Volume 3 + Chapter 97: Still Came
When Xia Yi was picking up her takeout earlier, her attention was entirely focused on the manga, only glancing at the delivery person out of the corner of her eye.
It wasn’t until later that she gradually began to feel something was off.
The person who had just delivered her food was the Witch!
She hurriedly ran back and opened the door, only to find the Witch was no longer there.
“Where did she go…? Ah! There!”
Xia Yi looked around and spotted a figure in the corner of the hallway.
It was a girl dressed in a witch’s robe, her long dark purple hair giving off an especially mysterious aura. She turned her head, looked at Xia Yi, smiled faintly, and then disappeared around the corner.
That was her.
The very same Witch Xia Yi had encountered before at Laurel Academy, who called herself the Apostle of Calamity—an extremely dangerous being.
Back then, the Witch had mistaken Xia Yi for a fellow witch and tried to communicate with her, but they ended up parting on bad terms.
“Don’t go!”
Xia Yi shouted, slipping on her sandals and rushing out into the hallway.
She couldn’t understand why the Witch would suddenly come looking for her like this.
And even delivered her takeout?
That was just too weird!
Ever since their last encounter, Xia Yi had harbored a bad feeling, as if the Witch was scheming something behind the scenes. Her sudden appearance definitely had some purpose.
Since the other party had shown up voluntarily, Xia Yi decided to chase after her and get some answers.
When she reached the hallway, she saw the Witch already at the bottom of the stairs, walking out.
There was nothing else to do but keep chasing.
“I said, don’t go! What do you want?”
Xia Yi yelled, but the Witch paid no attention.
Ordinary people couldn’t perceive the Witch’s presence, so no one else could see this strange figure moving through Laurel Academy.
Only Xia Yi could see her.
She didn’t know why—perhaps it had something to do with the aura of calamity?
After all, she had come into contact with the Legendary Beast twice before.
By the time Xia Yi reached the stairway, the Witch’s figure had already moved to the next spot, almost as if she were teleporting—it was incredibly bizarre.
“Could it be… that the Witch is deliberately luring me somewhere?”
Xia Yi felt this was highly likely.
Just where did this Witch want to take her?
After a moment’s hesitation, she decided to keep following.
As long as it wasn’t a dangerous area, what harm was there in seeing where this led?
Following the Witch, Xia Yi moved from the dormitory area into the academic district of Laurel Academy, then left the campus and entered the city of Laurel.
Finally, they stopped in front of a massive estate.
In front of the estate were many Laurel Academy students, many of whom had dressed up for the occasion, wearing suits and gowns.
Xia Yi watched as the Witch blended in among the students and entered the estate.
Without thinking too much, she hurried to follow.
But at the entrance, she was stopped.
“Miss, hello. May I see your invitation?”
“Invitation?”
Xia Yi looked up.
The person addressing her was a servant of the luxurious estate, responsible for greeting guests.
“Yes, miss. To enter Miss Lia’s estate, you’ll need to present an invitation to the Freshman Social,” the servant explained.
“Lia… invitation… Huh!?”
It was only then that Xia Yi realized.
This was the luxurious estate the Schubert family had rented in Laurel.
Lia had offered her own residence as the venue for a grand party—the Freshman Social.
Did the Witch come here to join the party?
Why had she led Xia Yi to a place like this?
“Oh, it’s Xia Yi!”
“Didn’t Xia Yi say she wasn’t coming to the Freshman Social?”
“Looking like that, she doesn’t seem like she’s here to participate…”
Other attendees noticed Xia Yi, their gazes gathering on her.
Because right now, Xia Yi looked incredibly out of place.
Her usually tied-up black hair was loose, she was wearing casual loungewear, and she had sandals on…
She really didn’t look like she was here for the Freshman Social.
Xia Yi didn’t know what to say—in her hurry to chase the Witch, she hadn’t had time to change.
But since the Witch had clearly entered Lia’s estate, even if she wasn’t keen on attending, she had to go in.
“Miss, is something the matter?” the servant asked.
“I…”
Xia Yi was at a loss.
She needed to show an invitation to the Freshman Social.
She had received one, but she’d have to go back and get it, which meant another trip.
With a sigh, she was about to leave when she felt something in her pocket.
Pulling it out, she saw it was an invitation to the Freshman Social!
She distinctly remembered not bringing it when she left.
Who had put it there?
The Witch?
“Ah, yes, miss. This is it.”
The servant took the invitation, verified it, nodded, and gestured for her to enter.
“Miss Xia Yi – Lawrence, welcome to the Freshman Social.”
And so, dressed in loungewear, Xia Yi entered the estate—accidentally attending the Freshman Social after all.
“Didn’t want to come… but still ended up here…”
……
“Miss Lia.”
Inside the estate, a servant approached Lia to report.
“What’s the result?”
“The Knight Princess politely declined and expressed her hope that you would enjoy yourself.”
“I see.”
Lia responded calmly.
This outcome didn’t surprise her.
The Frost family’s Knight Princess seemed to be conducting some investigative tasks near Laurel Academy.
Lia had used the Freshman Social as an excuse to invite the Knight Princess to attend—just like how the Human Sword Saint had unexpectedly appeared at the opening ceremony before.
But just like last time, the Knight Princess hadn’t agreed.
There had long been tensions between the Frost and Schubert families.
Though the Rhine Kingdom was controlled by the four great families, they were not entirely united, maintaining only a delicate balance to preserve the fragile status quo.
Lia’s goal had been to gauge the Frost family’s recent stance through the Knight Princess, but since she hadn’t come, it didn’t matter—there was no loss either way.
For now, she would focus on the Freshman Social.
Lia sat at her vanity as her maid prepared to help her dress for the event.
“Miss Lia, what accessories would you like to wear tonight?” the maid asked. “How about a pendant?”
“A pendant…”
Suddenly, Lia thought of something. She pulled open a drawer in her vanity, revealing a small box inside.
Opening it, she found a silver four-leaf clover pendant—already broken.
Even though it was damaged, Lia had kept it all these years, never throwing it away.
Her thoughts drifted back to that sunlit afternoon, when a handsome young boy stood before her, smiling innocently.
“Lia, from today onward, I’ll be your brother.”
