Volume 3 + Chapter 111: The Pouty Fox Carrot
On her way back, Xia Yi spotted Hill.
She remembered that her student was part of the Calamity Response Unit and had previously mentioned investigating the witch, which was why she patrolled at night.
Thinking this, Xia Yi proactively called out, “Teacher Hill?”
“…Ah?!”
Hearing Xia Yi’s voice, Hill seemed startled.
“Teacher Hill, what a coincidence running into you here,” Xia Yi cheerfully approached. “Teacher Hill, you’re not resting tonight either?”
“I…”
Faced with Xia Yi’s question, Hill averted her gaze, her demeanor evasive.
Huh?
Xia Yi was confused.
Why was Hill acting like this?
Had she done something to upset her student…?
No way!
She thought hard but couldn’t recall ever making Hill angry.
Why had her student’s attitude toward her become so strange?
“Teacher Hill, what’s wrong?”
The innocent-looking black-haired loli tilted her head in puzzlement, stepping closer again.
“…!!”
Seeing this, Hill retreated several steps, more shaken than ever.
She couldn’t reconcile this clueless-looking loli with her dignified, authoritative teacher.
Is Xia Yi really my teacher?
This doubt swirled relentlessly in Hill’s mind.
Before, she would never have believed it possible. But after witnessing Xia Yi’s extraordinary swordsmanship firsthand, maintaining that disbelief had become difficult.
Logically, she should confront Xia Yi right now and demand answers.
Yet Hill hesitated.
She wasn’t even sure she wanted confirmation.
If Xia Yi really is my teacher, returned from the dead… how should I face her?
Memories from childhood surfaced.
She used to follow her teacher everywhere, declaring her admiration, even vowing to marry him when she grew up.
Though childish nonsense, it reflected her genuine reverence.
And Hill had always strived to reach that ideal.
But now, her nearly perfect image of her teacher had transformed into…
A girl.
A milk tea-drinking, stubborn, occasionally chuuni, lazy, constantly surrounded by rumors with other girls—loli?!
The thought nearly made Hill’s vision darken. Her thoughts grew increasingly chaotic, making rational thinking impossible.
“Sorry, Xia Yi, I have things to do… I need to go!”
With those final words, Hill fled as if escaping something.
“Teacher Hill, what’s with that troubled look…?”
A bewildered Xia Yi watched Hill’s retreating figure and muttered,
“Maybe she’s been overworking herself lately. The next chance I get, I should remind her not to push too hard.”
—
Back in her dorm…
Gurgle gurgle gurgle.
Her stomach growled fiercely.
“Time to eat! I’m starving~”
The little princess kicked off her shoes haphazardly, not even bothering with slippers, and padded barefoot across the floor to the dining table.
“Ah, as expected, the takeout’s gone cold.”
Squatting, Xia Yi eyed her food with slight disappointment.
Reheating never tasted as good as fresh.
But filling her stomach came first!
She unpacked the takeout, placed it on the table, and used fire magic to reheat it. Soon, steam rose from the revived meal.
“Finally, time to dig in!”
Though she’d eaten some snacks at the social, they hadn’t satisfied her.
As she happily devoured her meal, the hunger pangs gradually eased.
Thud.
The dorm door opened.
Xia Yi looked up to see a pink-haired girl entering—her roommate, the nine-tailed fox princess, Yue Liu.
“You’re back?” Xia Yi asked. “Want some?”
The fox carrot seemed to have much to say but ultimately huffed angrily and turned away. “All you think about is eating!”
“I’m a dragon—big appetite comes naturally. If you’re not eating, I’ll finish it all myself.”
“…I’ve lost my appetite because of you!”
“Huh? I don’t recall seeing you eat anything at the social…” Xia Yi said, puzzled.
This only seemed to anger the little fox further. Her disguise magic flickered, her fluffy ears popping up visibly, nearly bristling.
“Why did you accept that violinist girl’s invitation today? Are you two… close?”
“Not at all. We’ve only met once.”
“O-Only once, and you accepted her invitation?!” The fox’s voice dripped with grievance.
Xia Yi hesitated to explain.
Saphia was a witch who’d mistaken Xia Yi for a fellow witch due to her connection with the Legendary Beasts.
Something told her the Legendary Beasts’ matters were best kept secret.
“And why did that violinist girl suddenly disappear later?” Yue Liu pressed.
“She wasn’t human—she was a witch.”
“A witch?”
“Yeah. Witches have twisted minds—dangerously unstable. She seemed interested in me, so I wanted to figure out why she appeared at the social. That’s why I accepted,” Xia Yi explained. “Anthony’s transformation was her doing.”
“So… that’s how it was…”
The little fox lowered her head, frustration mounting.
Hearing this, her rival did have valid reasons.
“Ah! Fox Carrot, don’t tell me you’re upset because I didn’t accept your dance invitation?” Xia Yi suddenly laughed. “So you’ve been sulking all this time?”
“Y-You…! Damnable Silver Dragon, how dare you laugh?!”
Feeling mocked, the fox stomped her foot in agitation.
“Humiliating me in front of everyone is funny to you?!”
“I really didn’t expect it! How was I supposed to know you’d suddenly invite me during the grand ball?” Xia Yi said innocently. “It was a special circumstance—I couldn’t help it.”
“Hmph!”
Yue Liu refused to engage further. She resolved not to speak to Xia Yi for a whole week.
Horrible creature! No matter what you do, I won’t acknowledge you!!
Having decided this, she turned to retreat to her room.
But then—
Xia Yi stepped in front of her and did something the little fox never anticipated.
With a graceful curtsy, she extended her hand.
“Might the Nine-Tailed Fox Princess, Yue Liu – Gitusezhuoya, honor this Dragon Princess, Xia Yi – Christie, by accepting her invitation for a dance?”
