Volume 2 + Chapter 101: Codename
Xia Yi was really, truly curious.
Serra’s behavior and way of handling things in the past were totally different from how she was now—she used to be much more arrogant than now—so the codename she once gave herself must be very interesting!
She looked at Jiye expectantly, waiting for him to reveal Serra’s old secret.
But Serra’s expression turned murderous.
Her hand landed on Jiye’s shoulder, forcibly cutting him off.
“Ah!!!”
Jiye let out a miserable scream. He felt as if his shoulder was going to be crushed—an overwhelming force took control of him.
When he looked back, Big Sis’s face looked absolutely terrifying, dark as night, as if she was about to swallow him whole.
Could it be that Big Sis didn’t want her past to be revealed in front of Miss Xia Yi?
“Big Sis’s old codename, I, I… forgot!!” Jiye shouted.
“Forgot? No way!” Xia Yi couldn’t accept that. “Jiye, you admire Serra so much—how could you possibly forget something that important?”
“Of course I admire Big Sis the most! I remember everything about her—ahhh!!”
Jiye’s face twisted in pain.
Because Serra’s hand pressed down harder.
This was a warning.
He had a feeling that if he really said Big Sis’s former codename, he might not live past the next three seconds. He’d die horribly. So he forcibly changed his tune:
“Miss Xia Yi, I’m sorry, I really forgot. I accidentally fell the other day and hit my head on the edge of a table. I lost my memory—just happened to forget that part!”
“Jiye, if you’re being threatened, just blink.”
“No no, Miss Xia Yi, I’m not being threatened at all, hahaha!” Jiye absolutely refused to admit it.
Driven by a desire to survive, he gave in.
Serra removed her hand from Jiye’s shoulder, and the killing intent in her eyes faded, as if saying “Well done, Xiao Ye.” Jiye finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Xia Yi could clearly tell that Serra really didn’t want her to know about her past… even though it seemed like such a fun story!
“Why is the young miss unhappy?” Serra asked knowingly.
“Serra, I want to come up with a good codename for myself, but I have no inspiration. If you keep hiding stuff like this, I won’t have anything to use as a reference!” Xia Yi pouted.
“If you’re looking for inspiration, how about I tell you Lucia’s old codename instead?” Serra smiled. “That was the codename of the former legendary boss of the Cangqing Gang, you know.”
Wow, this Serra is really bad! She refuses to talk about her own codename, yet casually spills the beans on her older sister’s old alias.
No way that wasn’t personal. Xia Yi didn’t believe it.
But still…
She was very curious!
After all, that silent and expressionless maid was once the head of a gang too.
Thinking about it like that—it’s such a surprising contrast.
“Serra, tell me, quick!”
“When Lucia was active in gang operations, the codename she used was—Ashes.”
“Ashes? So cool!” Xia Yi marveled. “I never expected that! Lucia actually picked such a badass codename for herself!”
“Yup. Even though my sister always has that unreadable poker face, back in the day, she really cared about building her cold and cool persona. She did everything she could to look as cool as possible—down to the codename.”
Serra cheerfully continued exposing her sister’s dark history.
At this point, Jiye couldn’t help but chime in from the side, “Big Sis’s codename, compared to Ashes, was even more—”
“Hm?”
Lucia glanced at Jiye.
Jiye was so terrified he immediately shut up. He quickly grabbed a newspaper from the table and held it up in front of his face, pretending to read—even holding it upside down without noticing.
“Hmm… I’ve got it! I know what codename I want now!”
With the reference, Xia Yi thought for a moment and came up with a pretty good one.
“Twilight!”
“That’s an unexpectedly decent codename,” Serra commented.
“I think it sounds great too!” Jiye gave his own opinion.
“Heh heh, then it’s decided. From now on, I’m Twilight. I’ll use this codename when I act.”
Xia Yi felt a strange sense of novelty now.
This was a first for her.
The title of Sword Saint of the human race had been something others gave her.
She had never chosen a name or title for herself—not even her actual name, which had been decided by the Schubert family.
“So Miss Xia Yi—no, Miss Twilight—what are your next plans?”
Jiye picked up on the shift and immediately updated how he addressed her.
“Let me think…”
Xia Yi pondered for a moment.
“Before making any further plans, I want to understand the current power dynamics in Corolle—the number of gangs, strength of each faction, territory distribution… everything, as detailed as possible!”
Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will never be defeated in a hundred battles.
Xia Yi believed that intelligence was very important. With the Hechi Gang’s many years of operations in Corolle, they must have an information network.
“No problem. Leave that to me. I’ll have people gather and organize all the intel and documents.”
Jiye accepted the mission, then looked at Serra.
“Big Sis, you might need to come with me next.”
“What is it?”
“To meet with some of the Hechi Gang elders. Since I’ve decided to fully support Miss Twilight, I have to get the whole gang machinery running. We can’t allow any breakdowns in the chain of command, so I have to notify the elders,” Jiye explained. “Most of them are former members—if Big Sis shows up, they’ll probably support us without question. And if anyone disagrees, we can just give them a little warning!”
“So it’s something that minor? No problem.”
Serra responded calmly. Clearly, this kind of thing was nothing to her.
“Young Miss, I need to go with Xiao Ye for a bit to handle these matters. You stay here for now.”
“Alright, go on, Serra. I’ll wait for you to come back!” Xia Yi nodded.
…
Serra and Jiye left together.
Before leaving, Serra even locked the room—clearly unwilling to let Xia Yi see her black history. Hmph, how stingy~!
Xia Yi stayed in the base and waited for them to return.
According to Jiye, he’d already spoken with the people here, so Xia Yi was free to move around. If she got bored, she could hang out in the recreation room.
The so-called “recreation room” was just where gang members did their usual leisure activities—card games, smoking, gambling, drinking… which Xia Yi had no interest in.
So she wandered around the Hechi Gang’s base several times on her own, chatting with a few members in an attempt to gather intel.
Unfortunately, most of the members were new and didn’t know much about Serra. No juicy info to be found.
It was already nighttime.
Xia Yi stood at the base’s front entrance, idly gazing out at the night view as she waited.
“Serra still isn’t back. I wonder if she’s run into some trouble… maybe I’ll take a walk nearby?”
She wasn’t doing anything anyway. Xia Yi casually told the Hechi Gang members that she was going to look around nearby, and left through the main entrance.
…
At the same time, eyes hiding in the dark had finally waited until the target left the Hechi Gang’s base—and alone, at that.
“Target sighted.”
“Estimated assassination success rate—1000%.”
“Preparing to strike.”
