Volume 2 + Chapter 107: A Chance For You
Thousand Kills still thought that Xia Yi was just trying to scare her.
She looked toward Xia Yi.
The silver-haired loli was glaring at her viciously, so fierce it was like she was about to eat someone alive.
This is bad—why aren’t you following the script?!
Thousand Kills had only wanted to act a little reserved. According to how these situations usually go, wasn’t the other side supposed to start negotiating with her?
But now, they weren’t even trying to talk—just directly sending her to the afterlife.
No, no way. She must be bluffing. Just trying to scare her.
She tried hard to stay calm, telling herself this little loli was only saying that out of anger. The other two would never actually agree to it.
That red dragon girl looked like a mature, reliable adult. Surely she would think calmly—there was no way she’d go along with a brat’s angry outburst.
And then there was the leader of the Hechi Gang. He’d been active in Corolle’s underworld for years. He knew the value of information. There’s no way he’d just kill her without even asking questions.
Yeah…
That must be it.
Thousand Kills tried to keep her cool.
But Jiye stood up and directly pinned her to the ground.
“I understand, Miss Twilight. If she’s hell-bent on it, then we’ll give her what she wants.”
There was clear killing intent in Jiye’s voice—this wasn’t a joke.
Thousand Kills had dealt with plenty of gangsters. She could tell the difference between a threat and someone who was serious.
She was stunned.
You—leader of the Hechi Gang—what are you doing!? Are you seriously going to kill me just to make that little dragon happy? Not even going to interrogate me first!?
Jiye pulled out a dagger. Under the lamplight, the blade glinted coldly. Just as it was about to come down—
“Wait a moment!”
“Boss lady?”
Jiye froze, the dagger suspended in midair. He turned in confusion to look at Serra.
“Stop. Put the knife away,” Serra ordered.
Jiye had no choice but to obey.
A smile broke out across Thousand Kills’s face.
Thank goodness—I’m saved.
I knew it. That red dragon is calm and rational, not impulsive like the other two. She’ll definitely want to talk things through properly—
“Killing her outright would be letting her off too easy,” Serra said mercilessly. “She ruined the young lady’s favorite purse. That deserves a far more severe punishment. First, keep her conscious, and then slice off her tail little by little with a small knife. After that, stuff it into her mouth.”
“Boss lady, that makes a lot of sense.”
Jiye nodded in agreement and respectfully handed the dagger over to Serra.
Hearing the clicking of high heels against the floor growing closer, Thousand Kills began to tremble.
Since her debut, she had never encountered such terrifying dragons. The oppressive aura Serra emitted when angry was so overwhelming, even a legendary assassin with a so-called 1000% success rate couldn’t breathe.
“Waaaah! Don’t kill me! I admit it—I was just speaking a little loudly earlier! I only wanted to save a bit of face! Waaaah! I surrender!”
Thousand Kills started rolling on the ground, throwing all dignity to the wind.
If she died, none of it would matter.
“You’re the top assassin in Corolle. How can you surrender so easily?!” Jiye scolded. “Show some backbone!”
Thousand Kills glanced at the murderous-looking Serra. You easy for you to say—you’re not the one facing death!
“I was just talking tough! I don’t want to die! Spare me, I’ll tell you everything I know!”
“You really don’t want to tough it out even a little?” Serra asked.
“No, no! Thank you, but no thank you!” Thousand Kills shook her head furiously, like a rattling drum.
Serra looked genuinely disappointed.
“Thousand Kills,” Xia Yi spoke, “it’s not that we need your intel and are making a deal to spare you.”
“It’s that you are willingly offering up your information. Understand?”
“Yes—yes!”
Thousand Kills gritted her teeth and agreed.
She really had no choice now. She never imagined the day would come when she’d have to sell out her employer…
“I was hired by the Elvin family. They told me to kill you by any means necessary,” Thousand Kills said to Xia Yi. “They paid me a huge deposit—more than I’ve ever gotten for a job. They also promised three times that amount if I completed the task!”
“The Elvin family?”
Jiye was shocked to learn it was one of the rising noble families behind this.
After all, he didn’t know much about them.
But Serra and Xia Yi were less surprised. After entering Corolle, the only two factions they’d clashed with were the Elvin family and the Cangqing Gang.
What was strange, though, was—why target Xia Yi and not Serra?
Serra asked, “Was I one of the assassination targets?”
“No. The Elvin family didn’t mention you. Only her—Miss Twilight,” Thousand Kills answered truthfully.
“What was the reason?”
“I have no idea. I just take the money and do the job. We never ask why the client wants someone dead. All that matters is completing the task and getting paid.”
Thousand Kills really said everything she could.
“Did you do something to offend the Elvin family? They’re a powerful new noble house. Not people to mess with.”
“Not me—only the young lady. This is… why?” Serra couldn’t understand.
Xia Yi couldn’t either.
During the incident at the Ascension Casino, Serra had been the main player. Xia Yi had mostly just been a spectator. Why would the Elvin family fix their sights on her?
Hiring a top-tier assassin, paying a fortune, just to end her life.
Could it be…
Has her identity as a dragon royal been exposed? If the rising nobles realized the royal family had found out about their activities in Corolle, they’d face annihilation. Maybe they were trying to act preemptively?
But Xia Yi still felt like something was off—it couldn’t be just that.
“What exactly is the Elvin family scheming? Did we interfere with some secret plan of theirs? But no—that decision was only made this afternoon. The assassin was sent long before that…”
Jiye still looked like an outsider to all this. He didn’t know Xia Yi and Serra’s true identities and was clearly confused.
“Now can you let me go?! I’ve told you everything!” Thousand Kills shouted.
Serra and Jiye both turned to look at Xia Yi.
This decision was hers to make.
“Serra, Jiye. Step outside. I want to talk with her alone,” Xia Yi said.
“Young lady?” Serra looked concerned.
“It’s fine. Just wait outside—I know what I’m doing.”
“…Alright.”
Serra nodded and left the room with Jiye.
Now, only Xia Yi and Thousand Kills remained.
Xia Yi said nothing. She just stared at Thousand Kills in silence, the air between them frozen solid.
Thousand Kills actually started to panic.
“You want to live, right?”
A smirk tugged at the corner of Xia Yi’s lips—her expression looked utterly villainous.
She walked up to Thousand Kills and did something shocking.
She lifted her tiny foot…
…and stepped on Thousand Kills’ face.
“Now, I’m giving you a chance.”
