Volume 3 + Chapter 142: Just Kidding~
“James, what happened? You look terrible—don’t tell me you failed against the Rampaging Tortoise? Hahaha!”
A fellow Fist Combat student, Brand, burst into laughter at the sight of James and his team’s disheveled state.
Brand was one of the top talents in the Fist Combat Department and had always been James’ rival. Seeing James show up like this was too funny to ignore.
“We did try to take down the Rampaging Tortoise, but… we were defeated by a single person, and they stole all our monster emblems!” James said angrily. “They took both our Stormfang Wolf and Rampaging Tortoise emblems!”
“One person? Who?” Brand was confused.
“Xia Yi – Lawrence from the Magic Department.”
Brand’s confusion deepened.
Xia Yi was infamous in Laurel Academy—everyone knew her.
But…
“You’re telling me that cute little citrus-faced green tea girl beat all three of you alone?? And stole your emblems?!”
Brand’s expression screamed, “Are you kidding me?” No matter how he thought about it, it made no sense!
After all, James’ team was aiming for the top spot in this exam.
Kobe and Frank lowered their heads in shame, unable to bear the humiliation.
“It’s true, Brand!” James suppressed his embarrassment. “Right now, Xia Yi has the highest-scoring emblems for both grass and lightning types. We can work together to take them back! Afterward, we can discuss how to split them—don’t worry, you won’t be shortchanged!”
Hearing about the two highest-scoring emblems, Brand was tempted.
Earlier, they had tried to take down the strongest fire-type monster but arrived too late—someone else had already claimed it.
If they could secure even one of these emblems, they’d easily rank in the top ten. If they got both…
“Is this really okay?” Brand hesitated. “This is infighting. If the teachers or other students find out, it’ll ruin our reputation. It’s a pretty shameless move.”
“It’s fine! Bully Xia Yi struck first—we’re just defending ourselves!”
James was too furious to care. He had to gather more people to teach that scheming loli a lesson!
“Alright, since we’re classmates, I can’t just stand by and watch you get bullied. Let’s team up and get your emblems back!” Brand agreed.
……
“Ahh~”
Xia Yi yawned.
It had been a while since James left to gather reinforcements.
She was getting bored.
“How brave of you, Xia Yi, to actually wait for us like this.”
James sneered as he reappeared, leading several people—Kobe and Frank behind him, plus three others.
He’d actually brought backup.
But since she didn’t know them, she decided to call them—
Team Trash!
“Wait… this is the Xia Yi who beat all three of you?” Brand couldn’t help but ask when he saw her.
“Y-yes… We underestimated her!”
James forced himself to admit it.
“Same deal as before. Want them? Come and take them.”
Xia Yi didn’t waste time, tossing out the Rampaging Tortoise and Stormfang Wolf emblems.
Brand’s eyes gleamed at the sight. With such a huge prize at stake, who cared if this was fair or not?
Points were all that mattered.
“I beat them up, I stole their emblems, I let them go on purpose—it was all me,” Xia Yi confessed.
“You tyrant! Today, I’ll avenge my brothers!!”
Brand raised his hand dramatically, playing the righteous hero.
“Brand, don’t underestimate her. We got careless, and that’s why we lost!” James warned.
“Got it!”
Brand nodded, ordering his Team Trash to coordinate with the Three-Person Team.
“Move out! Heavy tank up front, swordsman and fist fighter flank, mage in the back, priest buffs, and I’ll roam mid!”
The six of them sprang into action.
The heavily armored tank charged at Xia Yi like a raging bull.
Kobe the swordsman and James the fist fighter followed closely.
Brand stayed in the middle, ready to support the backline.
The mage chanted spells, and the priest prayed, enveloping the six in a soft green glow—preemptive healing to recover any injuries instantly.
At a glance, this formation was nearly perfect for a full assault.
“Raging Bull Charge!!”
The tank raised his shield and barreled forward like a mad beast.
“Y-you… stay away!!”
Xia Yi drew her iron sword and slashed—but every strike bounced off harmlessly.
“What?! My swordsmanship… it’s useless?!”
“Hahaha! Did you really think you could break my shield?!” The tank laughed maniacally.
Xia Yi could only dodge, barely avoiding the charge.
Kobe and James closed in, unleashing their ultimate moves.
“It’s over…!” Xia Yi paled.
She seemed to push herself to the limit, forcing James back with a sword aura.
“Haaah!!”
Kobe’s twin swords clashed against her iron sword, sending her flying.
Before she even hit the ground, the mage’s fire spell exploded above her.
BOOM!!!
Under such relentless attacks, she stood no chance.
“Now I get why James’ team lost—they underestimated her,” Brand mused. “She’s strong, but against our flawless, invincible team? No way.”
“I… I…”
Xia Yi shakily stood up, seemingly full of regret for challenging them. Against such a team, she had no hope left.
“I want to—”
“Don’t even think about surrendering!! We won’t give you the chance! I’ll make you pay for all the humiliation!!” James roared, his fighting spirit erupting as he charged for the final blow.
Xia Yi trembled—the battle seemed decided.
But just as James’ fist was about to connect—
“Just kidding~”
The scheming loli stuck out her tongue, her expression shifting to pure delight. All traces of fear and hesitation vanished—as if it had all been an act.
Just like Xia Lulu used to do.
First, give the opponent hope. Then, crush it with overwhelming power.
The despair on their faces when reality hits?
That was the most fun part.
Swish!!
A merciless sword flash cut through the air.
James flew like a broken kite, crashing to the ground—unconscious.
One second.
The priest’s healing couldn’t even keep up.
From this moment on, the nature of the battle changed.
