Chapter 49: The Historian
Karoso, still obedient, approached a machine that had Poisoner locked inside it.
Looking at the complicated words on top, Karoso furrowed his brow and said, "Neymar."
"Here," Neymar quickly came to Karoso’s side.
"Help me analyze these words and open this thing," Karoso said.
"I’ll give it a try," Neymar said seriously.
[Master Karoso can’t open this thing?]
[With Master Karoso’s temper, he would probably just cut it with one sword.]
[Oh gosh, I thought Neymar, who was still with Master Karoso, was just a mascot.]
[Are you underestimating the great God of Wisdom? These are the first group of battle wizards, for heaven’s sake.]
[Do you think you can handle this wisdom like Akuya?]
"Is this… text from before the era of innovation?" Neymar asked in surprise.
"Yes, this is the era of the gods," Karoso nodded. "Do you know why Elemental Mages have the highest tuition fees?"
"All Elemental Mages are historians."
"Nature Mages rely on natural affinity for their magic. The higher their affinity with nature, the more they can borrow power from it. In battles, Nature Mages heavily depend on their surroundings. For example, if there is no wind, they will struggle with wind spells unless there is a strong wind present."
"Elemental Mages, on the other hand, communicate with Elemental Spirits. Research from a long time ago revealed that Elemental Spirits are not immortal; they are similar to living beings. Some ancient Elemental Spirits communicated with wizards from ancient times, and these spirits are reluctant to learn new languages. This leads to the fact that the more languages one knows, the more elements they can communicate with, making their magic stronger. Moreover, some ancient Elemental Spirits possess greater power."
"Big brother, I know these basics…" Neymar blushed, "I only got ninety-eight points on the test and embarrassed you. I will try harder…"
[Hahaha, she thought Master Karoso was explaining to her.]
[Neymar is so cute.]
[So what you’re saying is, Elemental Mage’s spells have to be understandable when fighting, or else nobody knows what you’re trying to do.]
[When Master Karoso said that, it made me think of a concept, that wizards currently speak a language that imitates the language of the High Elves in the past.]
[Yes, High Elves have the strongest magical talent, and their conversations with the elements are simpler.]
[I remember someone translated that High Elf language actually means: ‘Fire Spirit, we have been friends for so many years, help me out, create an eighth-level super powerful fireball spell that can burn him to ashes, I will provide half of the magic power, please and thank you. If there is a good opportunity like this next time, I will come to you again.]
[Darn, suddenly not feeling so advanced.]
Karoso looked at the bullet comment with confusion.
Phew, they don’t seem to understand… Oh well, they don’t rely on this battle anyway, and they don’t care about it.
When Neymar saw that Karoso was ignoring her, she started translating on her own.
For Neymar, Karoso’s current reaction was considered normal.
"Like this, like this…" Neymar looked at the complicated buttons below, pressing them one by one.
Drip!
Gurgle gurgle…
Click.
With a crisp sound, the liquid inside the jar was slowly drained, and the glass cover was lifted.
Instinctively, Karoso pulled Neymar back, placing his sword in front of him.
Hiss!
The Poisoner sprayed a cloud of poison, but Karoso’s sword flared up with flames, instantly burning away the poison fog, destroying the viruses.
Visible to the naked eye, the Poisoner shriveled up and vaporized upon encountering the air, until only a mechanical arm remained.
Karoso touched his sword to the copper, feeling it was safe before picking up the mechanical arm.
"You guard me, don’t let anything threaten me, I need to make two cards on the spot," Karoso said to Neymar.
"Yes!" Neymar tightened her grip on her magic wand and nodded firmly.
……
Teresa and her companions had now reached the first layer, battling countless cultists.
Teresa noticed that although these cultists appeared to be at Level Three, many fell short of this standard and were weakened versions. They had few cards, but their magic levels were normal for Level Three.
"Keep formation, shield warrior move forward, Paladin use Holy Light spells, attendants stay close to shield warriors and shield them from deadly attacks!" Teresa commanded calmly.
These attendants are not real people, they are Attendant Cards.
Now these cultists are organized and disciplined, making it difficult to advance. Without Teresa’s leadership, they would have likely been defeated by now.
"Those in the back, stay away from the elevator. One team, fall back and guard the elevator entrance, do not let anyone go up!" Teresa swiftly killed a wraith descending from the sky with her sword. A black, liquid-like substance stuck to her armor, sizzling as it made contact.
Soon, a group of ten people retreated backward.
Among them were four warriors, two Paladins, two Pastors, and two Nature Mages, creating a well-balanced team.
They guarded the elevator entrance, ready to slay any cultists attempting to approach.
Furthermore, any invaders attempting to go up would have to get through them first.
The invaders had witnessed Teresa’s decisive killings before.
"What to do?"
"Darn it, all we can do now is pray that Karoso will be alright on his own."
Some onlookers from different schools couldn’t help but feel anxious.
At this moment, whether leaving the group or approaching the group of ten people, both options carried great risks.
The students from these schools had simple thoughts – if they continued to advance like this, they could conquer this dungeon. However, they also had their own missions.
"Your Royal Highness Princess Teresa, I want to go support Karoso," a warrior spoke up. "I also come from the Canglang Province, I must protect him."
"Yes, I want to help him too!"
"He can’t do this alone!"
"Everyone, be quiet!" Teresa coldly glanced at those who spoke up. "Whether you are his enemy or his friend, you either die, leave the group, or fight honestly!"
"Anyone who leaves the group and dares to come near the elevator will be killed!"
"As for his safety, he said he only needs that wizard, he doesn’t need any other support."
"But what if he insists?" The warrior became anxious, "If he fails, we are in danger too."
"That’s his problem." Teresa faced the enemy again with focus, "He said he would never let the monsters from the other side come here. I don’t believe a strong person who can move freely among infidels would trust a bunch of worthless people like you."
