Chapter 146: Bold Questioning
When the two monks regained consciousness, they discovered in horror that all their meridians had been shattered. They were essentially crippled.
Fang Lie stood before them wearing that infuriating grin.
For cultivators, losing their cultivation was worse than death. The two monks had already resolved to die. Upon seeing Fang Lie, they began cursing.
"Fang Lie, you brat! Kill us if you dare! The elders of Great Thunder Sound Temple will avenge us!"
"You bloodthirsty demon! Buddha will condemn you to the eighteen layers of hell!"
"Heh." Fang Lie chuckled, amused rather than angered. "You call me a demon? I, Fang Lie, have always acted with honor. I’ve never broken laws or disgraced my family’s integrity. Why would Buddha punish me? Because of Buddhist trash like you?"
"Lies!" One monk spat. "Monks of Great Thunder Sound Temple embody compassion! When have we ever produced scoundrels? Do you only know how to spew nonsense?"
"You claim I’m lying?" Fang Lie’s smile turned cold. "Then explain this – why did you ambush me when we had no quarrel? Is this how righteous sects behave?"
The monks fell silent. Their sect had indeed instigated the conflict by plotting against Fang Lie first. Their deaths were deserved.
Fang Lie pressed on: "Moreover, I sense heavy karma clinging to you both. You’ve slaughtered innocents. Deny it if you can."
The monks paled. "You… you can truly perceive karma?"
"I can sense it." Fang Lie stated flatly. "Am I wrong?"
One monk sighed. "I killed rivals in my youth to prove myself…"
"Before joining the temple," the other confessed, "I massacred the clan that murdered my parents – over a hundred souls, guilty and innocent alike."
Facing death, they saw no point in lies.
Fang Lie shook his head. "Power makes men view mortals as ants. You deserve no pity."
"Hypocrite!" A monk sneered. "Have you never killed?"
"I have." Fang Lie declared. "But only with clean hands and clear conscience. I’ll swear a Heart Demon Oath on this."
The monks exchanged complex glances – respect, resentment, and shame mingling in their eyes.
Cutting through their silence, Fang Lie demanded: "Where’s your rendezvous point?"
The monks initially refused, but Fang Lie played his trump card: "Your sect lost Puhua, a future Thunder Tribulation Immortal. Yet East Kunlun and Mo Sect retain their geniuses. How long before Great Thunder Sound Temple falls behind?"
The monks’ resolve cracked. After heated argument, one revealed: "North of the Arhat Immortal Fruit Tree – a valley seventeen thousand li away."
His companion wept at this betrayal, but the informant shouted: "Our sacrifice will balance the scales! The sect mustn’t fall behind!"
Fang Lie snorted. "Hypocrites to the last. My father was likely sacrificed like this too."
He executed them swiftly.
Following the directions, Fang Lie intercepted multiple cultivators en route to the rendezvous. The Seven Treasures Vajra Mace in hand, he cut them down like wheat, collecting Sumeru Bags as he went.
His combat strength had soared terrifyingly since the trials began. Where he’d once struggled against elite disciples, he now hunted them effortlessly. Xiao Xuanzi and Bai First Young Master’s escape only delayed the inevitable – Fang Lie’s wrath would find them soon enough.
