Chapter 134: Collecting Treasures
With the old bird’s reminder and the power of the Earth Eye Divine Skill, Fang Lie spent over an hour and finally located the jade essence.
It hid among hundreds of similar stones. Without inspecting each one thoroughly, he might have missed it entirely.
Buried over two hundred feet underground, separated by both an underground river and layers of solid rock, this treasure remained inaccessible to ordinary methods. Only Fang Lie’s extraordinary Earth Eye Divine Skill allowed him to peer through the obstructions.
Summoning the Clear Wind Bright Moon Sword, Fang Lie sent forth a azure Sword Ray plunging into the earth. Though lacking moonlight to enhance its power, the third-tier high-quality treasure still sliced through ordinary stone like hot knife through butter.
The Sword Energy carved a narrow tunnel straight to the target. With delicate control, Fang Lie guided the blade’s edge to cradle the jade essence and withdraw it. A palm-sized gray stone tumbled from the hole into his waiting hand.
Coarse and pockmarked, the unassuming rock revealed its true nature when Fang Lie channeled Magic through it. Faint seven-colored Divine Light shimmered beneath its surface, while intricate patterns echoed the Heavenly Dao. Most striking was the layer of liquid Spiritual Energy mist forming on its exterior – a phenomenon absent during its underground confinement.
"Magnificent!" Fang Lie exclaimed. "This’ll let our cave dwelling generate its own Spiritual Veins. Our brothers’ cultivation speed will double at least!"
"Tch. Lowest-grade dregs of jade essence," scoffed the old bird. "No jade hue, barely a hundred-mile Spiritual Vein. Pathetic."
"Perfect for my needs," Fang Lie countered. "Once isolated with Formations, this’ll create dense Spiritual Energy mist in my modest cave."
Curiosity struck him. "How do we rank jade essence?"
"By jade transformation level," the old bird explained. "That lump’s the crude initial form. Over centuries, it hardens into jade – more transformation means higher grade. The ultimate specimens become crystal-clear. Mo Sect’s treasure is ten-foot transparent White Jade generating million-mile Spiritual Veins. Your pebble’s not fit to polish its surface."
Fang Lie chuckled, storing the jade essence in Cycle of Fire via Sending-Home Art. "Now teach me to move spirit stones and jade milk."
"Use the Soul-Sealing Secret Technique," the old bird said. "Seals Spiritual Fields or lands into portable sculptures. Harmless transport. Simple spell."
Within half an hour, Fang Lie mastered the technique. Circling the Jade Pool, he wove secret techniques. The pool and its miniature tree shrunk gradually, becoming basin-sized artifacts. Admiring his handiwork, Fang Lie smiled in satisfaction.
The old bird sneered, "That thing’s just trash, and your refining’s even worse. Normally it’d be an inch tall—masters make ’em date-pit sized. But you? A whole basin? Proud of that? Shame much?"
Fang Lie’s face flushed red. He quickly stashed it away, protesting, "First try’s not bad!"
"Enough chatter," the old bird snapped. "You’ve wasted time. Go find the Arhat Immortal Fruit!"
"What’s the rush?" Fang Lie shrugged. "Even if other sects grab it, I’ll take it!"
"What if they eat it on the spot?" the old bird chuckled.
Fang Lie froze. "They wouldn’t… right?"
"Depends who finds it," the old bird snorted. "Some nobody gets it—eat fast or get robbed?"
"Damn!" Fang Lie paled. "No! I need that fruit—can’t let others have it!"
He bolted back through the cave. Emerging outside, he spread his golden wings and shot skyward—then halted. "Wait," he groaned, "where’s the fruit even located? This place is huge!"
"What?" The old bird squawked. "No map? That’s standard!"
"Bastards!" Fang Lie growled. "Those three Immortals hated me from the start. Bet they kept my map!"
"Pah!" The old bird scoffed. "You killed folks, took their Sumeru Bags. Their maps are inside."
Fang Lie slapped his forehead. "Their junk’s in the Cycle of Fire. Help me check?"
The old bird sighed dramatically before rifling through the pile. Moments later, five yellow Jade Slips floated up.
"Got ’em," the bird said. Fang Lie snatched them via Sending-Home Art.
"Five maps!" Fang Lie fumed. "Even Blue Butterfly Dress got one! Those Immortals framed me!"
He glared at the horizon. "Can’t fight them now. They’ll just claim ‘oversight’."
Checking the map against landmarks, he soared onward. Though his Golden Eagle mount waited, he flew himself—speed mattered.
"Map says the Secret Realm’s dangerous," Fang Lie muttered mid-flight. "Beasts, perilous zones… and the Arhat Fruit’s guarded by Iron-Beaked Birds. Even Purple Palace cultivators die there! How’re we Qi Sea rookies supposed to manage? Is this trial a death trap?"
"No sect kills disciples," the old bird chided. "Where there’s guardian beasts, there’s counters. Find them."
Fang Lie brightened. "You know their weakness! Tell me!"
"Nope," the bird said smugly. "This’s your trial. My help defeats the purpose."
Fang Lie grimaced. The bird’s stubbornness matched his own. Giving up, he flew faster. Whatever came, reaching the fruit first was key.
