Volume 2 + Chapter 20: The Siren’s Song
During Golde’s Age of Exploration, there was a legend.
It was said that in the depths of the ocean slumbered a colossal beast known as Leviathan.
Leviathan was unimaginably vast—even the largest ship in Golde would seem like a mere toy before it, utterly defenseless.
Its scales were impervious to any weapon, and its fangs could tear apart all life in this world, even the mightiest of the highborn races.
When it awoke, its fury would sweep across the seas. Like a wrathful god, it would reign over the waves, slaughtering all who defied it.
Yet, no one had ever seen Leviathan.
Just like the legends of El Dorado, people believed Leviathan was nothing more than a myth—no one truly thought it existed.
But now, standing before Xia Yi, was the living legend itself.
She finally understood why her draconic instincts had been screaming at her to flee.
And Serra, too, could sense the overwhelming danger.
Leviathan was the Black Tide. Those half-dragon monstrosities were likely nothing more than its scouts.
Under normal circumstances, these scouts alone could effortlessly wipe out any city in Golde—there was no need for Leviathan itself to take action.
Frankly, the mere fact that these “scouts” existed at all was terrifying. If this nation could resist them, it would be nothing short of a miracle.
But today was different.
The scouts had failed to breach Seaside City—they had been repelled.
And so…
Leviathan had come.
Its mere emergence had already triggered a tsunami. Towering waves loomed, ready to drown the city beneath the sea.
But Serra, the royal maid, would not stand idly by while her princess was in danger. She soared into the sky, her draconic eyes blazing with light.
She was getting serious.
The crimson dragon opened her maw wide, gathering scorching dragonfire.
Yet instead of releasing it immediately, she compressed it—layer upon layer, over and over, intensifying the flames to an extreme degree.
Watching Serra’s reckless maneuver, Xia Yi grew deeply concerned.
This was playing with fire!
Compressing so many layers of dragonfire like this—if it spiraled out of control, the backlash would be inevitable. Serra would be consumed by her own flames in an instant, not even her bones left behind.
No elite dragon guard would ever dare to attempt something so reckless.
Yet Serra dared.
She compressed multiple waves of dragonfire to their absolute limit and unleashed them against the sky-obscuring tsunami, forming a colossal curtain of flames.
The fire seemed to engulf the entire world. The night was set ablaze, the rain evaporated into steam under the scorching heat, and the air itself turned into a hazy white expanse.
The wall of flames clashed head-on with the tsunami summoned by Leviathan.
BOOM!!
Fire and water collided, triggering a devastating shockwave. The superheated winds made the sea boil once more.
The corpses of the half-dragon monsters melted away in the blast.
Even though she wasn’t on the front lines, Xia Yi had to summon an ice barrier to withstand the aftershocks—she even threw one over Albert for good measure.
The clash of fire and water raged for a full half-minute before finally subsiding.
The first confrontation between the Crimson Dragon and Leviathan ended in a draw.
Serra’s flames had burned away the tsunami, protecting Seaside City.
“…Incredible.” Xia Yi couldn’t help but murmur in awe.
“Hah… Hah…”
Serra hovered in the sky, her wings beating heavily, exhaustion already creeping into her movements. That last attack had drained her severely.
“Serra?! Are you okay?!”
“……”
Hearing her princess’s voice, Serra glanced down at the shore.
As expected, Her Highness is strong—she’s unharmed.
She pondered.
The situation had indeed spiraled beyond control.
Who could have predicted that a legendary beast would appear here?
Fighting it alone was far too reckless.
If the battle continued, the princess would inevitably be dragged into the fray.
As a royal maid, her duty was clear—to act in defense of the royal family. Protecting Xia Yi, the Silver Dragon Princess, was Serra’s greatest mission.
The Crimson Dragon’s gaze hardened with resolve. Without another word to Xia Yi, she flew straight toward Leviathan.
She would become the royal family’s unbreakable shield.
“Serra! Serra!!”
Seeing this, Xia Yi was now truly frantic.
“Serra, come back! It’s too dangerous alone—let me fight with you! I have the Holy Sword!”
But Serra paid no heed to her princess’s command.
In her desperation, she even considered transforming into her true dragon form to chase after Serra.
But reason held her back.
As the former Sword Saint of humanity, she understood all too well how a burden in battle could shackle a warrior’s movements. She had experienced it herself—facing a formidable enemy while protecting weaker allies, a battle that had nearly cost her life.
If she flew over now, she would only become Leviathan’s target. And her true dragon form… was, well…
“Damn it!”
Frustration burned in Xia Yi’s eyes.
The Crimson Dragon had reached Leviathan’s domain, now locked in fierce combat with the beast.
Even a fully grown dragon like Serra seemed minuscule before Leviathan’s colossal form.
Just how massive is this thing?!
Xia Yi couldn’t even see where Leviathan’s head was.
Against such a legendary beast, even a dragon had to rely on agility. Serra dodged its attacks while relentlessly spewing flames at its body.
This only enraged Leviathan further.
It almost seemed intentional—as if Serra was deliberately drawing its ire, luring it away from the city and into the depths of the sea.
The figures of the Crimson Dragon and Leviathan grew smaller and smaller in Xia Yi’s vision.
“…No. I can’t just stay here. I have to follow—keeping a safe distance, but not letting Serra fight alone!”
She steeled herself, preparing to shift into her dragon form—
Then she heard laughter.
A girl stood in the water, smiling at her.
Xia Yi recognized her instantly.
It was the mysterious girl she had seen on her first night in Seaside City.
This time, the girl didn’t flee. She stood before Xia Yi, close enough for every detail to be unmistakable.
Her hair cascaded down her entire body, impossibly long, trailing into the water. Her face was beautiful yet eerie, her lower body resembling that of a fish—no legs, only a tail. Most striking were her arms, shaped like wings, though they seemed incapable of flight.
A Siren.
The word flashed through Xia Yi’s mind, but she had no time to dwell on it—she needed to chase after Serra.
The Siren, however, clearly intended to keep her here. She parted her lips and unleashed her voice—a melody so enchanting it was intoxicating.
At such close range, the moment the song reached Xia Yi’s ears, her vision blurred. She felt herself plummeting into the sea.
A dream of the ocean.
The little princess was wrapped in the warm embrace of the water, lulled by the ethereal singing as she sank deeper into the abyss.
……
……
……
“Little silver dragon~ Wake up~” A playful voice whispered. “If you don’t wake up soon… I might just start nibbling on you~”
