Chapter 46: Princess Carry
“Poke, poke.”
“No response. Just a corpse,” Sasha narrated like a voiceover.
As if. She was just asleep—curled over the table just like Heli had been that morning, unknowingly drifting off.
Who knew why beautiful women all liked sleeping slumped over tables? Why their shoulder straps always managed to slip down their arms when they did—drawing the eye to patches of snow-white skin better left unseen.
One hand rested on her phone. She wore a pale yellow short skirt that clashed completely with her formal blouse. Her bare calves were fully exposed.
On her right foot, wearing a house slipper, she stood slightly tiptoed, the weight pressing down on her toes and turning the pale arch of her foot faintly pink at the heel.
There was also an open bottle of alcohol on the table.
Despite being a wealthy young lady with a refined, elegant face, she clearly dabbled in both smoking and drinking.
Mi Xiaoliu had only come home from school to grab some cat food.
By the time Sasha warned her it was rude to unlock the door without ringing the bell, she had already turned the key. After all, Heli often did the same thing.
Then she saw the blonde girl slumped over the table.
No—to Mi Xiaoliu, that was a blonde big sister.
She took a step back.
It smelled bad.
Her cozy nook was now polluted. She felt sad.
“She actually fell asleep dressed like that? Doesn’t she worry about catching a cold?” Sasha muttered, exasperated.
“Catch a cold?” To Mi Xiaoliu, that word was synonymous with menstrual cramps.
Which hurt. A lot.
She poked the girl’s arm again. Still no reaction.
Mi Xiaoliu brought over a blanket to cover her. It slipped off.
She tried again. It slid off again.
Confused. Heli’s blankets never slipped off when she tucked Mi Xiaoliu in during homework time.
“Master, you’re just too kind. Why even bother with her?” Sasha sounded displeased. “Still, the old Master definitely wouldn’t have left her alone like this.”
Though she didn’t approve, as an accessory of her Master, she figured she ought to offer some advice: “Judging by what she’s wearing, a single blanket probably won’t be enough. If the Master is really worried, you could try moving her to the bed… Hmm, given your size difference, you’d probably need to carry her princess style.”
“Princess carry?” Mi-style curiosity piqued.
“Master, slip your left arm under her knees—yes, like that. Then wrap your right arm around her shoulders and lift—yes, that’s it.”
Under Sasha’s guidance, the warm, soft body of the young woman was lifted without much difficulty. Her hot skin didn’t present any inappropriate contact issues.
“…Heavy.” That was Mi Xiaoliu’s only thought.
Gloria was clearly bigger than her. Carrying her was exhausting—and looked very strange.
“Master, don’t just stand there. Take her to the bed.”
Mi Xiaoliu followed instructions, walking over to the bed.
“Alright, put her down now,” Sasha said, letting out a relieved sigh like someone instructing a toddler.
Standing straight beside the bed, Mi Xiaoliu simply let go.
The girl she’d been carrying dropped with a thud onto the hard mattress, then rolled off the edge with a whap and landed on the floor.
Sasha: “…”
When the alcohol-reeking Gloria suddenly grabbed Mi Xiaoliu by the collar and threw her toward Heli, Heli was completely baffled.
“Keep an eye on your kid.” Golia rubbed the back of her head and shot a glare at Mi Xiaoliu. “Is he brain-damaged or something?”
“What happened?” Heli asked as she gently patted Mi Xiaoliu’s head to soothe her.
“He tried to kill me.” Gloria rubbed her bruised scalp again.
All she did was say he stank. Was that so unforgivable? This brat was probably one of those crazy “justice warrior” types.
“And he touched my leg.” She vaguely remembered that part from when she was half-awake.
“Oh.” Heli’s response was completely flat.
“‘Oh’? That’s it?” Gloria was furious.
“Then want to touch his back?” Heli replied, annoyed. She bent down and rolled up Mi Xiaoliu’s pant leg, offering the skinny calf. “Have at it.”
Mi Xiaoliu took a step back, clearly reluctant.
This woman smelled.
“Are you f—k—ng kidding me?” Gloria had to choke down her rage. She knew this weird school nurse was implying that the brat was just curious—and that she shouldn’t take it personally.
The kind of excuse people always gave: “He’s just curious”—to justify the pervy actions of boys who were still “too young to know better.” It disgusted her. But under someone else’s roof, she had to play nice. She’d settle the score later.
She glared at Mi Xiaoliu, eyes blazing.
Just you wait. We’ve got beef now.
“I’m hungry. Is dinner ready? I smelled something.”
She pulled out a chair and sat down.
“Mmm…” Heli grabbed a few clean oversized beakers to serve food. “I bought a TV. You can turn it on and watch.”
“You don’t usually watch TV,” Gloria said, suspicious.
“I do now.”
Well, good. Her phone was dead anyway, and now she wouldn’t have to awkwardly look at that brat.
She turned on the TV and flicked through the channels while shouting toward the kitchen, “Hey old lady, you and my mom are cooking up some shady project together, aren’t you?”
“What makes you say that? And don’t smoke in here—it could explode.”
“I overheard my mom funding you. That’s not a school nurse’s salary.” She snuffed out the cigarette in annoyance and turned her head toward Mi Xiaoliu.
Only to find the brat now wary—he stood up and took a step back, avoiding the path of her smoke.
Her bullying of the “master” incited disapproval from Circle the cat, who meowed angrily and dashed over, slapping her ankle repeatedly with paws seven times faster than a normal cat’s.
But it only made Gloria laugh. She scooped the cat into her arms and started playing with it. Even when it extended its claws, she wasn’t scratched.
For a moment, she thought she saw a faint golden glow surrounding Circle’s paws.
“Also, there’s been a sudden surge of healing-type students at the Academy, hasn’t there? Even some underage ones got accepted,” she said, turning her attention back to Mi Xiaoliu.
The kid stood up and stepped back again. Dumb. Didn’t he see she wasn’t even smoking anymore?
“Miss Young Lady,” Heli came over carrying a tray with large beakers full of food. “Our thoughts align more than you realize.”
“Are you sure you’re not running human experiments?” Gloria narrowed her eyes.
“You’ll have to ask the headmaster about that. I’m just a worker.” Heli sat down calmly. “Feel free to report us to the police.”
Before the young lady could say anything else, Heli reached out to tidy Mi Xiaoliu’s hair. “That tenant moved out today. I’ll clean the room up for her later—you can go back to your own room to sleep tonight.”
Mi Xiaoliu grabbed her sleeve with a hint of reluctance. “No. Smells bad.”
The young lady froze, sniffing herself repeatedly, trying to figure out what the kid meant.
“You drank too much. Your mom told you not to,” Heli said with a blank expression. Then she turned to Mi Xiaoliu. “Then you can stay in the new room. Or you can keep sleeping in mine.”
