Chapter 76: The Scheming Little Tang
"Enough empty talk?" Fang Lie narrowed his eyes and said lightly, "If you’re finished, let’s begin. I won’t waste time on you!"
Truthfully, Fang Lie felt wary about facing the Seven Stars Accompanying the Moon formation. Little Tang commanded seven combat-ready puppets with seamless coordination, while Fang Lie knew nothing of their capabilities.
Though Little Tang’s own cultivation wasn’t exceptional, he relied on external forces to boost his combat strength far beyond his level—essentially using wealth to overwhelm opponents. Most Qi Sea realm cultivators would be lucky to own a single second-rank treasure, yet each of his puppets wielded one, totaling seven, not counting whatever he carried himself.
Such wealth-driven power, though formidable, hindered true cultivation growth. Ambitious Cultivators scorned this path. Still, Little Tang’s strength remained undeniable. Against him, Fang Lie knew death was likely.
Yet Fang Lie would rather break than bend. He could accept defeat or death, but never submission—especially not to spoiled heirs.
Little Tang hadn’t anticipated such defiance. With such overwhelming force displayed, why couldn’t Fang Lie just yield?
His original plan—pleasing both his Big Brother and the future Great Pill Master—now crumbled. Prideful of his Wisdom over raw strength, Little Tang grew furious.
"Very well, Fang Lie!" Little Tang spat coldly. "Since you court death, I’ll oblige. Attack! Tear him apart!"
The puppets surged forward.
Two warrior puppets led with door-sized blades, their slashes unleashing ten-meter arcs of light that nearly swallowed Fang Lie. Behind them, spider puppets melted into the earth, vanishing from sight.
Fang Lie didn’t need to know their abilities to guess the spiders’ intent. *Distract with frontal assault while attacking from below? Predictable. But I’ve got wings!*
He beat his golden wings to ascend—only to be yanked downward by an invisible force, as if giant hands gripped him from below.
Trapped, Fang Lie hastily activated his Five Elements and Eight Trigrams Dao Robe as blade-light descended. Five massive Shields materialized, deflecting the strikes sideways.
Without the Explosion Qi Technique’s boost, blocking two near Second-tier puppets strained him. Only the Dao Robe’s extraordinary defense prevented instant dismemberment.
Fang Lie directed the earth-element Shield beneath his feet. Just in time—two violent impacts nearly shattered the barrier as the spiders struck from below.
Already overwhelmed by four puppets, Fang Lie activated the Explosion Qi Technique without delay. His Magic surged tenfold, strengthening the Shields enough to easily repel the assault.
Meanwhile, the crossbow-equipped puppet unleashed its attack. The weapon spat hundreds of black energy bolts like a geyser, each duck-egg thick and matching first-rank treasures in force.
Yet against Fang Lie’s enhanced defenses, even this barrage posed little threat.
But the problem was, Little Tang’s crossbow box wasn’t that simple. Among hundreds of bolts, there weren’t just energy arrows – he’d secretly mixed in one or two real physical bolts too!
These physical bolts were disposable treasures crafted by Cultivators. Though crude, they packed power matching top-grade second-tier treasures. Mixed with regular energy bolts, they caught people off guard. Using such disposable weapons violated arena rules, but the judges turned a blind eye, leaving Fang Lie helpless.
Luckily Fang Lie’s magic had surged tenfold, boosting his Five Elements and Eight Trigrams Dao Robe’s protection to top-grade second-tier level. Combined with Huang family Shield Expert techniques inside, he managed to hold firm despite being pummeled.
Yet Fang Lie felt uneasy. Little Tang’s "Seven Stars Accompanying the Moon" nickname meant seven puppets – only five had appeared so far. What if the last two joined?
Suddenly Old Bird’s voice echoed in his mind: "Using disposable bolts breaks rules. Why no judge intervention?"
"Judges come from Zhou Zhengqing’s Ancestral Hall," Fang Lie fumed. "That old dog hates me. They’ll claim ‘chaotic skies obscured vision’ as excuse later."
"Damn rule-breakers!" Old Bird spat. "Since they cheat first, we’ll play dirty too. Listen – I’ll reveal Seven Stars’ secret!"
"How?" Fang Lie gaped. "That’s supposed to be secret!"
"I’m Benevolence Token’s spirit!" Old Bird boasted. "Mo Ancestor’s legacy lives in me. Seven Stars uses his basic theories – crude stuff I saw through instantly!"
"Normally I shouldn’t help mid-battle," Old Bird continued, "but their cheating justifies it. Seven Stars has two melee, two ranged, two ambushers, plus one critical support. The secret’s in Little Tang’s mount – that six-armed metal beast? It’s just a support puppet!"
"Support?" Fang Lie stared at the hulking silver-armored machine.
"Supports assist, don’t fight directly. Little Tang disguised its weak combat strength with scary looks!"
Realization struck. "My grounded state – its doing?"
"Exactly! It manipulates earth’s magnetic force. Unless you overpower it, no flying. Trapped without speed, you’re helpless."
"What now? My magic’s limited while their puppets eat spirit stones!"
"Your opportunity’s coming," Old Bird said. "See the motionless puppet?"
Fang Lie spotted it – hidden behind the six-armed ape puppet, dust clouds masking a charging lightning cannon aimed at him.
