Volume 3 + Chapter 6: The Lawrence Family
Xia Yi looked at Yue Liu.
She thought to herself, This pink-head clearly doesn’t get along with me—what could she possibly have to say to me now?
She was a bit confused.
“What do you want to say?” Xia Yi asked.
Yue Liu slowly raised her hand and pointed at Xia Yi.
“I hereby declare—from this moment on, you are now the second person I hate the most!!”
That’s right!
She felt this little human mage was seriously annoying.
Even though she still didn’t know the human girl’s name, ever since they met, this person had been clashing with her at every turn.
To this degree… she was reminded of someone else.
Her number one most hated person—the Silver Dragon Princess, Xia Yi · Christie.
That Xia Yi was her sworn rival, the one she had vowed to conquer.
And now, this little human mage also seriously pissed her off.
“In my eyes, you’re nothing more than a small fry! Next time, I’ll use my full power and completely crush you, you little shrimp!”
Yue Liu made a silly face at Xia Yi, stuck out her cute pink tongue, and delivered a full-blown taunt.
“Blehhh~!”
“Hah? You really think you—HEY!! Don’t run!!”
Before Xia Yi could even respond, Yue Liu had already dashed off in a flash. She didn’t even give Xia Yi a chance to talk back before disappearing into the crowd, swallowed up by the flow of people.
So shameless—pulling a stunt like that!
Damn it!
Xia Yi made up her mind—if she ever saw that girl again, she’d make sure to teach her a proper lesson!
…
“Whoa! Humans!!”
Xia Yi stood on the bustling street, and in her field of vision, there were only humans.
She had already forgotten how long it had been since she last saw a scene like this.
Ever since she’d set out to challenge the dragon race and entered the Dragon Kingdom, only to be defeated and turned into the Dragon Princess… she’d never returned to a human city.
It had been… What, more than six years now?
“So many people!”
Xia Yi couldn’t help but sigh from the heart.
She had really returned to the human world.
“…Sigh.”
After that wave of excitement, Xia Yi’s heart felt a little empty.
Now that she was back in the human world, she realized—there wasn’t anyone here waiting for her return.
She had nowhere to go back to.
The place she once considered home—the Schubert family—had willingly abandoned her.
Standing on this land, she didn’t feel a strong sense of coming home. Instead, what tugged at her heart was…
“Ugh! Stop thinking like that! Stop, stop, stop!”
Xia Yi quickly shook her head and slapped her cheeks to get herself together.
“Alright, next I should head to the Lawrence family.”
Lucia had marked the exact location of the Lawrence estate on the map she gave Xia Yi. Before Xia Yi set out, Lucia had already sent a letter to the Lawrence family, explaining the situation. All Xia Yi had to do was show up.
“Now I just need to hire a carriage.”
There were other, faster modes of transportation in the human world.
Like taming magical beasts and using them as mounts—those were far faster than normal horses. Some magical beasts even had the ability to fly.
But since she hadn’t officially taken on the Lawrence family identity yet, Xia Yi decided to keep a low profile and avoid drawing unnecessary attention. Renting a higher-tier transport required identity registration, after all.
All of this—was knowledge unique to the human world!
Since she’d regained her memories as the former Human Sword Saint, all that information was stored neatly in her little princess brain.
If it had been any other dragon, they probably would’ve exposed their identity with a mistake in a detail like this.
That’s exactly why Xia Yi was the most suitable dragon in the entire Dragon Kingdom to infiltrate the human world!
She entered the city and soon found a carriage rental shop.
The shopkeeper looked at the little mage—her clothing and appearance didn’t match the style of the Rhine Kingdom. Traveling alone and clearly not an ordinary person, she had to be a mage of some skill. Probably a young heiress with money to spare.
The shopkeeper thought, Time to fleece this fat sheep, and raised the price slightly.
But the moment Xia Yi opened her mouth, his attitude completely changed.
She was using the pure, authentic local Rhine accent.
“Hey now, you’re a local? Should’ve said so earlier! I thought you were one of those out-of-towners!” The shopkeeper laughed. “Miss, where are you headed? Since we’re fellow locals, I’ll give you a fair price!”
“I want to go to Bellen,” Xia Yi said.
The Lawrence family was in Bellen, which wasn’t too far from the capital of the Rhine Kingdom.
After agreeing on a price with the carriage shopkeeper, Xia Yi paid on the spot. The shopkeeper arranged a driver for her, and they set off for Bellen.
…
Xia Yi arrived in Bellen.
The journey was fairly long, and to make things worse, they even ran into some bandits.
But the ones who were truly unlucky—weren’t Xia Yi, but the bandits.
She used magic to knock all of them unconscious and tied them up. Once the local knights found them, they’d be tossed into jail and dealt with accordingly.
The Rhine Kingdom was more or less how she remembered it.
The closer the cities were to the capital, the better the security, thanks to the presence of the Holy Knights. But the farther out you went, the more chaotic things became—many people turned to shady dealings, or even bullied the poor, just like she once had been.
Back when she was the Human Sword Saint, she had seen things like this all the time while adventuring. She’d long since grown used to it.
Six years had passed, and this country still hadn’t changed much.
Xia Yi sighed inwardly.
The carriage gradually stopped in front of a noble estate. Xia Yi opened the door and slowly stepped out.
“Welcome to the Lawrence family, honored Miss Xia Yi.”
At the entrance to the estate, a middle-aged man in noble attire led a group of servants in bowing to her, greeting her in unison.
Xia Yi was taken aback by the spectacle.
Just how much money did Serra send the Lawrence family to get this kind of treatment? Even proud, arrogant human nobles were willing to bow to me like this?
“Greetings, Miss Xia Yi. I am the head of the Lawrence family, Keith Lawrence.”
The Lawrence family head, Keith, wore all sorts of luxury goods—flamboyantly flaunting his noble status. He looked rather thin, and his voice was a bit weak—a clear sign of overindulgence. Just like Lucia had described: the classic image of a spoiled, wasteful noble.
Still, the fact that Keith had personally come out to welcome her did show some respect.
Xia Yi politely returned the greeting. “Hello, Mr. Keith, head of the Lawrence family. I am Xia Yi.”
“Please, this way, Miss Xia Yi!”
After seeing Xia Yi’s refined manners and the noble elegance she naturally exuded, Keith’s attitude became even more respectful. He quickly invited her into the estate, where he offered her a warm reception in the guest lounge.
“Mr. Keith, I believe Lucia should have already explained the general situation in the letter she sent you,” Xia Yi said, skipping the small talk and getting straight to the point.
“Is there anything you’re unclear about that I should explain?”
“Yes, I understand,” Keith replied. “Miss Lucia has indeed informed us in advance. Miss Xia Yi, regarding your upcoming time with the Lawrence family…”
His voice trailed off, as if he was hinting at something, but hesitated to say it aloud.
Xia Yi smiled faintly and pulled something out, placing it in front of him.
In an instant, Keith’s expression changed. The head of the Lawrence family, who considered himself well-versed in the world, was so shocked he nearly jumped out of his seat.
“Th-this is?!”
