Chapter 86: Food
Alan’s Home.
The continuous sound of rushing water echoed from the bathroom where a man with a very athletic build was taking a shower. One could not tell he had such a physique unless he removed his clothes.
At this moment, he felt a headache coming on and sensed that the events of the past few days were too bizarre.
As a Night Watcher of thirteen years, Alan had never encountered so many absurd situations. They were difficult to imagine and impossible to comprehend.
After “joining” Babel Tower, he felt like a layman who had just learned about the existence of the Otherworlds; his values and understanding were repeatedly subverted and shattered.
This feeling made it truly difficult to fall asleep.
Moreover, receiving too many “favors” for no reason was also far from ideal.
If it were someone else, they wouldn’t be as conflicted as Alan, but he possessed a “loyal and devoted” trait, and was even less thick-skinned than Bai Yan.
Since he had recently received too many benefits from Babel Tower, he always felt that they might turn on him in the future, yet he also felt that he had been forced to join the Night Watcher.
Wouldn’t being loyal to Babel Tower constitute a betrayal of the Night Watcher?
Therefore, Alan was currently experiencing extreme frustration!
“Hah.”
Alas, at this point, I can only accept it myself.
What else can be done? Even if I wish to resist, it’s futile.
Alan barely managed to show a relieved smile, though his eyes still reflected uncertainty.
In fact, I am quite capable of enduring, and no matter what strange occurrences Babel Tower presents in the future, I shall never be surprised again!
So, he wrote a small note.
“Don’t become emotional because of Babel Tower anymore.”
[Mysterious Magic.]
[You will embark on a journey to a private banquet.]
[Wishing you a delightful experience.]
Pardon?
Alan paused briefly, immediately realizing that the Savior was speaking again. Would he ever stop?
However, at this point, he had already surrendered and would calmly accept whatever was given to him, regardless of what it might be.
No matter what he might be given, or who might give him the power he needs, he only needed to do what was right… Whether it be Lin Bian or the Savior, he need not be troubled by their “favor.”
But speaking thus, did it not mean that he didn’t need to be good to Bai Yan either…
Although Alan didn’t know what would happen next, he still prepared his bathrobe beforehand, leaving the bathroom to avoid being led somewhere while still naked and vulnerable.
Alan, who remained wet and had not dried himself completely, wore a furrowed brow of concern.
“What exactly will happen?”
In the next moment, the world transformed.
The change was sudden and abrupt. There was no process of everything collapsing and disintegrating. Alan simply watched the landscape around him vanish in an instant, replaced by an entirely unfamiliar environment.
The wind whistled in Alan’s ears, and he could sense the sudden and strong change in air pressure.
Surrounding him was an immensely large circular platform, spanning at least several square kilometers. The ground beneath his feet was entirely composed of white bricks. Looking up, he could see a dazzling and colorful glass dome, shimmering with brilliant and spectacular light.
The overall architectural style of the place resembled a huge steaming pot, and he could deduce from the changes in air pressure that it was suspended in the sky.
Alan had never encountered such a strange place before, but what proved even more bizarre was the “person” before him.
It was a man with an incredibly slender figure, painfully thin to the point of appearing inhuman, dressed in a black tailcoat suit and wearing a pure white mask upon his face.
For reasons unknown, when confronted with this “man,” Alan felt incredibly diminutive, almost to the point where he couldn’t believe they were of equal height.
He could sense the “man’s” presence gradually expanding and swelling until it seemed to encompass the entire sky. That pure white mask would have disappeared from sight if it wasn’t for the fact that it equaled the sky, compelling Alan to look upward.
Besides himself and this mysterious man, there wasn’t another soul on the platform. The sky outside alternated between brightness and darkness, as if daylight and nighttime were rapidly intermingling and shifting.
There were so many peculiar phenomena that Alan was utterly dumbfounded.
The “person” in the black suit extended one hand and introduced himself in a low, magnetic voice.
“I am the God of Appetite, the God of Banquets, and also the God of Gluttony. I am the ultimate foodie and the first chef.”
“You may address me as ‘Food.'”
Alan immediately realized something shocking: wait, was this man claiming to be a god?
Although the aura of this “person” was incredibly terrifying and the strongest being he had ever encountered, a god or something of that nature…
“Yes, I am the ‘God’ you know.”
The other party seemed to perceive his thoughts. “Food” responded directly without opening his mouth, and he might not even possess a mouth, yet the voice continued emanating from within the mask.
“I am merely a weak god. Even a demigod has a chance to defeat me.”
“Just because I lost a game with some fool, I must entertain his guests here and then have a ‘private banquet.'”
He appeared to be “staring” at Alan, and his voice seemed to draw closer, though he hadn’t moved at all.
“Well then? What do you wish to enjoy from me?”
