Chapter 50: Soul Resonance, A Beautiful Fairy Tale World
Aside from boosting his endurance, Grandmaster-level paper folding granted Mu Lin two additional advantages.
The first was disguise. His Grandmaster-level craftsmanship allowed ordinary paper figures to mimic his appearance flawlessly, functioning as Substitute Paper Figures (though they couldn’t transfer injuries).
The second was power amplification.
The strength of a paper folder’s creations depended entirely on their visualization. The more fearsome the visualized entity, the more potent the paper figures became.
Currently, Mu Lin’s upper limits were the Yellow Turban Might, the Azure Night Yaksha, and the Black Water Mystic Serpent in its Growth Stage. Thanks to practicing the Black Water Mystic Serpent’s transformation method and repeatedly awakening his bloodline inheritance, he no longer needed a True Meaning Diagram to visualize the serpent—his ancestral memories sufficed.
But reality fell short of imagination. Limited by materials and magical energy, his summoned paper figures only retained 30-50% of the visualized Yellow Turban Might’s power. This was an inherent flaw of the paper folder path.
To compensate, paper folders relied on quantity over quality. Cheap materials allowed mass-producing paper figures for "righteous gang-ups." While better materials, talismans, or formations could boost quality, this raised costs, making swarm tactics impossible. Most paper folders struggled to balance both.
Yet Grandmaster-level skill made Mu Lin an exception. Through Soul Resonance, his paper figures achieved 50-80% of their visualized power without external enhancements. Worse for his enemies, his creations were both stronger and cheaper to produce than average.
"I could probably challenge the tower now…"
"…Better wait. Full preparation means higher floors cleared."
After testing his upgraded paper figures, Mu Lin resumed cultivation. His main body practiced the Black Water Mystic Serpent’s transformation method and Mind Image · City of Heaven’s Funeral.
One clone trained the Paper Figure Curse by targeting Mu Lin himself.
Another worked on constructing Chu Lingluo’s Fairy Tale Garden.
Using Substitute Paper Figures for labor was his solution. But split souls lacked full intelligence—they followed orders but couldn’t answer questions. Training while a clone worked felt disrespectful; Yan Yunyu would’ve protested, which had initially given Mu Lin pause.
Luckily, Chu Lingluo proved gentler. Unexpectedly, she not only tolerated his divided attention but aided his training.
To master the curse, Mu Lin’s clone relentlessly cursed his main body, inevitably injuring him. The upgraded Level 2 Proficiency curse proved too vicious—Mu Lin awoke mid-session, forced to stop.
"My body’s giving out. Need to recover…"
He stared bitterly at his weakened form. Surviving a Level 2 Proficiency curse surprised him.
"Should I curse small animals instead? But that’d slow my progress…"
As he pondered, the softhearted Chu Lingluo gazed at his wounded body. "Master Mu," she ventured, "are you sure you don’t want healing?"
The word "treatment" made Mu Lin’s eyes light up.
"Of course, if it’s not too much trouble, I’d appreciate your help."
"Hehe, it’s no trouble! My Rejuvenation Spell needs wounded people for practice. But I’m scared of pain – I don’t have your resilience, Young Master Mu, and I refuse to harm small animals. Previously, I could only heal injuries and illnesses for free in the city. Now with you as my subject, things will be much simpler."
With a clear voice, Chu Lingluo pressed her palms together in prayer and cast the healing spell—Rejuvenation Spell.
"Hum…"
As the spell’s glow enveloped him, Mu Lin’s wounds began visibly healing.
Soon, his body completely recovered.
This wasn’t the end. Still praying, Chu Lingluo cast two more spells. The first resembled a Purification Spell – its light washed over Mu Lin, dispelling his phantom pain and mental exhaustion.
The final spell restored stamina… Green radiance flooded Mu Lin’s body, replenishing both his energy and vitality.
After these three spells, Mu Lin’s condition returned to peak perfection instantly.
“?!!”
The sheer power of Chu Lingluo’s support skills shocked Mu Lin. For the first time, his gaze toward her burned with intense longing.
‘Such abilities would greatly aid both combat and cultivation. I should recruit her as a teammate.’
‘But would she accept?’
‘The ominous Yin Eight Sect legacy, her commoner origins, Level 3 Spiritual Roots – none make her an ideal candidate.’
After hesitating, Mu Lin held his invitation. He decided to wait until after tower challenges yielded achievements – that might improve his chances.
Their cultivation continued jointly nonetheless.
Mu Lin practiced Mind Image · City of Heaven’s Funeral, Desire Heart Lamp, Black Water Mystic Serpent’s Transformation Method, and Paper Figure Curse.
Chu Lingluo cultivated her wood-element techniques while practicing spells on the injured Mu Lin.
During breaks, they discussed constructing the Fairy Tale Garden.
Grateful for her healing, Mu Lin devoted full effort to this project. He designed a massive Tree City based on his past life’s World Tree concept, embedding numerous castle structures into the colossal tree.
Using Grandmaster-level artistry, Mu Lin blended humanity with nature perfectly. Within the Tree City, he crafted countless endearing creatures – some real, others from classic fantasies: Pikachu, Sylveon, mermaids, swans, and fairy tale princesses…
These creations saturated the World Tree with fairy tale essence.
Soul Resonance transformed this atmosphere into something magical. While crafting, Mu Lin’s intense focus unconsciously channeled memories of past-life fairy tales into his creations through heart intent.
This infusion gave every Tree City inhabitant their own story – not trivial tales, but centuries-old classics:
The Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Girl Who Sells Matches, Snow White and Seven Dwarves, The Little Prince…
Through miraculous Soul Resonance, even ordinary people gazing at the Tree City would eventually see wondrous fairy tales flash before their eyes.
These unique, beautiful stories made every viewing session feel like swimming through oceans of fairy tale worlds for Chu Lingluo.
