Volume 2 + Chapter 120: Gold
This was a sheet of paper.
What was written on it made the Shadow King feel shocked.
“This is an offer you can’t refuse, isn’t it, Shadow King?” Xia Yi said with a smile.
The Shadow King fell silent.
What was written was related to the City Security Corps.
The Dragon Royal Family intended to reorganize the Corolle City Security Corps. The new formation of the Security Corps would no longer be under the control of the newly-risen nobles and their new Merchant Guild, but would instead have its personnel appointed directly by the Dragon Royal Family.
Moreover, the royal family had promised that a portion of the Security Corps’ positions would be given to the Shadow King from Corolle’s lower district.
In other words, if the Shadow King was willing, he could assign dragons from the lower district to enter the City Security Corps—thus changing the fate of the lower district.
Promises made by the Dragon Royal Family stood above all else. They superseded the rising nobility and carried unquestionable legitimacy.
This was something the Shadow King had never even dared to dream of—something he had long yearned for.
“No way… that can’t be true!”
That was the root of the Shadow King’s shaken resolve. Though he wanted it, this seemed no different from a dream.
The southern border was so far from the northern imperial capital, and dragons here had no chance of interacting with the royal family. No one had ever imagined the royal dragons would bother saving Corolle.
His eyes quickly scanned downward to the signature on the document—
Silver Dragon Princess, Xia Yi · Christie.
The Shadow King’s hands began to tremble. He looked again at Xia Yi, his breathing growing ragged.
“You… you’re a princess of the Dragon Royal Family?!”
“In the Dragon Kingdom, there are only two people who may act in the name of the royal family—and I just happen to be one of them,” Xia Yi replied.
“I don’t believe it! A princess of the Dragon Royal Family could never have come to Corolle. All communication channels here have been sealed—there’s no way the royals could know what’s going on here!”
“The Cavendish family bowed before me—you know what that means, don’t you?” Xia Yi said lightly. “If you want, I can give Lucius Cavendish a direct order and force him to kneel to prove it. But of course, you’ll have to bear the brunt of his wrath afterward, Shadow King.”
The Shadow King knew. The Cavendish family was nothing like the new nobility. Their family had once received recognition from the Dragon Royal Family. They were a traditional noble house that upheld honor.
To force the Cavendish to kneel—only royalty could do that.
“You… really are… Her Highness the Princess?”
“Even if you haven’t seen me, you’ve at least seen Xia Lulu, haven’t you?”
“Apologies. Due to laws set by the new nobles, no one is allowed to possess any portraits of Her Majesty the Queen in their homes. This is to prevent any potential acts of disrespect toward the royal family. Moreover, regarding the hero Frey—”
The Shadow King didn’t continue. He stood up and bowed deeply.
“If you are truly Her Highness, please forgive my earlier disrespect.”
To the impoverished of Corolle, they had long since sunk into despair. The Dragon Royal Family was their final and best card.
Revealing this identity was a checkmate.
There was no room left for choices.
“Shadow King, what is your answer? I speak now on behalf of the Dragon Royal Family. I am extremely dissatisfied with the rising nobles and have resolved to purge them. I want to liberate the dragons of the lower district—not just give them charity.”
“Not… charity.”
The Shadow King savored those words.
In the southern borderlands, everyone revered the hero Frey, and believed the Silver Dragon Queen to be a despicable schemer.
The dragons in the lower district had grown up hearing these things.
Yet that faith in Frey could not change their fate—it could not save their reality.
And now, it was the Dragon Royal Family extending a hand to help…
If he led the dragons of the lower district to truly overthrow the new nobility alongside this princess, and their promises were kept—everything would change.
This once-defeated rebel had waited far too long for a chance like this.
He knelt.
“Your Highness… please allow me to follow you.”
“Is that your decision?”
“Yes. I wish to fight under your banner, to liberate the dragons of the lower district,” the Shadow King said solemnly. “I choose you—not some distant, illusory hero.”
“Of course you may, Shadow King.”
“Your Highness… please don’t call me that. Just call me by my name.”
“And what is your name?”
“Jin. Like the others, you can simply call me Ajin.”
“Very well, Ajin. I respect your wishes. Stand,” Xia Yi said with a smile. “My promises will be fulfilled once we overthrow the rising nobility. But for now, address me as Twilight. I came to Corolle without the royal army, concealing my identity. Besides the Cavendish family, you are the only dragon who knows who I truly am.”
“I understand. I’m deeply honored, Miss Twilight.”
Ajin was visibly moved, the light of hope rekindling in his eyes.
“You used to be the leader of the resistance, right?” Xia Yi asked.
“Yes.”
Ajin nodded, his expression heavy with memory.
“I once led the impoverished dragons of the lower district in rebellion against the rising nobility. But we failed. Our strength was too far beneath that of the City Security Corps. My comrade took the blame and punishment for me so I could escape… After that, I gave up on those dreams—until now.”
“Can your influence still rally the dragons of the lower district?”
“Absolutely. If I spark a new incident, reveal myself once more as the leader of the former resistance and as the Shadow King, the entire lower district will rally to my cause.
“And what’s more—many members of the old law enforcement squad, who were replaced by the current Security Corps, still live in hiding in the lower district. They’re experienced fighters who were betrayed by the rising nobles and hold deep hatred for them. They could be powerful allies.”
“Now that is inspiring news, Ajin.”
Xia Yi was surprised—Ajin had more cards to play.
And now, her objectives were fully met.
The little princess was ready to play her hand.

Corolle – New Merchant Guild Headquarters
All the rising nobles received a command today:
An emergency meeting was to be held, and every family head was required to attend.
The new nobles were puzzled. The order had been marked with the highest level of urgency—something only the Guildmaster himself could issue.
Naturally, all eyes turned to the Guildmaster—the head of House Elvin.
Arland Elvin stood in the gaze of the crowd, and spoke:
“Gentlemen, Corolle is undergoing a monumental shift. Do you realize that the future of our New Merchant Guild now hangs on the brink of ruin?”
The nobles murmured amongst themselves, confused.
What on earth was going on?
No one in this city had ever threatened the Merchant Guild before.
And yet, this was the first time anyone had seen Guildmaster Arland speak so gravely.
“I have one piece of good news… and one piece of bad news. Which would you like to hear first?” Arland said.
