Chapter 28: Damn Those Who “Uphold Justice on Behalf of Heaven.”
“You’re being watched by Foboler.” This was the message Wei Shi sent.
No one knew how he found out—his base was far from Mi Xiaoliu, and he had never seen her in her usual state.
Mi Xiaoliu replied with three dots. If one could check her chat history, they’d see she never sent anything but dots.
“Idiot, I told you not to expose yourself. What’s in your head, a walnut? If you get caught, don’t sell out the organization.”
Seeing that string of text made her inexplicably annoyed. The landlord said feeling irritable was normal during a “blood loss debuff.”
Just like she did with Hayato last time, she kept spamming dots. Wei Shi seemed unfazed by her petty tantrum.
Heli approached. Mi Xiaoliu quickly hid her phone and stared at the ceiling, dazed—like a kid who faked being sick and got caught playing on their phone under the covers by their mom.
“Still hurting?”
Heli wasn’t her mom, so she didn’t care about these little antics.
“Much better.”
Of course it was—it was already dark outside.
“Tomorrow’s Monday. Did you finish your homework?”
“No homework.”
Heli lifted her chin slightly and returned a pair of colored contacts to Mi Xiaoliu, along with a tote bag holding some sanitary pads.
“It’ll last about a week. Watch your diet, no intense exercise, and change pads frequently. For the first couple days, every two to three hours, then adjust based on the situation… You can go back now.”
What a lucky girl. When Heli had her first period, it happened during class. Her pale yellow skirt got stained, and she only found out after someone pointed it out—then got laughed at by all the boys in class.
She had studied those contacts all day, but still couldn’t figure out how they worked. Maybe with more precise instruments, something could be discovered—but they weren’t hers, and she didn’t have the right to take them without permission.
“Do you know who made them?” Heli asked.
Mi Xiaoliu just stared at her in silence.
Heli, who had spent the whole day with her, knew that silence meant: I have no idea.
It looked annoying, but it seemed like she thought not knowing was her fault and that’s why she didn’t dare answer—like when a kid is caught pulling a prank and doesn’t dare admit it to their parents.
Maybe someone had gotten angry when she once said “I don’t know.”
What a strange kid.
“There’s been an incident on our side. Area A is in chaos,” the contact’s voice came through the earpiece. “Have you seen Mi Xiaoliu?”
“Yeah, just saw him—he went back to his room, carrying a tote bag. No idea what’s inside,” Yiwen replied with frustration.
Nothing has gone smoothly these days. Even buying bottled water, someone had tampered with it.
“When exactly did you see him? Down to the second.”
“Just now—less than a minute ago. If you hadn’t called, I would’ve gone over to talk to him.” Yiwen responded with annoyance. “Do you need backup?”
Who knows if that tote bag held N1202. Now he’d locked himself in his room—too late to catch him in the act. She should’ve run over to snatch it, but those words “incident” made her freeze up.
“Then you can all withdraw. Surveillance mission canceled.”
“What happened?” Yiwen asked in confusion.
“A black-clad person who attacked you appeared on the north side of Area A. He broke three of Humpback Whale’s ribs barehanded and escaped unscathed from a siege by 37 ability enhanced police officers, including Humpback Whale himself—just before I contacted you.”
“Are you serious?”
Even though she’d been beaten up by that person herself, her first reaction was disbelief.
Humpback Whale was a real-deal LV4 physical enhancer. His ability aside, just his body size made one wonder if Lu Zhishen could survive a few punches from him.
Basically, he was like a normal-skinned Hulk.
Her phone buzzed twice—a video was sent. Surveillance footage, surprisingly intact given how rampant “Uphold Justice on Behalf of Heaven” was in Fanzui City.
A hooded trench coat figure, only a sliver of leg wrapped in boots exposed.
But from the build, it was clearly the same black-clad person who broke her right hand with one punch. He stood silently in the middle of the road, surrounded by police cars arranged as barriers, and nearby, twisted guns lay like pretzels.
Scattered all around were peculiarly dressed individuals—obviously ability-enhanced police officers, but none dared to act rashly.
It looked like a dead-end siege. But someone like him? Could probably punch through a one-meter-thick wall.
Across from him stood Fanzui City’s top police ace—Humpback Whale. Even in the wide encirclement, he still made the space feel cramped.
A giant over three meters tall, he ripped off his jacket under the light spring drizzle, revealing his swollen yet powerful muscles. A red mask on his head made him look like a wrestler.
That frame and those taut muscles made people believe he could literally stop an earthquake with a punch.
He reached out to grapple, but despite his size, he moved with surprising agility. Still, the opponent was faster, attacking with pinpoint punches to the abdomen, groin, and lower body.
Just like movie fight scenes—unrealistic. The smaller man used minimal strength to counter massive power and even had spare energy to retaliate.
There wasn’t much to admire—just high-speed punches and dodging that the eye could barely follow. Even police officers trying to help were injured by the shockwaves from the two’s fight.
Then, as their movements intensified, police cars were flipped over, the battle spilling across the street. The first-floor walls of nearby buildings were all but obliterated.
The destruction was still spreading—soon it looked like they might take down load-bearing walls too—before the big guy got kicked back onto the street.
Such a dramatic scene—more dramatic was that the black-clad man’s hood never got blown off.
From a distance, it looked like soft deflection like Tai Chi vs. sloppy drunken boxing, but only those involved knew the terrifying force hidden behind those “gentle” punches.
In the end, Humpback Whale could barely land a hit and got pounded until he was flailing, then sent flying into another street.
A normal person would’ve run to the next city. But a dumb female reporter actually dared to approach for a live stream—and almost got smashed by the flying body—until the black-clad figure rushed in to shield her.
“It’s impact neutralization! And a very high purity version too!” the driver uncle who had leaned in to watch exclaimed excitedly.
Yiwen: “??”
Embarrassed, the drivering uncle smiled at her. “Why was the Humpback Whale flailing around like that?”
“To prevent the opponent from warping objects into his vital points like last time,” Yiwen explained grumpily. “That’s the only reason Uncle, why the Humpback Whale lost.”
It was obvious their technique was evenly matched, and Humpback Whale had more brute force—but because he had to guard against space-manipulating abilities, he lost the upper hand.
“Finished the footage?” the contact asked.
“Yeah.”
“Thoughts?”
“That reporter didn’t die?” Yiwen replied, irritated.
“???” The contact debated reporting that to Officer Chen, but knowing how bad his temper had been lately, chose not to take advantage.
“This person let us surround them. It was a show of force. After the fight, they even looked into the reporter’s camera and shouted, ‘A warning from ‘Uphold Justice on Behalf of Heaven’ (Tian Xing Dao) to the police. We’re preliminarily calling it a demonstration.”
“But he didn’t use any space abilities. What if it’s an impersonator?”
“…White Whale, LV4s aren’t exactly common. Especially melee types with no visible body change.” The contact paused. “They’ve always targeted us, but we’ve never gone lethal on either side. The balance probably won’t break now… but being suspicious is good. We’ll probably know by tomorrow.”
“Okay.” Yiwen nodded, not sure why they’d know by tomorrow, but that didn’t stop her from cursing in her heart—
Damn those “Uphold Justice on Behalf of Heaven” (Tian Xing Dao)!
