Chapter 47: Lingzhi Jade Liquid
"Ouch!" Fang Lie slapped his forehead regretfully. "I forgot to ask for the lid! This pot—no, this Alchemy Cauldron’s too broken. They probably couldn’t find a matching lid either!"
"What now?" Mao Mao asked.
"Easy," Fang Lie waved. "Grab our cooking pot lid. It’ll work!"
"Seriously?" Mao Mao stared blankly.
"Of course! Fetch Fang Huo’s lid while I organize the herbs. We start alchemy tonight!"
"Oh…" Though confused, Mao Mao obediently left.
Soon Mao Mao returned with the lid—trailed by three curious figures.
"Big Brother! Heard you’re using this pot for alchemy!" Ice Second Brother grinned. "Came to watch!"
"Careful with that lid!" Fang Huo fretted. "We chopped trees and carved it ourselves!"
"What’s this act about?" Longxing Tianxia groaned. "Your fiery Dao magic, that crude Pill Furnace, and a kitchen lid? What pills could you possibly make? Just causing trouble!"
"Enough!" Fang Lie snapped. "Help sort herbs and prepare containers instead of yapping!" He tossed them the Sumeru Bags.
Their jaws dropped upon peering inside. Half a room’s worth of herbs spilled out—all shockingly shoddy.
Ice Second Brother pinched a twig-thin Ginseng. "Five-year roots? Even basic spirit pills need better than this! You bought a hundred pounds?"
"Maybe he’s making herbal stew!" Fang Huo joked. "The kids could eat it, though it’s bitter!"
"Fools!" Fang Lie barked. "These are alchemy ingredients!"
"Yeah right," Fang Huo muttered while sorting.
Their dismay grew as more herbs emerged—clearly rejected leftovers. Ice Second Brother lifted a Lingzhi (Reishi Mushroom) with tooth marks. "Look! Three-year Lingzhi chewed by dogs!"
"Idiot!" Fang Huo retorted. "Mice did this! What dog eats Lingzhi?"
"Ah right! Mouse leftovers!" Ice Second Brother corrected solemnly.
Laughter erupted as Fang Lie rubbed his temples. "Less chatter, more work! Our future meals depend on these!"
"You’re actually serious?" Longxing Tianxia gaped.
"Fine, truth time." Fang Lie sighed. "I obtained Mo Ancestor’s alchemy formula in the Cycle of Fire. Tonight’s the trial run."
"Why not say so earlier?" Ice Second Brother cried. "No wonder you bought junk!"
"Still wasteful!" Fang Huo protested. "This trash cost money! What if nothing comes out?"
"Should’ve bought decent herbs to recoup costs!" Longxing Tianxia nodded.
"Look at how pathetic you all are!" Fang Lie curled his lips and sneered, "Who claimed garbage herbs can’t brew top-grade spirit pills? I’ll have you know I’m making Five Elements Detox Pill this time!"
"What? Five Elements Detox Pill?" Ice Second Brother gaped. "Big Brother, have you lost your mind? That thing requires at least a Hundred Years of alchemy experience just to attempt!"
"Last time I served as Furnace Watcher for a Five Elements Detox Pill refinement," Fang Huo interjected, "the materials alone cost hundreds of thousands of spirit stones. That scoundrel exhausted every effort yet failed to produce even one pill! If you succeed with these scraps and that broken pot, every alchemist might as well leap into graves!"
"Big Brother!" Longxing Tianxia added, "Your ambition is admirable, but shouldn’t we start with simpler tasks? Perhaps try something less…"
"Hmph! Knew you’d doubt me." Fang Lie scoffed as the herbs finished sorting. "Watch closely!"
He thrust his hand outward, Magic yanking the hundred-pound Lingzhi pile into the air. The mushrooms coalesced into a hovering mass before him.
Fang Lie exhaled sharply, summoning his inherited true fire. Within his Qi Sea, the shadowy Nirvana fire nascent fetus parted its lips, releasing a stream of prismatic flames that surged through his meridians. Twin fire currents raced down his Arms, erupting from his palms to engulf the Lingzhi cluster.
Unlike ordinary flames, the Nirvana fire tenderly softened the mushrooms. Impurities vaporized into azure smoke while essence condensed into milky fluid. Soon, the entire pile transformed into an egg-sized orb of Jade Nectar, its rich aroma saturating the room with revitalizing Spiritual Energy.
The four Ice and Fire Poison Dragon members stared dumbfounded.
"By the heavens!" Ice Second Brother trembled. "He extracted pure Jade Nectar from rubbish Lingzhi!"
"Whoever claimed this required millennium-old Lingzhi deserves spit to the face!" Fang Huo exclaimed.
"This alone’s worth a fortune!" Longxing Tianxia’s eyes shone. "Normally needs five thousand-year Lingzhi!"
"Merely the beginning." Fang Lie smirked. "Fang Huo! Ignite the furnace!"
The chastened Fang Huo rushed to obey, hands pressed against the dilapidated Pill Furnace. His fire-aligned spiritual root emitted steady flames – perfect for prolonged heating but lacking Fang Lie’s explosive force.
Fang Huo’s years as Furnace Watcher proved vital. Without temperature-control Formations, he manually balanced the heat through grueling focus, maintaining the Jade Nectar’s liquid state.
Fang Lie nodded approval before processing another herb batch. Nirvana fire transmuted it into silvery liquid deposited in the furnace’s opposite chamber. "Keep them separate!" he ordered.
"Understood!"
The process repeated – extracting essences, timed mixtures, occasional impurity removals. Though intricate, Fang Lie’s movements grew fluid, resembling a seasoned alchemist rather than a novice. What began as awkward gestures soon flowed with practiced precision, leaving his companions awestruck.