Alan felt slightly disoriented; the volume of information overwhelmed him, making it difficult to process, leaving his mind unable to comprehend it fully.
Hold on, hold on, a God? Did this being just claim to be a God? He can read my thoughts, very well, never mind…
However, how could that be possible?
At this moment, Alan stood in his bathrobe, water dripping from his body, wearing an expression of utter astonishment.
What exactly was the so-called “god”?
They were unattainable, beyond mortal reach, the supreme and magnificent beings!
And now, before him stood a god.
How was this conceivable in any way?
Even with the enigmatic Babel Tower, this sudden revelation remained too incredible to accept!
Alan simply could not fathom it!
“The game of Babel Tower has indeed commenced. Hmm, very interesting ingredients.”
Food nodded slightly and spoke.
“Well, you find the current situation too incredible, and that’s natural. After all, for an ‘ordinary person,’ it’s a reality with a very low probability, Mysterious Magic.”
The mask of the self-proclaimed “Food” revealed a black arc, as if displaying an inscrutable smile.
“However, I am truly a god, and my current appearance is not my true form; it is merely a ‘form’ that permits you to observe me.”
Alan had not uttered a word yet, remaining in a telepathic state.
Nevertheless, he increasingly felt that the other’s identity was becoming more credible.
“Are you truly a god?”
Alan still struggled to believe. After all, gods were supernatural beings beyond human comprehension, and ordinary people could hardly perceive them.
Well, ultimately, many powerful lunatics claimed to be gods, and such occurrences were not uncommon. Those unstable “anchors” of the extraordinary…
Food spoke again:
“Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant. No one, and no universe, concerns itself with your thoughts.”
“I merely fulfill contracts, nothing more.”
After contemplating briefly, he continued:
“The previous guest who came here also visited your world and even left behind a great legacy. Now, you are fortunate enough to be a VIP just like her.”
“Come now, tell me what you desire to eat, Mysterious Magic.”
He slowly opened his hands, and a sonorous voice echoed throughout the space, resonating deeply within the soul.
“All ingredients are at your disposal! Whether it be rage that has shed tears, joy that is unbearable, eyes that have survived through disasters, remnants of the world’s end, a girl transformed by revenge, unforgettable memories, or centuries of stable order… in a multi-dimensional universe full of infinite possibilities, all things can serve as ingredients!”
Alan was thoroughly shocked and couldn’t believe that such things could be considered ingredients. Everything seemed so extravagant and inconceivable.
“Then I, I…”
He remained stunned for a while before finally grasping the situation. Regardless of whether the other party was indeed a so-called “god,” he himself would need to choose a delicacy.
Simply put, this matter differed little from the previous “benefits.” He had to seize the opportunity to have a meal.
But the question remained regarding this god…was he truly divine?
Many of the ingredients sounded questionable.
After careful consideration, Alan finally said, “I wish… to have the same food as the previous guest.”
Food suddenly clapped his hands and declared, “That is a commendable choice. Rather than risking unknown ‘delicacies,’ I would prefer to serve the dishes of our regular patrons.”
His voice gradually increased in volume, constantly amplifying as the entire space twisted and expanded. Alan could only experience the incredible and stunning transformations.
“Then I shall grant your wish, Mysterious Magic.”
The next moment, Food extended his hand.
He “pulled” his hand to his side, as if opening a door.
“Snap.”
Alan witnessed it.
An endless expanse of green forest stretched beneath his feet.
The vibrant energy emanating from it invigorated Alan with every breath, the surrounding air impossibly fresh. Never before had he visited a place with such an exquisite environment.
Above his head spread a clear sky that extended thousands of miles with an enormous scarlet sun, while below lay endless forests, and he stood in the sky alongside the self-proclaimed god “Food.”
After the world’s sudden transformation, Alan was so thoroughly stunned that he remained speechless for a long while, but couldn’t help asking, “Where is this place?”
“It matters not.”
Food replied and slowly raised a finger.
“Well, the ingredients must be harvested fresh, so the delicacy can achieve proper flavor.”
The lush and vast forest began to wither at a visible pace, and massive amounts of green light points soared from the ground toward the sky!
They resembled schools of fish, swiftly darting through the heavens, and the overwhelming green radiance continuously gathered toward the tip of Food’s finger, condensing into the final flicker of light!
A scene like a miracle left Alan speechless.
How could this be possible…
It was truly a divine technique.
He suddenly noticed that the greenery in the forest was rapidly diminishing!
Among the previously uniform greenery, large patches of dismal white appeared!
In mere minutes, all the emerald green had converged onto the tip of Food’s finger, finally transforming into a small, brightly colored green liquid that undulated through the air.
Beneath Alan’s feet, the once endless expanse of green forest had become a boundless, lifeless white wasteland, devoid of vitality and filled only with silence and emptiness.
“Well, let us proceed to collect the next ingredient,” said Food calmly.
