Volume 2 + Chapter 111: Convinced
A request that could cost me my life?
Xia Yi was genuinely curious.
What could it possibly be?
“Speak, Chen Tie,” she said.
Chen Tie’s expression was grave. “Fight me in the Dragon way.”
“A battle?”
“Yes. No matter what arguments you make to persuade me, deep down, I just can’t fully accept them. But if you want to earn my trust, there’s a simple way—show me your strength.”
Chen Tie glanced at Serra.
“No help from anyone else. Just you and me, a real fight. Prove you have what it takes to change everything. Otherwise, I’ll see you as nothing more than empty talk!”
“Oh, I’m fine with that,” Xia Yi agreed.
This was very much in line with Dragonkin sensibilities—the belief that strength was everything.
“Don’t agree so casually! This isn’t some child’s game. No one is allowed to interfere in our duel. Anything could happen—including death!” Chen Tie warned.
“I’m taking this seriously, Chen Tie. I appreciate your straightforwardness, that’s why I agreed so easily,” Xia Yi replied. “Or are you going to disappoint me?”
“Hmph. As long as you’re prepared, then fine. What do I call you?”
“Twilight.”
“Got it. Twilight. Follow me.”
Chen Tie turned and led the way, motioning for Xia Yi and Serra to follow.
As they stepped out of the room, members of the Cangqing Gang saw their leader bringing two supposed enemies down toward the training grounds, and were shocked.
Once there, Chen Tie and Xia Yi faced each other while Serra stepped back behind the red line, standing among the other Cangqing members as a spectator.
“What’s the boss doing with that silver-haired dragon girl?”
“Is this a duel?”
“Are they serious?”
The members buzzed with confusion.
Chen Tie himself wasn’t entirely sure either.
When he’d first made the request, it had been more of a bluff—he hoped to scare Xia Yi off so he could think more clearly.
But she had agreed without hesitation.
And Serra, standing aside, didn’t even seem inclined to intervene.
That made Chen Tie even more irritated.
Sure, he couldn’t beat Serra. She was the sister of the gang’s legendary boss Ember, and she’d beaten him plenty of times before.
But that didn’t mean this baby dragon could look down on him too!
He’d heard his boys say this “Twilight” was impressive, but really? Enough to walk all over him?
“Aren’t you going to explain things to your people?” Xia Yi asked.
“No need. They’ll see with their own eyes. All we have to do is prove it to them.”
Chen Tie waved the question off. “What weapon will you use?”
“I used magic last time, so… I’ll use swordsmanship this time.”
Her casual tone—as if she were choosing between vanilla and chocolate ice cream—only made Chen Tie angrier.
This was a life-or-death battle, not some game!!
He couldn’t feel even a shred of seriousness from her.
Magic one second, swordplay the next—what, does she think she’s some dual-talented prodigy!?
“Where’s your weapon?” he asked.
“I don’t carry one when I go out. I usually just grab whatever feels right… oh, that one looks good. I can use it as a sword!”
She pointed toward a corner.
Chen Tie followed her gaze—and almost exploded.
It was a broom.
Are you kidding me? A broom?! That’s a weapon?! Where’s your common sense!?
He was already regretting even entertaining this. Was he a fool for taking her seriously?
Suppressing his fury, he shouted, “Bring a sword!!”
“Yes, boss!”
A gang member fetched an iron sword and brought it to the arena.
“What do you think? Is this one okay?”
“Hmm, I think they’re all about the same… but the broom looks more fun…”
“Since they’re all the same, then we’re going with this one!!” Chen Tie barked, deciding for her.
“Alright then.”
Xia Yi accepted the iron sword.
Chen Tie was nearly beside himself with rage. He couldn’t take it anymore. He was going to smash this cheeky white-haired brat flat.
“Any rules?” Xia Yi asked.
“Only two: make me yield, and no outside interference. Go all out—if you’re strong enough, you can even kill me,” Chen Tie said coldly. “Last warning—walk away now while you still can. Once it starts, I won’t hold back.”
“Understood.”
Xia Yi raised the sword.
“Let’s begin, leader of the Cangqing Gang—Chen Tie.”
“RAHHHH!!”
Chen Tie unleashed his bottled fury. His hair bristled, his body swelled.
He whipped his chains against the ground with enough force to shake the entire arena.
The chains shot up and coiled around his arms like a meat grinder, then lashed toward Xia Yi.
“Stonebreaking Shock!!” he roared, unleashing his battle art.
Not even the gang’s senior members could survive a direct hit, much less a young dragon girl.
But the petite Xia Yi didn’t dodge—she advanced.
She swung the iron sword and met the chains head-on, metal clashing violently with metal.
She stopped the blow and struck back with overwhelming sword pressure, forcing Chen Tie backward.
“What the hell?!”
Chen Tie couldn’t believe it.
In that instant, his understanding of Xia Yi changed.
She was dangerous.
Boom!!
Xia Yi’s sword aura shattered the chains.
A flash of silver—like a falling star—shot toward his heart.
Chen Tie quickly crossed his arms to block.
With a sharp clang, he managed to stop the strike.
“Almost lost there—”
Before he could finish, three more sword auras came flying at him.
He couldn’t defend in time.
“Four-Strike Flash.”
Three simultaneous sword slashes struck him, shattering the chains, slicing through dragon scales, drawing blood—and sent him flying.
“Urgh…!”
Chen Tie groaned, trying to rise—only to find Xia Yi’s blade tip already aimed at him.
“It’s over,” she said.
Chen Tie stared up at her in disbelief.
She’d held back.
If she’d aimed for his vital spots, he’d be dead or half-dead by now.
He hadn’t even seen her true power.
The bitterness in his heart dissolved.
“Her Highness the Princess is… truly incredible,”
Serra thought happily as she watched—but then glanced around, sensing that things in the arena were starting to take a strange turn.
