Chapter 36: The Yuan Family’s Last Day

"Heh!" Fang Lie looked at Law Enforcer Liu Zifeng with mockery and said lightly, "You thought I should’ve died?"

"Well…" Liu Zifeng didn’t dare answer truthfully. Admitting this would mean confessing his involvement in Fang Lie’s ambush!

He hastily backtracked, "I meant—after angering so many people, the curses stabbed into your back should’ve been enough to finish you off!"

"Nonsense!" Fang Lie laughed. "Only a few vile scoundrels curse me, while those Eight-Hundred-Generation Families face death curses from hundreds of thousands of Mo Sect outer disciples. If those bastards still breathe, why should curses kill me?"

"…" Liu Zifeng froze.

Fang Lie spoke truth. Though disliked, he paled compared to the hatred toward the Eight-Hundred-Generation Families.

The Eight-Hundred-Generation Families had barely over a hundred thousand members, while outer disciples numbered hundreds of thousands. For years, family disciples bullied them endlessly. Though the disciples couldn’t rebel openly, they surely cursed in secret.

If curses could kill, the Eight-Hundred-Generation Families would’ve perished long ago!

Thus, their first verbal clash ended with Liu Zifeng’s crushing defeat.

Liu Zifeng wasn’t stupid. Knowing his faction always played villains, competing with Fang Lie over curses would only shame him further.

He cleared his throat, dispelling the awkwardness, and changed subjects. "Why’ve you returned to the Ancestral Hall?"

Liu Zifeng knew exactly why—Fang Lie came to accuse the Yuan family of ambushing him. The question merely bought time as Liu Zifeng scrambled for solutions.

Sweating like an ant on a hot pan, Liu Zifeng glared at Fang Lie with murderous intent.

He knew Fang Lie aimed to wield him as a blade, but Liu Zifeng refused to be that weapon.

Yuan Qing had become Fang Lie’s pawn earlier, plunging himself and his clan into crisis. They’d even unleashed their treasured Great Heaven Fierce Fire Formation to resolve it.

Yet instead of solving the problem, it worsened—now the entire Yuan family faced annihilation!

Liu Zifeng cared little for the Yuans’ fate, but couldn’t let their downfall come through him. The surviving Yuan relatives and branches would loathe him and his clan. Being Fang Lie’s tool would invite further hatred.

His family, slightly stronger than the Yuans but still minor, tread cautiously to avoid trouble. They’d never risk becoming Fang Lie’s hounds!

He desperately sought escape from this doomed task.

But Fang Lie showed no mercy.

"I’m here to accuse the Yuan family of ambushing me with the Great Heaven Fierce Fire Formation!" Fang Lie grinned. "You knew about this all along, didn’t you?"

Liu Zifeng trembled. "Lies! How would I know?!"

"The Formation’s power emits spiritual pressure detectable for miles! The protective array should’ve reacted—yet it didn’t." Fang Lie smirked. "Only one explanation: someone interfered. And you, the on-duty Law Enforcer, are the prime suspect!"

"Baseless accusations!" Liu Zifeng wiped his sweaty brow.

Terror gripped him. Fang Lie had slaughtered thousands of high-level cultivators. With solid evidence, even gods couldn’t save Liu Zifeng!

Luckily, Fang Lie lacked proof. Many methods could disrupt the protective array—this alone couldn’t convict Liu Zifeng.

But Fang Lie pressed on. "True, I’ve no evidence. But I’ll still note this down. Handle my accusation properly now, and I’ll overlook your schemes."

"But if you delay, evade, or shield the Yuans…" Fang Lie’s smile turned icy. "I’ll revoke your position with the Ancestor’s Token and settle all debts at once. The Mo Sect has tortures that’ll make you wish you were dead!"

"You? How vicious!" Law Enforcer Liu Zifeng choked out, his voice trembling with barely suppressed tears.

"Hmph! When I was besieged by over a hundred cultivators, you secretly aided them!" Fang Lie roared. "Who’s truly vicious here? What deep hatred exists between us?"

"Th-this… there was no choice!" Liu Zifeng protested weakly. "You were born among the Eight-Hundred-Generation Families. You know our clans stand united. Anyone breaking this unspoken rule becomes an outcast!"

"I care nothing for your rotten rules. Justice outweighs petty favors!" Fang Lie bellowed. "Liu Zifeng! As Law Enforcer, you represent Mo Sect’s laws – not clan loyalties!"

"This… I…" Liu Zifeng stood frozen, words failing him.

"Choose now – perish with the Yuan family or save yourself!" Fang Lie growled. "Decide this instant, or I’ll act!"

"Aaaah!" Liu Zifeng slammed the judge’s wooden hammer violently. "Law Enforcement Heavenly Soldiers! Arrest every Yuan family member and all who deployed the Great Heaven Fierce Fire Formation today!"

The soldiers vanished instantly to carry out orders.

Meanwhile, Yuan disciples visited great family clans to strengthen alliances after supposedly killing Fang Lie. Bearing gifts and humility from eliminating both Fang Lie and Yuan Qing, they sought reconciliation.

As the saying goes – none strike a smiling face. Even stern clans softened at these gestures, hosting lavish banquets. When gifts arrive, refusal would stain a great clan’s dignity.

But as wine flowed freely, disaster struck. Law Enforcement Heavenly Soldiers stormed festivities, arresting Yuan members across multiple clans.

Stunned clan leaders learned the impossible truth from soldiers – Fang Lie lived! The "dead" man now accused them in the Ancestral Hall!

Chaos erupted. The Yuan family had used their supreme treasure Great Heaven Fierce Fire Formation – capable of slaying Thunder Tribulation Immortals! Yet a mere Qi Sea cultivator survived?

Some puzzled endlessly. Others accused the Yuan family of intentional failure. Regardless, curiosity drove thousands to follow the arresting soldiers to the Ancestral Hall.

Thus 108 prisoners paraded before over ten thousand spectators. The normally solemn hall buzzed like a marketplace.

"Unbelievable!" gossips exclaimed. "The Ancestral Hall opening twice in one day? Tens of thousands attending both sessions? This defies all precedent!"

"Dozens executed this morning, over a hundred more now? The Yuan family faces annihilation!"

"Fang Lie’s mere Qi Sea cultivation topples our mighty Mo Sect! Hundreds slaughtered daily – soon none will remain!"

"Fools!" others countered. "The Yuan idiots failed with their precious formation! They deserve extinction!"

"But I witnessed Fang Lie’s body burn to ash!" a bystander insisted. "Escape was impossible!"

"Who knows what treasures he gained from the Cycle of Fire?" another whispered. "Our ancestors’ legacy holds endless secrets…"

Amid the uproar, soldiers dragged in the Yuan Family Head. He’d refused belief until seeing Fang Lie’s living face. Now terror turned his limbs to ice.

Alive. Fang Lie lived. The Yuan family would perish.

Regret crushed the old man’s heart. His momentary folly doomed every Yuan – sons, daughters, even married women. Only one youth in closed-door training escaped the net.

Yet centuries of leadership sparked desperate cunning. Stumbling forward, the patriarch threw himself at Fang Lie’s feet, forehead striking stone three times!
