Chapter 8: Magic Lamp
Mu Ling’s hearing and eyesight far surpassed those of ordinary people. She immediately pinpointed that the sounds came from the classroom—specifically, from a seat in the back corner. A blond boy and a dark-haired boy caught her attention. She was certain it was the black-haired young man who had spoken.
He wore a white jacket and shirt, with delicate, almost feminine features. A faint smile touched his lips as he glanced carelessly at Mu Ling.
It was him!
In that instant, Mu Ling confirmed he was undoubtedly the Savior—the man who had forced her to kneel and call him master!
Fear gripped her. ‘He can hear my thoughts. What if he holds a grudge and tortures me more severely?’
She stood there staring at the two men in the back row for a long time.
The other students were momentarily stunned, realizing their goddess was fixated on the two men sitting in the corner.
Was Mu Ling looking at Alan?
Some who knew of Alan’s reputation as a playboy began complaining about Mu Ling’s terrible taste.
As for Bai Yan, most people overlooked him. He had always been invisible at the university. Only occasionally would gossip include him among the “Campus Handsome Faces.”
Mu Ling quickly realized her behavior seemed strange, so she took a seat in the first row.
‘Relax. I must relax.
Why is the Savior here? This can’t be coincidence. Is he secretly observing me?’
The voice was too familiar for Mu Ling to forget. She was baffled. After careful consideration, she still couldn’t understand why the Savior would appear here.
“He’s a powerful figure who could shock the world. I’m just a normal operator in Babel Tower. If he wanted me to do anything, he could simply relay orders in my mind or control my body directly. Why come here in person? Does he want to meet me face to face?”
Throughout the entire class, Mu Ling couldn’t focus on the professors’ lectures. Her thoughts kept returning to Bai Yan.
Bai Yan never suspected that the beauty sitting in the front row was thinking of him.
“She’s pretty, isn’t she?” Alan smiled.
Bai Yan nodded slightly. “Yes. I think we were talking too loudly, and she noticed.”
Alan looked surprised. “She must have exceptional hearing. You’re right—she did look at us just now. I know! She has a crush on me!” He pondered this possibility.
“Heh.” Bai Yan smiled, a hint of contempt flickering in his eyes.
He said nothing more, instead taking out his phone to focus on Babel Tower. Though there were many beautiful girls on campus, they meant nothing to him. He had no interest in befriending them. He preferred the fictional characters, who always followed his commands.
Speaking of which, the beautiful girl named Mu Ling bore a striking resemblance to Nightsaber. Yet Bai Yan remained oblivious to how absurd the truth really was.
The lesson began.
“The Air Alliance, the Euro League, and Night Union are the three major powers in Noah, and Tatsumi is an independent city within the Air Alliance. Tatsumi has a population of thirty million, with most people dependent on agriculture and animal husbandry for their livelihood.”
The elderly professor lectured from the platform, but Mu Ling felt her mind burning. She couldn’t take her attention off the black-haired young man.
Occasionally glancing back, she noticed he wasn’t paying any attention to her, instead focusing on his phone.
What?
Alan muttered, “Hey, she keeps peeking at us. Several times now.”
Bai Yan dismissed his observation. “You’re imagining things. Want to get to know her?”
“No. I’m a realist. She’s not my type.”
Bai Yan fell silent as red text appeared on his phone screen: Emergency!
Emergency missions could appear randomly, without following any specific pattern. Their rewards exceeded those of daily and weekly missions.
Bai Yan aimed for perfect completion this time, requiring more resources, so he wouldn’t skip this mission.
“Sorry, professor. I’ll pay attention next time.”
Since starting university, Bai Yan had barely focused on his studies, instead immersing himself in gaming.
He accepted the mission and selected his sole operator—Nightsaber.
This new mission took place on the city’s central avenue, bustling with people. The objective required preventing any civilian casualties while completing it quickly.
Soon, he entered the battle.
The street split open as a monster emerged—a massive form with black tentacles. Huge mouths ringed its body, oozing green liquid. It stood on hooves like a black goat and snarled.
“Black Offspring”
The pixelated streets filled with terrified civilians running in panic as the Black Offspring grabbed them with tentacles, dragging them toward its gaping maws.
The pixelated Nightsaber appeared.
“Face your sins!”
Nightsaber charged forward, repeatedly striking the Black Offspring. However, each time civilians were injured or killed, Bai Yan had to restart the battle.
Perfect mission completion required mastering dodging and executing rapid combo attacks. He needed to ensure Nightsaber maintained constant pressure while preventing the Black Offspring from harming any passersby.
Bai Yan controlled Nightsaber with growing skill and precision.
He continued playing until class nearly ended. Finally, Nightsaber defeated the Black Offspring without a single civilian casualty.
“Babel Tower Legendary Point +200”
“Black Offspring relic collected. New mutation technology available for investment.”
“Reward: Relic fragment – Magic Lamp x1”
“Save”
Bai Yan relaxed, knowing the Magic Lamp was currently unusable. Once he gathered enough fragments to exchange them, he could make three wishes!
This represented immense power!
The Magic Lamp proved extremely valuable for perfect level completion. Moreover, this powerful relic could only be obtained through fragment exchange—the earlier, the better.
“I did it!”
Bai Yan stretched, suddenly noticing the professor’s stern gaze. He quickly tucked away his phone with an awkward but polite smile.
‘Sorry. I’ll definitely pay attention next class.’
Next time!
Class ended.
Though seated in the front row, Mu Ling hadn’t heard a word of the lecture. Instead, she struggled internally.
“Should I ask him why he’s here? What are his intentions?”
Yet her instinctive reverence made her reluctant to approach him.
The past three days had been torture for her.
Sometimes as she headed to the bathroom, the Savior would seize control of her body, directing her across the city to slay monsters.
When control returned, her body would involuntarily relax… The mere thought made Mu Ling’s face turn ghostly pale.
He is a devil!
Bai Yan remained unaware of Mu Ling’s thoughts. After class, as Alan and the other students left, he stayed seated, contemplating Babel Tower.
A scent of lilac wafted toward him.
Looking up, he saw the white-haired, purple-eyed girl standing before him.
Mu Ling kept her hands at her sides, looking down like a child who had misbehaved.
She hesitated, but finally spoke.
“Master, why did you come here?”
