Chapter 121: Unfair Treatment
Normally, this treasure ship as large as a small mountain could accommodate thousands of people. With such vast space, many servants were naturally required.
When transporting distinguished guests especially, attendants needed careful selection. Therefore, outer disciples were permanently stationed on each treasure ship as laborers.
The young Taoist before them had been assigned to receive Fang Lie and Blue Butterfly Dress.
Fang Lie nodded curtly and commanded, "Take us to our quarters first."
"At once~ Please follow me!" the young Taoist replied deferentially.
As an outer disciple laborer, his position ranked extremely low.
In this cruel world, powerful inner gate disciples could casually kill someone like him and face mere reprimands without punishment. He dared not displease Fang Lie and Blue Butterfly Dress, even noticing others shunned them – maintaining utmost respect regardless.
Guided by the young Taoist, they reached the first level of the five-story pavilion aboard the treasure ship. Rows of identical chambers lined the interior.
"You may choose any room here," the young Taoist informed them.
Fang Lie’s brow furrowed. "Where are the others? Why see no one?"
"This…" The young Taoist lowered his head awkwardly.
Fang Lie wasn’t one to tolerate evasion. "Do I lack the qualification to know?" he demanded coldly.
"N-no!" The young Taoist stammered, frightened by Fang Lie’s wrath. "They’re… on the floor above."
"What?" Fang Lie’s anger flared. "Better accommodations upstairs, I presume?"
"Indeed. Each higher floor improves in quality," the young Taoist confirmed. "The topmost level resembles paradise itself – reserved for Immortals and above."
"Then why are we placed lower than others?" Fang Lie’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "Your doing?"
"Not I!" The young Taoist paled. "By tradition, inner gate disciples belong here. But this time, the overseers moved others upstairs – only you two remain as before!"
Understanding dawned. Someone sought to humiliate him through contrast. Though Fang Lie cared little for luxury, this blatant discrimination stung. Yet no rules were technically broken, leaving him powerless.
"Hmph! Petty fools with petty schemes," Fang Lie scoffed bitterly. Turning to his companion, he sighed, "My apologies, Senior Sister. My actions have cost you better quarters."
He knew Blue Butterfly Dress might have gained upper floors had she not defended him against Bai First Young Master.
The petite woman shook her head earnestly, cheeks flushing pink. "Don’t blame yourself, Junior Brother. Their tyranny shames them – I merely spoke truth!"
As Fang Lie’s heart quickened at her expression, a sneering voice cut through: "What a pair of shameless curs!"
Whirling around, Fang Lie saw the speaker – a blue-robed youth among Bai First Young Master’s lackeys, fellow inner gate disciple in the Secret Realm contest.
"Deathwish, worm?" Fang Lie advanced threateningly. "Repeat those words!"
The bully recoiled despite his advantages – a Qi Sea reaching a thousand zhang and multiple treasures making him Fang Lie’s superior in cultivation.
But he didn’t dare fight Fang Lie at all. The Soulfire Lance gave Fang Lie unmatched power, combined with his unnatural ability to recover that made him annoyingly persistent. The man admitted to himself he had less than twenty percent chance of victory against Fang Lie.
Injuries would weaken his combat strength over time, while Fang Lie could ignore such concerns. In such circumstances, Fang Lie could simply charge recklessly and finish him off through mutual injuries.
He hastily retreated several steps, shouting, "No fighting allowed here! I’m just delivering information – the Nascent Soul True Immortal leading this mission awaits us on the top floor for instructions! Being late would disrespect our elders!"
With these words, the scoundrel fled up the stairs without looking back.
"Hmph!" Fang Lie snorted coldly before turning to Blue Butterfly Dress. "Senior Sister, shall we go see?"
"Agreed." Blue Butterfly Dress nodded, ascending the stairs with Fang Lie.
They soon reached the fifth floor’s great hall – a hundred-zhang space glowing with magnificent and dazzling grandeur. Thirty-six dragon pillars thicker than five chi each supported the ceiling, their surfaces carved with intricate phoenix and dragon patterns.
Massive incense burners stood alongside delicate jade screens and rare treasures. The floor carpet woven from heavenly silkworm silk particularly caught attention – material that could make decent Daoist robes for outer disciples lay here as mere decoration, soft underfoot but otherwise useless.
This enormous carpet alone could have clothed countless junior disciples. To Fang Lie’s thrifty eyes, the hall’s extravagance defied description.
Three seats dominated the front platform, occupied by Nascent Soul True Immortals. The left held a Hong Yi-robed woman with gentle eyes. The right featured an elderly man in patched rags, snoring like a beggar. The central figure was a Middle-aged Human Immortal radiating sharp killing intent, his Sword Case strapped behind as he glared at Fang Lie.
Bai First Young Master’s group flanked both sides of the hall, smirking at the newcomers. Fang Lie immediately sensed murderous hostility from the central immortal’s gaze.
Unfazed, Fang Lie stepped forward and clasped his fists. "Disciple Fang Lie pays respects to elders."
After prolonged silence, the central immortal ground out through clenched teeth: "So you’re Fang Lie."
The man’s twisted expression suggested deep hatred. Fang Lie met it head-on, declaring boldly: "Indeed, I am."
"Brave words!" The immortal roared. "You slaughtered hundreds of Mo Sect elites in mere months! Such ruthlessness!"
"Elder misunderstands." Fang Lie retorted sharply. "Mo Sect follows strict sect rules. As outer disciple, I lack power or authority to slay elites. Only sect rules could execute them. Had they not broken laws, who could kill them?"
"Fools court death." Fang Lie sneered. "Their deaths were deserved."
"Impudent whelp!" The immortal’s rage shook the hall.
"If any execution lacked justification," Fang Lie challenged, "please point you in the direction. Were I truly wrong, I’ll gladly face ancestral punishment!"
The immortal fell silent. Every execution had followed sect rules – why else would Ancestor’s Token permit it?
Breaking the stalemate, the Hong Yi woman smiled. "Enough. We summoned you for mission details."
The central immortal seized this escape, letting her continue.
"Your opponents are East Kunlun and Great Thunder Sound Temple," she announced. "These leaders of righteous sects surpass even Mo Sect. This treasure hunt masks secret competition. Disgrace us, and punishment awaits survivors."
"Withdraw now if incompetent!" The central immortal barked at Fang Lie specifically.
Fang Lie ignored the jab, awaiting details.
"However," the woman continued, "whoever claims the Arhat Immortal Fruit gains one month’s Jade Pool cultivation."
Gasps filled the hall. Disciples flushed crimson, breathing heavily. Even Fang Lie’s composure cracked.
‘The Jade Pool!’ he thought excitedly. ‘Old bird said it’s transformed from ancient Golden Pool. One day there equals months of normal cultivation! A month inside means three years’ progress!’
