Chapter 98: Returning to the Ten-Summon Big Family! (2)
Mu Ling gazed calmly at Kessel’s face and spoke deliberately, “The Savior’s power exceeds your imagination. Abandon your intention of capturing us. We and the Demon Hunt Agency are not enemies.”
“The Babel Tower’s purpose is to save the entire world.”
“Then stay and explain the situation in detail.”
Kessel’s expression remained unchanged as he lifted his left hand again, and the solid-colored ring on his finger emitted a brilliant red light.
Yet Mu Ling and Maryse remained unaffected.
Their forms gradually dissolved into the black mist.
“How is this possible?”
Kessel watched helplessly as the pair departed, his brow deeply furrowed.
“Babel Tower, the Savior… does this name indicate the mastermind behind their actions…?”
He sifted through memories accumulated over centuries, but found nothing about the “Savior.” Such a person had never been mentioned before.
“Who could they be?” Kessel sank into deep thought.
Bai Yan stood quietly among the numerous Night Watchers.
As a Night Watcher with minimal combat capability, he remained inactive, merely observing the scene silently.
Bai Yan felt no anxiety rising within him. His sole task was to maintain a composed smile among the crowd.
——
Back in the office, Bai Yan settled contentedly into his chair.
The “God of Sleep” in the front row remained unconscious. From his position, he could glimpse Black Vulture’s delicate, fair waist partially exposed.
Would she catch cold?
If Black Vulture were an ordinary person, Bai Yan would have felt compelled to remind her to cover up, but he refrained.
After all, they weren’t particularly close—rather quite distant—and hadn’t exchanged even a single word thus far.
If he were to wake her or offer a reminder himself, the situation would undoubtedly become awkward.
Shortly after, Holly approached.
Despite it being the weekend, she had still come to the Demon Hunt Agency.
Bai Yan shared the closest relationship with her among the team members, as they were the only ones who engaged in daily office conversation.
He understood why Holly had been delighted when he joined.
As Holly spoke, her rabbit ears swayed gently, “My goodness, those tasked with investigating Babel Tower—or even the so-called ‘Emperor’—aren’t very competent. They allowed the Babel Tower members to escape again.”
She waggled a finger and chuckled. “It’s really the ‘Black Mist’ that’s too formidable, enabling them to vanish without a trace. Otherwise, I’d truly love to challenge that hunter.”
Bai Yan couldn’t suppress a smile upon hearing this. “You wish to fight that white-haired girl in black? Could you win? Or would you end up as spicy rabbit head?”
“I’ve been studying Babel Tower footage lately. Previously, I might have had an even chance against her.”
Holly contemplated briefly, furrowing her brow before continuing, “But in nearly every video, she displays increasing strength. Now, I wouldn’t stand a chance.”
“That’s what makes Babel Tower so frightening,” Holly sighed enviously, “The rate of their power growth is absurd. Sometimes, I almost wish I could join Babel Tower myself.”
Bai Yan’s smile grew more subtle as he remarked, “Perhaps those seeking to join Babel Tower must pay a terrible price, such as surrendering their soul to its master.”
“Oh, let’s not discuss that.”
Upon hearing this, Holly’s expression immediately shifted to one of fear, as if conjuring numerous horrifying possibilities.
“If that’s true, they’re truly pitiful. Perhaps they maintain appearances while being manipulated behind the scenes by Babel Tower’s master…”
Bai Yan desperately wanted to interject, “What are you suggesting? That’s impossible.”
However, such a statement would contradict his assumed identity. After all, Holly’s speculation remained theoretically possible.
Thus, he could only offer a slight nod.
“Perhaps so.”
“Enough talk—I’m getting the takeout.”
“Lunch already?”
After Holly’s departure, Bai Yan retrieved his phone and raised an eyebrow at the two prominent words on the screen.
“Mission failed.”
Though Mu Ling had repeatedly claimed mission success, in reality, the alien capture mission had failed.
She had executed him directly!
Could that be considered capture or arrest?
Bai Yan muttered, “Well, I can’t fault her.”
Nevertheless, a failed mission didn’t preclude gains. Mission completion and rewards weren’t entirely correlated.
“Reward acquired, legend points+80”
“‘Shadow Guest’ wreckage successfully collected; available for investment in new special technique resource development.”
“Ah, so it’s a ‘special development’ series material.”
Bai Yan’s eyes narrowed, his lips curved in satisfaction, clearly pleased at accumulating another five hundred points.
The time for summoning had arrived again!
However, Bai Yan had reached a new decision.
He planned to return to the “Ten Summons” family.
Bai Yan intended to invest all five hundred Source Energy Points in the “Destiny” pool this time, then allocate the next five hundred to “Different Dimensions.”
Everything.
“Indeed, drawing five times from each pool does feel somewhat uncertain…”
Bai Yan drew a deep breath and selected the “Destiny” option.
Ten draws!
Summon!
His smile deepened as he murmured, “Not bad at all… a new Operator!”
