broad summary of the drama’s conclusion, skipping over anything too inappropriate for kids. She hadn’t forgotten Mi Xiaoliu was only thirteen. As a result, about 80% of the plot got cut.
When she finished, Mi Xiaoliu, who had remained silent the whole time, finally asked:
“…What does ‘pregnant’ mean?”
Lu Mingxue: “…”
Sis, do you really not know how you were born? With that cute but clueless look of yours, what if some guy tricks you into getting pregnant someday? You’re thirteen already—definitely old enough to start learning about this stuff.
“Forget it, you…” She drew out the word you, clearly hesitating. “Next time, hand her the phone after connecting the call. I’ll talk to her myself…”
“Okay.” Mi Xiaoliu didn’t ask why she didn’t just call directly in the first place.
The call ended.
Mi Xiaoliu took out another phone.
A flood of messages. All from Boss Wei Shi.
: “Didn’t I tell you not to wander off? What’s your deal? Rebellious phase?”
Multitool: “If you ever get captured, just off yourself. Don’t drag the whole organization down. We’re not wasting our time cleaning up after you.”
Then came a barrage of insults, like a wall of spam. Just cursing, though—not quite verbal abuse.
All messages were sent while she was still with Beibei.
Mi Xiaoliu was upset.
She wanted to send a reaction to show she’d seen them.
“Master, if you send anything now, he’ll just yell at you harder,” Sasha cautioned, suggesting she not reply.
But Mi Xiaoliu misunderstood.
She thought about what she could send besides a ‘like.’
She had just learned something new from Mingxue.
So she typed—
Princess: 6 (Liu)
Sixty seconds of voice message came back from Multitool.
Mi Xiaoliu didn’t dare listen.
