Volume 3 + Chapter 150: Sincerity
Silence fell once more.
Xia Yi was practically a master of awkward silences, her inexplicable behavior constantly leaving everyone dumbfounded.
The Combat Department’s senior instructor was equally astonished by this situation.
So were teachers from other departments.
Previously, everyone thought Xia Yi camping the exits and farming other teams like mobs was utterly absurd, practically a fantasy.
But seeing how easily she’d annihilated the manticore now made it seem almost…reasonable.
“Student Xia Yi’s magic is this powerful?”
“But she always sleeps in class!”
“Right! After the start of term, she never studied seriously. How can this be?!”
Everyone voiced their confusion.
“I…well…”
Xia Yi didn’t know how to explain.
This magic was child’s play to her!
But saying that outright seemed a bit too harsh.
It really wasn’t anything to boast about!
“I actually practice magic diligently every night after class, researching until late! That’s why I get sleepy during lectures!!”
In a panic, Xia Yi quickly fabricated an excuse.
This type of person probably existed in real life.
The kind who never pays attention in class, making everyone assume they must be failing terribly.
Yet when exams come, their scores crush all the diligent students’. Asked how, they’d claim to study secretly after class, the ultimate grinders.
She decided to adopt this persona to explain things more plausibly.
“Ah…ah…”
Biden stared blankly at his manticore paste, momentarily speechless. The impact was simply too overwhelming.
Memories flashed vividly before his eyes.
“Teacher Biden…are you okay?”
Xia Yi approached tentatively:
“Does the Storm Wall count as completed? Do you still want me to demonstrate the other two spells?”
“……”
Biden completely ignored Xia Yi.
He looked utterly catatonic.
“Teacher Biden, should I showcase Shadow Canopy and Lightning Spear in combat too? Weren’t you testing me to prove I defeated those teams fairly?”
“Me?”
Biden blinked. After a long silence, he suddenly looked up as if suppressing emotions finally erupted, bursting into tears and beating his chest.
“WAAAHHH!! Manticore, my manticore!!!”
“Eh?!”
Xia Yi was perplexed.
Why was Biden so heartbroken?
That magical creature she’d defeated seemed no different from the magical beasts in the Ruins Forest, disposable mobs for students to farm…
Unless…they weren’t the same?
“Manticore, I failed you!! Waaah, manticore!!”
Tears streamed down Biden’s aged face as he wept bitterly.
Students whispered among themselves.
“Too terrifying, Student Xia Yi even bullies Teacher Biden!”
“A bully! An unprecedented campus tyrant!”
“Truly a Little Evil Dragon, making even a human magic master suffer!”
Xia Yi’s reputation was like a rollercoaster.
Initially, curiosity surrounded her, with girls fawning over her like some citrus-scented green tea.
Her stunning debut at the freshman dance, that noble elegance others couldn’t hope to match, became a textbook of etiquette, reversing opinions.
Later, cohabiting ambiguously with Hill and making Lia Schubert cry, she became a scumbag loli.
Now the campus overlord, a Little Evil Dragon even teachers couldn’t control…
Truly endless ups and downs.
But regardless, she was currently the most problematic student ever.
Before, only Biden disciplined students, never had a student reduced him to tears.
Xia Yi had truly made history in Laurel Tree Academy.
“Teacher Biden?”
Xia Yi was at a loss.
She genuinely hadn’t known!
Crucially, Storm Wall wasn’t even a powerful spell, back in the Dragon Palace, forget about Elly, even ordinary guards would only use it for bathing, never offense —- purely defensive.
Who knew Biden’s manticore would be paper-thin, crumbling at a touch?
She’d assumed it could withstand her triple spell combo!
“Teacher Biden, don’t cry.”
Xia Yi crouched down, attempting to console the grieving Biden.
Biden looked up, teeth gritted at the perpetrator, as if ready to risk his life fighting her.
His expression was genuinely frightening.
Steeling herself, Xia Yi forced out: “Teacher Biden…how about…I treat you to bubble tea next time?”
“Bubble tea?”
Biden froze.
He recalled their last encounter in Laurel City when he’d stumbled upon Xia Yi about to drink bubble tea…and what followed.
That incident had cost him all dignity, leaving him vulnerable to Xia Yi’s blackmail.
Enduring until now, he’d finally expected to expel this failing student, only to instead lose his summoned beast…
“ARGH!!”
Biden spat blood and collapsed unconscious.
“Teacher Biden?!”
Teachers and students alike were stunned.
A priest instructor immediately rushed forward to administer healing.
“How is he?” the combat instructor asked.
“Just agitated, fire attacking his heart from extreme frustration,” diagnosed the priest.
“Phew…if Teacher Biden died here, it’d be catastrophic.”
Now Xia Yi’s Little Evil Dragon image has been cemented further.
With just two sentences, she’d made a human grand mage spit blood!
Terrifying! Absolutely terrifying!
“But what about the results?”
“Though the assessment wasn’t completed, this demonstration should suffice, no?”
“Well…”
The teachers deliberated.
Gathering together, they agreed Xia Yi’s performance justified her top ranking, though her methods were…unconventional.
But since the exam rules never explicitly prohibited such tactics, they upheld her score.
Xia Yi officially ranked first in the monthly exam, far surpassing others, qualifying for Laurel Academy’s special reward.
“Xia Yi…”
Hill observed Xia Yi, again feeling confused, unable to comprehend what had happened to her teacher.
……
Laurel City.
“Eh? Sword Saint?!”
An injured man in his residence was startled by the unexpected visitor.
Wounded during the previous Sword Saint incident, he’d been recuperating at home.
When someone knocked, he assumed an acquaintance – never expecting the Sword Saint himself.
Now armorless, the Sword Saint revealed a mature, resolute face that inspired trust.
With that crucial potion, he could control his Draconification without constant armor.
“Don’t panic. I mean no harm, only to explain.”
“Explain…?”
“Yes, about last time.”
The Sword Saint nodded apologetically.
“It was a disciplinary issue with my student. Overeager to educate her, I carelessly involved innocents, injuring you. I sincerely apologize without expecting forgiveness, only hoping for this chance to explain.”
His attendant presented compensation so extravagant it shocked the victim.
Yet recalling that day still terrified him, the Sword Saint’s roars had sounded…nonhuman.
“Your Honor…why did you become…like that last time? Almost bestial,” the victim dared ask.
“Actually, that’s my ultimate technique against formidable foes. Using it alters me temporarily…but rest assured, I remain humanity’s Sword Saint. Your fear is understandable.”
After explaining, the Sword Saint bowed deeply.
The victim was moved.
By status, the human Sword Saint far outranked him, no apology was necessary.
Yet this humble, heartfelt remorse made him feel respected.
“Please don’t! You protect humanity – stress is understandable! To err is human! Your sincerity touches me. You’re exactly the Sword Saint we need!”
“Thank you for your faith. It shames me…I won’t fail your expectations,” the Sword Saint expressed gratitude.
……
After consoling the injured, the Sword Saint departed with his retinue.
“Your Honor, he’s just a commoner. Such courtesy…”
“No. Commoner or noble, all are equally human. We mustn’t discriminate,” the Sword Saint sternly corrected.
“Yes, Your Honor.”
The attendant nodded, awed by his master’s integrity, so unlike others. Perhaps this was why he became humanity’s hero.
“Your Honor, we’ve visited all victims. Shall we return?”
“No. One person remains…”
The Sword Saint narrowed his eyes at Laurel Academy.
“Xia Yi – Lawrence.”
