Volume 2 + Chapter 27: The Era of Ancient Civilization
That was a time even more distant than the Primordial Era.
It could even be called the Era of Ancient Civilization.
Upon a boundless land, the Creator God brought forth all races of the world. With the emergence of the first civilization, the Era of Ancient Civilization began.
The development of the Era of Ancient Civilization proceeded even faster than the Creator God had imagined, and before long, it possessed outstanding technological power.
Technology brought prosperity and confidence to all races, to the point that they even momentarily forgot the existence of the Creator God.
People lost their faith in the Creator God, and even believed themselves to stand above Him, looking down on the divine being who had created the world.
And so, the Creator God grew wrathful.
To punish His creations, He brought down a world-ending flood that submerged the boundless land. The mighty technological civilization, before the true Creator God, was utterly powerless.
Countless lives perished in the flood, and people once again took up faith in the Creator God, pleading for His mercy.
The Creator God deemed the punishment sufficient and chose a path of compassion.
Amidst the great sea, He created a new land, and through the Ark, commanded His emissaries to search for and rescue the remaining lives, placing them upon this new land to give them a chance to begin anew.
It was from that moment that the oceans came into being.
People, once again, on the empty and barren land, began to rebuild civilization.
Time flowed swiftly.
Upon the land, all races once more flourished, multiplied, and established brilliant civilizations.
And once again, people forgot the terror of the Creator God’s wrath, and believed themselves capable of surpassing Him.
Many were no longer content to live only on this land. In order to challenge the authority of the Creator God—or perhaps to take revenge for their ancestors—
All races of the world gathered together, using a common language, and built a tower that reached to the heavens, to ascend to paradise and defeat the Creator God.
Once again, the Creator God was filled with disappointment.
This time, the Creator God brought many calamities upon the land, descending suffering upon this earth, letting disasters destroy civilization, so that the races of the world would have no time to construct the Tower to Heaven.
It was at that time that many magical beasts appeared.
Leviathan was born during that era.
Including Leviathan, there were a total of seven terrifying legendary beasts rampaging across the world, bringing endless death to all races.
Once again, the ancient civilization fell into decline.
Later, the Creator God’s lifespan reached its limit and He perished.
And with no Creator God to maintain the world, disasters became even more dreadful, eventually triggering a new round of world-ending destruction.
Thus, the Era of Ancient Civilization came to an end.
A very, very long time later, intelligent life reappeared in this world. A new civilization once again began to sprout, and only then did the true history of this world begin.
After reading the contents on the mural, Xia Yi was deeply shocked.
In the known history of the current world, there is not a single record of the Era of Ancient Civilization—nor even such a concept.
“Ugh… this is a bit too much information all at once.” Xia Yi clutched her head.
Her entire worldview had just been completely overturned.
The City of Ancient Ruins had been built during the Era of Ancient Civilization.
As for why it was located beyond the oceans of Golde, it was because another great flood had occurred on the land during that era, submerging the original continent.
And by coincidence, this City of Ancient Ruins had been within the flooded area.
What a shame—Xia Yi truly couldn’t understand the writing of the Era of Ancient Civilization.
In truth, there was still much more information above, but due to limited conditions, it was impossible to continue deciphering.
Xia Yi could feel it—these stone slabs and murals embodied the wisdom of the Era of Ancient Civilization, having endured countless ages, and even the destruction of the world itself—
And yet, they were still preserved to this day.
No one knows what methods the ancient civilization used, but even after the destruction of the old world, the murals on the stone slabs continue to update.
Perhaps the civilization of the Era of Ancient Civilization left these behind as a warning for future generations?
“It’s just… there are some suspicious points…”
The legendary beasts are not dead.
When the old world was destroyed, the legendary beasts all fell into slumber.
These old things really are good at surviving!
Though they managed to live on, in the end, they are still remnants of the old world.
The legendary beasts cannot adapt to the new world and can only awaken periodically. Most of the time, they remain in deep sleep.
Leviathan is just like that.
The next part recorded some information about Leviathan.
And this is where the doubt lies.
The last time Leviathan awakened was during Gold’s Age of Great Navigation, which was over a thousand years ago. It was active for a time and left behind legends.
But according to the cycle, Leviathan should currently be in its dormant phase.
Why, then, has it awakened again—entered its active phase—and even joined the Black Tide to attack Golde?
Xia Yi pondered this.
The fact that the legendary beasts of the old world can survive in the new world must be closely tied to maintaining a proper cycle.
Sleep – Awaken – Hunt – Feed – Sleep…
That’s how it goes, a repeated cycle.
After all, they are not creatures of the new world, so naturally they cannot sustain prolonged activity.
If the cycle has been disrupted, then there’s only one possibility: Leviathan was forcibly awakened!
It was supposed to be in its sleep phase now, but someone, driven by human intent, used some method to forcibly rouse it.
And the one behind all this—is connected to the dragon race.
The true nature of the Black Tide is the dragon race’s curse.
Someone forcibly awakened the slumbering legendary beast, and then used the Black Tide—created through the dragon race’s curse—in coordination with Leviathan to harvest the people of Golde.
“If that’s really the case, then this will be much easier to resolve!”
Xia Yi believed there was no need to kill Leviathan. It had merely been used as a tool. Since it was currently in its dormant phase, letting it go back to sleep would be enough.
What needed to be done now was to expose the mastermind behind all of this and destroy whatever methods they were using.
“After Leviathan returned to the City of Ancient Ruins, I remember it went to a place that looked very much like an altar to rest. Could it be that the method used to awaken it was some kind of ritual?”
Suddenly, a few words flashed through Xia Yi’s mind.
They were from her time back in the seaside city, spoken by those mentally unstable people.
Return… ocean… offering… happiness.
And now, this altar, and the Black Tide…
Xia Yi felt she was very close to the truth.
She couldn’t stay here any longer—she had to head to the altar where Leviathan was as quickly as possible. If Hill was still alive and in the City of Ancient Ruins, she could be in grave danger at any moment!
Xia Yi raised her head, looking at the water flowing down like a waterfall above her. She cast a spell.
First, she froze the water, then constructed an ice staircase and leapt upward, returning to the floor of the library.
Night had already fallen. The sky was dark, and the full moon had just risen.
Xia Yi left the library and discovered that the half-dragon monsters in the City of Ancient Ruins were gone—they had all gathered in one place.
The altar.
She hurried there as well.
At the altar, surrounded by seawater, the half-dragon monsters were gathered together, performing acts of worship toward the center.
At some point, atop the altar above Leviathan, a black coffin had appeared.
And within Xia Yi’s body, the blood of the Silver Dragon royal lineage began to resonate with the black coffin.
