Chapter 184: Your Death Star Shines in the Sky
“???”
The sudden attack left Mu Lin stunned. Due to his weakened state, he couldn’t react at all.
Beside him, Yan Yunyu, Bai Li Xiu Ling, and the others froze in shock.
“Who’s there?!”
“Mu brother!”
“Your Highness! Save His Highness!”
Once they recovered, the panicked group quickly formed a circle, trapping both Mu Lin and the attacker at the center.
That’s when they saw her—a short little girl standing behind Mu Lin. The long sword impaling his heart had come from her hand.
Surrounded by enemies, the little girl showed no fear. Instead, her face glowed with twisted delight.
“Giggle~ Big brother, what an entertaining show you gave Huameng!”
“Your battle with the corpse monster made my heart race!”
“Cough…!”
Huameng’s trembling hand jerked the sword still embedded in Mu Lin’s chest. Fresh blood sprayed from his mouth as his heart tore further.
Chu Lingluo’s face twisted in anguish. “You monster! Let Mu brother go!”
Huameng tilted her head, watching Mu Lin choke on his blood. “Oopsie! My hand slipped,” she said with mock innocence. “You’ll forgive little Huameng, won’t you, big brother?”
Her eyes sparkled with cruel amusement even as she twisted the blade deeper, shredding what remained of his heart.
Chu Lingluo lunged forward screaming—only to freeze mid-charge.
Huameng wagged a playful finger. “Naughty~ Attack me and your precious Mu brother becomes mincemeat.”
“You vile…!” Chu Lingluo trembled helplessly.
Yan Yunyu stepped forward calmly. “Release him and we’ll spare you.”
“Hmm…” Huameng tapped her chin theatrically. “Tempting offer!” Her sweet expression turned feral. “But NO!”
Before anyone moved, she yanked her sword sideways.
SCHLICK!
The blade cleaved Mu Lin’s body diagonally from chest to hip. Two bloody halves slumped to the ground.
“?!!”
Chu Lingluo, Yan Yunyu, and Bai Li Xiu Ling stood paralyzed—their minds refusing to comprehend the horror before them.
They couldn’t understand why Huameng acted this way.
“Hehe, confused? Wondering why I ignored your suggestions?”
As she spoke, Huameng flicked her long sword sharply, splattering blood droplets off the blade.
While talking, she stepped from behind Mu Lin to face him directly, meeting the blazing gazes of Yan Yunyu and the others.
“I’ll tell you the answer for free—it’s amusing. Hehe, your helpless fury makes my whole body tremble with delight…”
Her gloating expression and the sight of Mu Lin’s bisected body snapped Chu Lingluo’s last thread of restraint.
With bloodshot eyes, she lunged at Huameng.
“I’ll kill you!”
Channeling all her rage, she unleashed the Tianren Induction Technique—Qingdi Scripture.
“Hum!”
The surrounding vegetation erupted into frenzied growth. Tangling stalks and branches wove together into a colossal wooden puppet.
“Swish!”
The puppet swung its arms, sending a willow whip cracking toward Huameng.
Yet the strike missed.
Huameng didn’t move—the branches themselves curved away from her, as if Chu Lingluo refused to harm her.
“What?!”
The bizarre miss froze even the enraged Chu Lingluo.
“What trickery is this?”
“Hehe… I’ll never tell. But know this—I ignored your pleas partly for amusement, but mostly because you’re no threat to me.”
Huameng’s smile turned venomous. “Your Mu brother died because of your weakness. Had you been stronger, he’d still breathe. Hate yourself for failing him—”
Her taunt shattered as her body exploded like fireworks with a “Boom!”
She reappeared elsewhere, her smug confidence cracking into stunned disbelief.
Since her arrival, Huameng had radiated infuriating control. Now she stared wide-eyed at Mu Lin rising unharmed—his severed body whole again.
“You’re alive?!”
“Impossible! You’re merely Spirit Pool realm! Qi Practitioners at your level shouldn’t survive heart destruction and bisection!”
Mu Lin stood healed, his miraculous recovery stunning both Huameng and the watching crowd.
“What the heck? I knew Qi Practitioners were powerful and lacked weaknesses, but isn’t Mu Lin just at the Spirit Pool stage?”
“Fighting Spirit Sea opponents while at Spirit Pool, surviving a shattered heart—is this guy even human?”
“Honestly, I thought Mu Lin was strong but too arrogant, destined to die young. Now I see I was being narrow-minded. With such abilities, dying young would be hard for him.”
The baffled crowd outside couldn’t grasp how Mu Lin possessed both overwhelming power and terrifying immortality. They reached one conclusion—they must befriend him.
“Geniuses are easier to recruit than powerful beings, but they die too easily.”
“If a genius dies, all your investments vanish like water in a bamboo basket.”
This risk deterred many from backing talents. But Mu Lin changed everything.
His immortality convinced people he’d survive to grow stronger. Wealthy nobles favored him more, while noblewomen grew conflicted. Mu Lin’s repeated displays made them consider marrying their daughters to him. Their glances at Chu Lingluo’s mother turned increasingly odd.
“The heavens spoon-fed the Chu family, yet they kicked the bowl away…”
Above them, the Mountain Elder panicked. Seeing Mu Lin unharmed, he felt control slipping. “Can Mu Lin truly threaten Yuhu Academy alone? Impossible! We still have Blood Cherry!”
“Yes, Blood Cherry will crush him!”
Outside whispers didn’t reach the Tower of Illusions. Mu Lin ignored them, even Huameng’s curiosity, as he reflected bitterly:
“Arrogance made me dismiss others and crush all opposition with brute force—that’s not me!”
“The Heart Lamp of Will warped my mind.”
Huameng’s heart-piercing strike killed him once, but shattered his arrogance too. Feeling the mental flame flicker, Mu Lin sighed in relief.
“This cultivation method’s influence isn’t just my fault.”
He remembered ancient sayings: environment changes people, while true virtue resists corruption. If "unstained by filth" was praised, it proved how easily surroundings could taint.
“Environment shapes character. Cultivation methods—deeper than environment—change us more.”
“The Heart Lamp isn’t dangerous unless I lose control.”
Mu Lin decided: pride could be ambition, but never arrogance. His murderous rage faded. He wouldn’t pursue immediate vengeance—not from mercy, but strategy. The corpse monster battle had weakened him, and frontal assaults weren’t a paper folder’s style.
His smile turned icy. “Huameng? Thanks for waking me up. Let’s play your favorite game—a hunt.”
“Chase and counter-chase. Oh, and your death star shines bright tonight.”
