Volume 3 + Chapter 77: Weirdo
Xia Yi had only wanted to go out and buy some materials to make a conversion potion.
But who could’ve imagined she’d run into such a strange woman, who didn’t seem friendly at all?
She could’ve sent Xia Yi straight to jail—yet she didn’t. Instead, she started threatening her.
Looking at the doctor’s malicious smile, Xia Yi involuntarily took a step back.
Bad person. This is definitely a bad person!!
“W-What are you trying to do?!” Xia Yi stared at the doctor.
“Xia Yi, if you don’t want to be taken away like this, then…”
The doctor’s smile grew even wider. She leaned down toward the black-haired loli, bringing her lips close to Xia Yi’s ear, and whispered.
“Call me ‘big sister.’”
“…Eh?”
Xia Yi was stunned.
Wait.
What did this doctor just say?
Big sister??
That word was completely outside the scope of her expectations.
She had assumed it would definitely be a threat to extract something from the Lawrence family, like.
“If you don’t want to go to prison, then obediently hand over some money. After all, you wouldn’t want to damage the reputation of the Lawrence family, would you?”
Or maybe a demand for inside information, like.
“If you don’t want to go to jail, then do as you’re told and tell me the secrets of Laurel Academy. You wouldn’t want to get expelled over this, would you?”
But instead… the doctor only wanted Xia Yi to call her ‘big sister’?
“This… can’t be right!! You’re threatening me just for that?!” Xia Yi asked in disbelief.
“Don’t you have any more real demands?”
“Nope.” The doctor shook her head.
“Why would calling you ‘big sister’ make you let me go?”
The doctor explained with a straight face.
“Probably because I’m an only child. Even among my extended relatives, I’m the youngest. I’ve always wanted a cute little sister—to experience what it’s like to be a big sister.”
“This…”
“What’s wrong, Xia Yi? You think it’s not okay?” The doctor looked at her.
Of course it’s not okay!!
Do you know how old I am? You want me to call you big sister?
I’m not a child!
Xia Yi really didn’t want to do it.
She was a sword saint in her thirties and a dragon over six—six hundred years old! If you combined the two identities, she could reasonably be seen as in her thirties.
The doctor looked quite young, probably in her twenties at most.
I’m at least ten years older than you. You want me to call you big sister?
What about the dignity of the human race’s sword saint?!
In her entire life, she had never called anyone “big sister.” Based on seniority, you should be calling me big sister—wait, no, it should be “big brother!”
No way!
Xia Yi crossed her arms and turned her head aside, clutching her modestly curvy chest.
Unyielding and resolute!
“Oh, so that’s Xia Yi’s choice? I understand,” the doctor shrugged.
“Then we’ll proceed as we should. As a warning to everyone, let Xia Yi be marched through the streets in handcuffs, on public display~”
Paraded through the streets?
Just imagining it…
Hu Luobo would laugh at her mercilessly.
If Hill saw it too, her dignity as mayor would vanish in front of her students.
No way. That cannot happen!!
“Time to go report this to the Holy Knight Order—”
The doctor stood up, about to leave.
“No! You can’t!!”
Xia Yi panicked. She jumped up and grabbed the doctor’s sleeve.
“Hm?” The doctor turned back.
Xia Yi bit her lip, her gaze avoiding direct eye contact. Her face flushed red. Utter humiliation—this was so humiliating!
But…
There was no other choice.
“Doctor… big sister…” the little noble murmured softly.
“Not doctor. I believe I already told you my name?”
“Claire… big sister…!”
Xia Yi practically threw away her pride to say it.
“Mhm, not bad at all. So this is what it feels like to be a big sister? How interesting.” The doctor smiled, very satisfied.
“Only this once! There will not be a next time!!” Xia Yi blocked her blushing face with her arm and declared firmly.
“Alright then. Since that’s the case, I’ll let you off—uh!!”
The doctor, who had seemed perfectly fine, suddenly changed expression. Her body became unsteady and she collapsed as if overcome by a serious illness.
“What’s wrong with you?!”
Xia Yi rushed to catch her.
The doctor’s condition didn’t look good—her body was trembling slightly.
“In… my pocket… hurry…”
“Where?”
“My… pocket… take it out… let me… take it…” the doctor urged weakly.
Xia Yi didn’t dare delay. She assumed the doctor had some illness and carried medicine in her pocket, so she quickly helped her into a chair and searched her pockets.
But when she pulled out the so-called “medicine,” she was dumbfounded.
This… counts as medicine?!
It was a strawberry milk lollipop.
“Yes… yes… that’s the one… give it to me…” The doctor’s weak voice sounded like she was about to die—but upon seeing her “lifesaver,” she clung to life.
Xia Yi frowned, still doubtful, but unwrapped the lollipop and placed it in the doctor’s mouth.
Moments later, the doctor’s expression relaxed, and her condition visibly stabilized. She actually returned to normal.
“Sorry about that, Xia Yi. If I don’t eat sugar, I might die—literally,” the doctor said, holding the lollipop as she explained.
Xia Yi didn’t even know what to say. She was completely shocked.
Seriously? Is sugar really that good?
She didn’t think it was as tasty as osmanthus cake…
Weirdo.
That was Xia Yi’s evaluation of the doctor, a total weirdo. Her way of thinking was so different from normal people’s that it was impossible to keep up with her.
“Can I leave now, Doctor? I’ll transfer the money for all the materials to you.”
Xia Yi didn’t want to keep entangling with her.
“Xia Yi, next, you need to come with me.”
“You’re still going to throw me in jail? I already did what you asked!” Xia Yi was angry.
“You’re going back on your word!”
“It’s not jail. I just want you to brew the alchemical potion you wanted using these materials—in front of me,” the doctor explained.
“Even though I don’t think you’re a bad person, I still have to confirm that your potion isn’t meant to harm others. That’s my duty as a Rhine Alchemy staff member.”
Xia Yi was speechless.
But from the doctor’s perspective, it was… actually reasonable.
“…After I make the potion in front of you, will this be completely over?”
“Yes.”
“You’re not allowed to use any other excuse! You must swear!”
“Alright, then I’ll swear.”
The doctor raised her hand and made an oath in front of Xia Yi, using her honor as an alchemist as her pledge. That finally put Xia Yi a little more at ease.
“I really don’t get it… we don’t even know each other. Why are you doing all this?” Xia Yi muttered.
She had thought complaining like this would get no reply.
“Xia Yi, do you want to know why?”
But the doctor smiled—and then gave a completely absurd answer.
