Chapter 179: Battling the Corpse Monster of the Spirit Sea Realm
The arrival of Corpse Mountain shocked the Merfolk tribe. They immediately leaped out from their water concealment spell and yelled to Mu Lin, “Your Highness, flee! We’ll stop this monster!”
“???”
“Your Highness? What’s going on? Are they talking to me?”
Mu Lin had already detected the Merfolk students hiding nearby through his extraordinary soul. Their weak strength didn’t bother him. Still, he never expected them to suddenly aid him with such reverence.
“Is this a trap?”
Unaware of the Merfolk’s deep respect for the dragon clan, Mu Lin grew suspicious. Ultimately, he decided to ignore it.
“Whatever scheme you have—attack me, and I’ll crush you.”
After muttering, Mu Lin turned his attention to Corpse Mountain. Unlike the panicked Merfolk, he felt no fear, only excitement.
“Perfect chance to test my limits.”
Instead of retreating, Mu Lin clapped his hands together and unleashed his Black Water magical power.
“Hah!”
A torrent of energy erupted, sending ripples through the air.
“Whoosh…”
The ripple stirred fierce winds, drawing moisture from all directions. Dark clouds swiftly gathered above Mu Lin.
“Rumble!”
Within moments, ink-black clouds shrouded the mansion. The oppressive mass loomed overhead, weighing heavily on everyone’s minds.
【Innate Spell: Summon Winds and Rain】
As Mu Lin summoned the clouds, Corpse Mountain charged forward, attacking mid-stride.
“Wuuu…”
Eerie wails echoed as grotesque heads tore free from its body, hurtling toward Mu Lin.
【Flying Heads of the Monster】
Ordinary flying heads were trivial foes to Mu Lin. But these were different.
Horns crowned their crimson skulls; hooked fangs glinted like meat hooks. Some blazed with fire, others oozed a sickly blue-black hue. Each head radiated menace.
Mu Lin didn’t engage immediately. He stomped the ground.
“Bang!” As the ground shattered, Mu Lin’s figure shot skyward like a rocket.
After leaping into the air, he didn’t fall. Instead, the wind seemed to lift him higher.
【Innate Spell: Ride the Clouds and Mist】
In moments, Mu Lin darted into the dark clouds.
Once inside, the water vapor he’d gathered crackled and morphed into a storm of lightning.
With a gesture, Mu Lin hurled bolts from the clouds, striking down at the Flying Heads of the Monster.
“Boom!”
A blinding bolt fell like a godly blade, its pure and potent force instantly reducing one Flying Head to ash.
Seeing his power worked, Mu Lin summoned more lightning, barraging the Flying Heads without pause. He even flung a bolt at Corpse Mountain itself.
“Boom!”
Blinding bolts crashed down one after another. Under the onslaught, the Flying Heads lunging at Mu Lin turned to ash mid-air.
They twisted and lunged, but it was useless.
Lightning’s speed was unmatched. Though swift, the Flying Heads couldn’t outrun it.
Defense was laughable.
This pure force crushed all evil spirits. No matter their tricks, the Flying Heads were pierced, shattered, and erased by thunder’s dominant power.
After obliterating them, the storm clouds rolled toward Corpse Mountain.
Meanwhile, as Mu Lin commanded the storm, the Merfolk surprised him. Instead of staying back, they charged at the giant corpse monster.
“???”
“You’re serious?!”
Mu Lin stared, baffled by their fierce loyalty. But he couldn’t dwell—though courageous, the Merfolk were outmatched.
The giant corpse monster was too powerful, too bizarre.
“Splash…”
At first, the Merfolk gained the upper hand. Using their numbers, they called forth massive waves that crashed toward the monster.
As water surged, some Merfolk shaped the currents into blades, harpoons, even charging steeds and shark-like warriors.
Hundreds of warhorses galloped, dozens of sharks leapt, and countless blades surged forward. The combined spells of the Merfolk had some force.
Yet the corpse monster proved stronger.
"Boom…"
The stampeding water that could smash walls burst into spray upon hitting the corpse monster’s cliff-like body.
Though the sharks and blades tore limbs, arms, and even heads from the monster’s body, the Merfolk’s relief quickly turned to horror.
As severed limbs and blood splashed into the sea, the corpse monster remained unfazed – but the summoned seawater darkened ominously.
"Gurgle, gurgle…"
Clear water turned putrid yellow upon contact with gore, becoming filthy liquid that surged backward with the monster’s advance.
"Retreat!"
"Don’t touch the tainted water!"
"Summon waves!"
Some Merfolk conjured counter-waves while others fled, but ordinary seawater couldn’t stop the advancing filth. The corpse monster suddenly swung its massive arm.
"Bang!"
Countless streams of polluted water shot toward the Merfolk like arrows.
"Dodge!"
Though some evaded the barrage, others took direct hits. The corrosive liquid burned through scales, causing immediate swelling and rot in affected areas. Panic spread among the Merfolk.
Before they could recover, the monster launched severed heads and dismembered arms at them. Mu Lin’s lightning could vaporize these Flying Heads of the Monster, but the Merfolk lacked such power. Their strongest warriors shattered a few heads and blocked some arms, but the onslaught continued.
Tragedy followed.
"AAAAH!"
One screaming head made their ears bleed and minds reel like a female demon’s wail. Blood-drenched arms left crimson handprints on distant Merfolk. A shadow-stepping foot paralyzed others where they floated.
The corpse monster of the Spirit Sea Realm fully deserved its fearsome reputation.
One person could annihilate multiple teams; even the Merfolk students stood no chance against the corpse monster.
“We’re finished…”
Everything before Merfolk leader Bai Li Xiu Ling filled her with despair.
Though unharmed by the corrupted water, she’d been using her special healing magic to cleanse her kin’s infections and mend their wounds.
Yet as the giant corpse monster lumbered closer and swarms of severed heads, limbs, and eyeballs hurtled toward them, Bai Li Xiu Ling knew her group wouldn’t last much longer.
“Prince Mu Lin has talent, but acts too rashly…”
The rapid defeat made her sigh bitterly, resentment rising toward the culprit behind this disaster.
Just as her despair peaked and blame toward Mu Lin swelled –
CRACK!
A sky-splitting thunderclap exploded beside her.
The deafening roar silenced the female ghost’s shrieks and froze the flying heads and twitching limbs mid-air.
Mu Lin had arrived.
Storm clouds now loomed over the corpse monster like a crushing mountain peak, engulfing the abomination and its swarm of floating heads and claws beneath their shadow.
White lightning then fell like celestial blades –
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
– striking heads, arms, and ashen feet with earth-shaking force.
The fierce thunderbolts shattered every grotesque limb they touched.
Those nightmarish threats the Merfolk struggled against now disintegrated without resistance before heaven’s wrath.
Mu Lin didn’t stop at destroying the Flying Heads of the Monster. The towering corpse monster itself trembled as lightning hammered its bulk a dozen times.
KABOOM!
The thunderclaps left ears ringing. The blinding flashes forced eyes shut. Bai Li Xiu Ling knew any bolt striking her would reduce her to cinders instantly.
All resentment toward Mu Lin vanished, replaced by awe.
Yet while she marveled, the lightning only scorched the corpse monster’s surface.
No wonder – built from thousands of corpses, the mountain-sized abomination shrugged off mere lightning strikes.
But Bai Li Xiu Ling noticed something – though Mu Lin couldn’t destroy the corpse monster…
Neither could the monster harm Mu Lin.
