Volume 3 + Chapter 13: I’m Just So Happy!
It’s this guy! It’s this guy!!
Xia Yi glared furiously at George, puffing up like a little pufferfish.
This guy had gone and rewritten her past, spinning up ridiculously exaggerated stories that had been turned into a comic now spreading all across the human world—causing countless misunderstandings about her!
He didn’t even get her consent before making things up out of thin air. This was infringement, serious infringement.
Well done, George. Well done.
Back when I was a kid, I fought thugs in three hundred rounds just to stand up for myself.
And now that you’re grown, you use every trick in the book to slander me, huh?!
“Hmm? Miss Xia Yi, have we met before?”
George had sensed something was off in her tone just now.
“Your earlier words sounded like you knew me, but… I don’t remember ever meeting you before?”
“You… must be imagining things! Today’s my first time meeting you too.”
Xia Yi quickly looked away.
That really had just slipped out—she hadn’t thought it through.
Her identity now was different from before. She absolutely couldn’t let it be exposed in front of others.
So frustrating!!
If only the transformation potion was a bit stronger and could change her back to her original male body, she’d storm up right now and give George a proper beating.
But as things were, she could only pretend she didn’t know him.
“I’m just… so happy, that’s all!”
“Happy?”
George stroked his chin and thought for a moment before suddenly getting it.
“I see now! Miss Xia Yi, you must be a devoted fan of the Sword Saint, and you really love The Legend of the Sword Saint, right?”
“Uh, uh… yes.”
Xia Yi forced a stiff smile as she uttered a totally insincere response.
What she really wanted was to smash George’s stupid head in with one punch!
“No wonder you were so emotional earlier. In that case, it’d be terrible if I didn’t give you a copy of the newest volume!”
George grabbed a pen and wrote an additional line on his signature page. Then, he enthusiastically stuffed The Legend of the Sword Saint into Xia Yi’s hands.
“Please accept this, Miss Xia Yi. It’s a one-of-a-kind, worldwide limited edition!”
When Xia Yi saw the message he wrote, she nearly couldn’t stop herself from ripping the comic to shreds on the spot.
> “To Miss Xia Yi, the Sword Saint’s most devoted fan among humans—may you be just like the great Sword Saint in The Legend of the Sword Saint!”
“Just like the protagonist in The Legend of the Sword Saint? I’m so happy! So thrilled! Ahahaha…”
That’s what Xia Yi said on the outside. But inside, she was already planning to burn the comic the moment she got back!
“Glad you like it, Miss Xia Yi, haha!”
George laughed heartily—still as thick-skinned and oblivious as ever.
“George, why’d you come back all of a sudden?” Martha asked.
“Martha-sensei, the publisher needed me to come to the Rhine Kingdom to do a promotional tour for the comic. Once the event was over, I figured I had some spare time, so I came by here for a visit!” George explained. “I also brought some comics for the kids to read. These are my latest works, and the storylines have even been approved by the Schubert family!”
“You came back alone? Where are the others?” Xia Yi asked without thinking.
“The others? Miss Xia Yi, who do you mean?” George gave her a strange look.
Xia Yi suddenly realized—she’d slipped again.
Crap! Being back at the Spring Breeze Orphanage, seeing her childhood playmates and Sister Martha again—she had let her guard down.
“Oh, it’s nothing, I was just asking casually. Like your fellow classmates from back then…”
“Oh, them? They’re all busy. Everyone’s schedules rarely line up. Some people, we can’t even get in touch with anymore.”
As he spoke, George looked a little downcast.
“Sigh… Like one of my childhood friends. He taught himself swordsmanship, said he wanted to protect everyone. But after being adopted by a noble family, he just… disappeared.”
Xia Yi knew exactly who he was talking about.
In fact, she was standing right in front of him—yet unable to say a word.
Because the Schubert family wanted to hide Leit’s origins, no one at the Spring Breeze Orphanage knew that the noble family who adopted her was the Schuberts. They also didn’t know that she later became the human Sword Saint.
Their impression of her remained frozen in childhood.
In a strange way, George becoming a manga artist who chronicled the Sword Saint’s tale… was a weird kind of coincidence.
—
Xia Yi left the Spring Breeze Orphanage first. She met up with the Lawrence family attendants who had come with her, told them she would be staying overnight, and asked them to find a place to stay and prepare to head back the next day.
After handling all of that, she returned to the Spring Breeze Orphanage. It was nearly dinnertime by then.
“Miss Xia Yi, you’re back?” Martha came out to greet her.
“Yes. I’ve already spoken to the family attendants—I’ll be staying here tonight,” Xia Yi replied.
“Miss Xia Yi, look, I made some osmanthus cakes. I just finished them myself.”
Martha brought out a box of osmanthus cakes.
Immediately, Xia Yi’s eyes lit up. In that moment, her world was filled with nothing but osmanthus cake.
“Please try one.”
Xia Yi’s hand trembled slightly as she took the box. A faint, unique fragrance of osmanthus wafted out.
Though it had been many years since she’d last tasted the osmanthus cakes of Spring Breeze Orphanage—even back in her time as the human Sword Saint—just smelling it now triggered a flood of memories in her body.
She picked one up and gently took a bite.
Soft, fragrant, not overly sweet.
Exactly the same as before. Her absolute favorite taste back then.
“Miss Xia Yi, are you alright?” Martha asked in surprise.
“What is it?”
“You’re crying.”
“Huh?”
Only then did Xia Yi realize that she had been so lost in the nostalgic taste that she’d started crying.
So embarrassing! Am I really this sentimental?
“My eyes were… just a little irritated earlier. Sorry, Sister Martha—how embarrassing.”
Feeling flustered, Xia Yi turned away and quickly wiped away her tears, feeling a bit awkward.
“…”
Martha watched Xia Yi’s back and fell silent.
“Sister Martha, your baking is honestly better than I expected.”
Xia Yi recomposed herself and faced Martha again.
“Luckily, I made extra osmanthus cakes. If you don’t mind, feel free to take some with you when you leave.”
“Mind? Not at all. In fact, I—”
Xia Yi caught herself mid-sentence, forcibly swallowed the rest, and changed her words:
“I mean, the osmanthus cakes taste… pretty good.”
“Thank you for the compliment, Miss Xia Yi.” Martha smiled warmly.
—
“Milady, why did you purposely take a detour just to come to this city? If we’re late returning, the family might get angry.”
“…”
“Milady?”
“It’s nothing. I just wanted… to visit a place called Spring Breeze Orphanage. That’s all.”
