Chapter 81: “Afternoon Lady – Nightsaber” (1)
Mu Ling returned once again to her residence.
The first-floor hall of the family villa remained as solemn, classical, and deserted as ever.
She relaxed with a soft sigh, then lifted her gaze toward the window, where the moonlight cast a pleasant serenity.
“Hoo.”
Has Huo Xin already retired for the night? Though he tends to be more active at night, as is characteristic of his race.
Mu Ling pondered, and sure enough, she soon saw the giant spiral chandelier hanging in the hall illuminate, while Huo Xin strode down from the corner of the upstairs hallway, hands clasped behind his back.
The old man remained as steadfast as ever, silently guarding this aging home.
“Miss, have you undertaken another mission for the ‘Babel Tower’?” His tone carried worry. These past few days, since learning to watch videos, he would always concern himself with Mu Ling during each mission.
“I never expected that you would confront Raven Reaper in such a manner…” Huo Xin recalled the scene where Raven Reaper attacked the lady and found it difficult to continue.
“Mm.”
Mu Ling nodded gently, without concealment, and said, “The mission was completed smoothly. Although I received a few punches, I didn’t sustain serious harm during the process, so you needn’t worry.”
Huo Xin shook his head and said with a bitter smile, “You always think that I worry excessively, but you are the only family I have left, so you must take good care of yourself.”
Mu Ling gave a faint smile, nodded, and earnestly promised, “Don’t worry, Huo Xin.”
“I shall never die.”
“Ah.”
Huo Xin shook his head once more, knowing that any words would be futile.
After comforting the departing old butler, the exhausted young girl went to bathe.
The bath in the Mu family villa is remarkably large, constructed in a classical style reminiscent of ancient Roman baths. She slowly removed each item of her attire until only black silk stockings remained.
The girl lay in the clear pool of water and gently closed her eyes.
“Once again, the task was completed. It had been completed countless times before… Over and over, is there any possibility of restoring even a fraction of the family’s honor?”
Fatigue, profound mental fatigue, seeped deep into the girl’s skin from all directions, making her incredibly weary, to the point where she didn’t wish to lift a finger.
“Mm…”
Mu Ling gave a faint hum, and the physical and mental exhaustion were evident. The daily high-intensity training and life-or-death battles were not easily sustained.
“Regardless of the circumstances…”
I will restore my family’s honor.
In her daze, Mu Ling recalled her parents’ faces, as if they were offering their praise.
That night, she slept soundly.
When Mu Ling awoke again in her sun-drenched bed, she suddenly experienced a peculiar sensation.
It was an extraordinary feeling, indescribable and entirely novel.
The next moment, Mu Ling discovered that a fuzzy layer of mosaic had materialized on her body’s surface! Countless colorful particles wriggled incessantly, as if forming some kind of special substance!
[Nightsaber.]
[This transformation was brought forth by another version of you from a different realm.]
The Savior’s voice resonated in her mind once more, and Mu Ling remained composed, calmly awaiting the outcome.
When the wriggling particles dissipated, Mu Ling discovered her clothes had undergone a complete transformation.
This was casual attire, with a pale apricot-colored long skirt. Though she possessed similar clothes before, she never expected… that the Savior would bestow such an outfit.
Why?
What does this represent?
What is his intention, ultimately?
Soon, the puzzled Mu Ling approached the floor-length mirror in her room and was astonished by what she discovered!
The change wasn’t limited to her clothes but extended to her very form!
Her hair had grown shorter, her skin appeared even fairer and more delicate, and even the expression and temperament in her features differed completely from before.
The chill and gloom that once surrounded her had long dissipated, leaving her as innocent as a youth who had never known battle’s brutality.
“It seems my chest has also grown slightly larger…”
What is happening?
Mu Ling was utterly unable to comprehend why such a metamorphosis had befallen her. While she might have understood the alterations to her attire, the changes to her body remained completely inexplicable.
She gently scratched her head and felt that her reflection appeared… naive?
“What’s occurring? My body feels so strange. What is the Savior thinking, after all?”
She stood before the mirror for quite some time, shook her head in bewilderment, and decided to change clothes as it was time to begin her swordsmanship training.
Even such an occurrence couldn’t deter Mu Ling’s morning swordsmanship practice.
The experiences of childhood and the structured training at Babel Tower had thoroughly instilled in her an enduring habit.
However, as Mu Ling removed the clothing and carefully placed it on the bed, she was stunned by a discovery.
Her current self… strangely couldn’t fit into any other clothes!
Indeed, they wouldn’t fit.
She attempted to don other garments from the wardrobe, but they passed through her body, making them impossible to wear.
“How could this be?”
Either maintain the present state or be compelled to wear the outfit provided by the Savior.
Mu Ling sighed, resigning herself to wearing the leisure attire bestowed by the Savior.
“Even in this peculiar state… I cannot allow my swordsmanship to grow unfamiliar.”
However, upon reaching the courtyard, Mu Ling suddenly found her body had again become uncontrollable.
Does the Savior have a task?
Though difficult to comprehend, she was still efficiently guided to leave home, albeit with mixed feelings.
Today’s events were all too strange!
The girl walked onward, leaving her family’s grounds until she reached a pedestrian street, where a bustling fried chicken shop stood.
Mu Ling entered with caution and took a seat.
Could this place, while appearing to be a fried chicken shop, actually be a cult’s hideout? Why else would the Savior direct her here?
Then her body began ordering automatically, and shortly after, numerous items of fast food arrived.
Mu Ling fell into contemplation.
Could these seemingly ordinary meals actually be cursed abominations fashioned from flesh and blood?
Mu Ling remained vigilant, observing every individual in the fried chicken shop, eager to identify which might be the cultist, the dark wizard, or the extraordinary criminal.
And her body automatically began consuming chicken nuggets, hamburgers, apple pie, ice cream, chicken legs… Mu Ling possessed a considerable appetite and felt no fullness.
The taste was acceptable, but where was the battle?
Next, Mu Ling’s body moved.
She slowly rose and approached the counter. Mu Ling recalled having already paid her phone bill, so what was she doing?
Ah, now I understand!
Mu Ling experienced sudden clarity at that moment!
There, behind that counter, the seemingly ordinary staff member might actually be another senior disciple of the Black Star Faction.
Unfortunately, your disguise proves utterly futile against Babel Tower’s judgment.
Then she delicately took a napkin and wiped her mouth. The staff smilingly asked a little child, “What would you like to order, little one?”
The child looked at the older sister beside him, who was wiping her mouth, with a shocked expression and whispered, “I want to order a large cup of milk tea without the tea.”
The smile on the staff’s face froze. So this is how peculiar children have become these days…
Mu Ling soon realized her mistake.
Ah, I had guessed incorrectly.
