Chapter 45: Five Elements Detoxification Pills
"Pfft~" The Baibao Zhai shopkeeper finally burst out laughing at the Young Girl’s remark.
He swiftly composed himself and scolded, "What nonsense! He merely inquired about them, not claimed he’d refine any!"
"Oh? Just asking?" The Young Girl feigned innocence. "I assumed the almighty Young Master Fang Lie truly intended to make Five Elements Detoxification Pills. My mistake!"
Secretly, she gloated: Finally, I’ll see Fang Lie humiliated! That’ll settle our score. Let’s watch him rage!
Yet when she glanced at Fang Lie, he simply smiled. "Little miss, you’re right this time. I do intend to refine Five Elements Detoxification Pills!"
"What? You?" The Young Girl scoffed after her initial shock. "Stop boasting! I won’t listen!" She scampered away.
"Hah! You chased her off with one sentence!" The shopkeeper chuckled before asking seriously, "What pill do you truly seek to make?"
"Five Elements Detoxification Pills," Fang Lie repeated firmly.
The shopkeeper grimaced. "Enough jokes. The child’s gone."
"I’m serious."
"Still jesting?" The shopkeeper huffed. "Do you even understand what they are?"
"Pills that purge pill toxin," Fang Lie answered.
Cultivators rely heavily on pills – for mana, meridians, divine sense, body strengthening, lifespan, and specialized Dao magic. Even Thunder Tribulation Immortals like Zhou Zhengqing need them. His Thunder Law demands pills to withstand internal lightning; else, his own power would destroy him.
Higher-ranked cultivators consume more potent pills. But all medicines carry residue. Accumulated pill toxin – a hidden cocktail of impurities – proves fatal when reaching critical levels. Hence cultivators vigilantly monitor toxin buildup, halting pill use at the slightest discomfort to purge it naturally.
Five Elements Detoxification Pills eradicate years of toxin with one dose, enabling resumed cultivation.
The shopkeeper arched an eyebrow. "You know this, yet seek the formula?"
"I have it." Fang Lie counted off. "Thirty-six primary herbs over a millennium old, seventy-two secondary herbs aged two centuries."
"How?" The shopkeeper gaped. "That formula’s a Mo Sect secret!"
Fang Lie smirked. "Is it so hard for someone like me to obtain?"
"Candidate Token ord?" The shopkeeper frowned. "Even with the formula and refining methods from Mo Ancestor’s Pill Scripture, you can’t possibly succeed!"
"Why not?" Fang Lie grinned. "Seems straightforward to me."
"Simple?" The Baibao Zhai shopkeeper stared blankly, unable to stop himself from retorting, "Do you know how many alchemists would die of anger if they heard that? Even skilled alchemists only achieve fifty-percent success rates with Five Elements Detoxification Pills! And you call it simple?"
"If I say it, I can back it up!" Fang Lie grinned. "Believe me or not, it makes no difference. I’m just here to shop, not argue!"
"Fair enough, my mistake!" The shopkeeper chuckled. "State your needs then. But don’t ask about pill furnaces for Five Elements Detoxification Pills – those require top-grade fourth-tier treasures. Our humble shop has nothing so grand."
"Couldn’t afford one anyway!" Fang Lie shrugged. "Just give me your cheapest Pill Furnace."
"Done!" The shopkeeper sent a divine sense message to the Young Girl outside, ordering her to fetch their most affordable furnace.
Soon, the girl lugged in a grimy two-foot-wide cauldron. Plonking it down, she chirped, "Ten spirit stones!"
"What?" Fang Lie gaped. Even he knew basic pill furnaces cost thousands. "Ten? Did she say hundred thousand?"
The shopkeeper smacked the girl’s head. "Troublemaker! I said furnace, not scrap!"
"Ow! It technically counts!" The girl rubbed her head. "Our actual stock starts at tens of thousands. Think he can pay that?"
Fang Lie’s face fell. With only thousands to his name, he began examining the battered furnace. His eyes lit up – while its internal formations were worn out, the ancient design remained intact.
"This’ll do!" he declared.
"See, Master?" The girl preened. "He wants it!"
The shopkeeper rolled his eyes. "Fang Lie, this junk can’t brew tea, let alone pills! Its fire control and herb separation formations are dead. Even a Xuan Sect master alchemist couldn’t use this!"
"Their limits aren’t mine." Fang Lie tossed ten stones to the girl. "Sold!"
As the girl waved her spoils, the shopkeeper sighed. "Fine. But don’t tell anyone you bought that here – we’ve a reputation!"
"My lips are sealed." Fang Lie stored the furnace in his Sumeru Bag. "Now, ingredients for Five Elements Detoxification Pills?"
"Yes!" said the girl.
"No!" snapped the shopkeeper.
Fang Lie blinked. "Which is it?"
"We lack the 36 millennium-grade spiritual items!" the shopkeeper insisted.
The girl huffed, "Who needs millennia-old herbs? The recipe lists 108 ingredients – we’ve younger versions!"
"Exactly!" Fang Lie beamed. "Give me the cheapest, freshest weeds you’ve got!"
"Told you!" The girl stuck her tongue out at her master.
