Chapter 77: Raven Reaper
The family’s internal guards stationed at the study’s entrance were redeployed. Maryse breathed a sigh of relief as she took control of “Phoenix” and monitored the exterior area.
Mu Ling, under manipulation, calmly pushed open the study door and stepped inside.
However, the moment she moved forward, she immediately felt an immense pressure!
What was happening?
Why did it feel as though she had stepped into the underworld the instant she entered? The overwhelming pressure merged the sweat and raindrops on Mu Ling’s body, causing them to continuously stream down!
“The exceptionally spirited Babel Tower’s hunting dog, the lone survivor of the Mu family… I finally see you.”
The bronze crow mask and the meticulously crafted light-colored suit, together with the figure that resembled a hunter among grim reapers, had already been waiting in the study for its prey.
Could it really be him? How was he here!
Even if she joined forces with Psychic Dancer, victory remained uncertain. Had the Savior anticipated this?
Upon seeing the figure, Mu Ling briefly descended into panic, as the disparity in their abilities seemed insurmountable.
Raven Reaper!
This man, who once teamed up with the ace Night Watcher Lin Bian, had brought the “Pastor” to the brink of defeat!
She knew this individual who had fought alongside her father before, hunting the Peaceful Songstress’ Spawns together. Her typically silent father had held him in exceptionally high regard afterward.
“Mu Ling, if you can reach that man’s strength in the future, our family will regain its glory through you.”
Now she faced this very man!
Mu Ling’s thoughts were somewhat chaotic, but she managed to maintain composure.
As long as the Savior existed, no adversary was truly insurmountable.
Moreover, she was different now from who she had been.
Raven Reaper calmly produced a black umbrella and gently placed it on the nearby table, appearing disinclined to use it.
Mu Ling knew that the inconspicuous black umbrella was, in fact, an artificially crafted Relic. Rumors suggested its prototype was actually the remnant of a Civilization-level Relic.
Raven Reaper spoke indifferently, “I met you when you were very young. You were already undergoing the rigorous training of a hunter then, without a normal childhood. The pressure on you must have been immense over these years.”
Mu Ling remained silent; in truth, even if she had wished to speak, words escaped her.
At least, for the moment.
Raven Reaper’s tone remained calm and detached, as if he were someone disinterested in all matters.
“Come, let me ‘taste’ your strength. I can do this without using a weapon.”
Then, raising his hands, he added, “Of course, it’s best not to lower your guard just because I don’t use any weapons.”
“Speaking purely of fighting skill…”
“In this city, none can overcome me.”
Mu Ling felt conflicted, uncertain how the “Savior” would choose—whether to opt for confrontation or negotiation.
Then, she immediately received her answer!
Deep Blue World!
In the realm of extraordinary individuals, holding back proved exceptionally difficult.
No one knew if another was friend or foe, and if they were indeed an enemy, they might possess terrible trump cards.
Carelessness could lead to the fall of even the strongest.
Therefore, going all out from the start was optimal!
Mu Ling sprang toward Raven Reaper instantly, wielding her black cross sword and slashing at his legs!
Targeting the legs? Avoiding fatality?
Mu Ling comprehended the ‘Savior’s’ intention immediately but was stunned the next moment.
Water.
No, not real water… but those legs resembled liquid, easily dispersed by her great sword, yet devoid of blood, flesh, or bones.
The sword could not cut water.
Was this sorcery or ritual? Could it be the legendary Flow of the Heart?
Mu Ling’s body automatically launched several consecutive attacks, but none yielded favorable results.
Raven Reaper had transformed into a dismal white liquid, akin to a stroke of graffiti in an oil painting of reality.
Time resumed its normal course.
“Are you choosing restraint by attacking my legs? Be careful, for next, it will be my turn.”
That miserably white liquid writhed incessantly, rapidly reforming into human shape, while Raven Reaper raised both fists.
He swung one leg behind and stepped forward with the other, completely altering his posture, as whistling wind swept around him!
“Flow of the Heart: Gale”
High speed.
Indeed, it was the Flow of the Heart! Mu Ling had heard of this reformed school of ceremony but had never truly witnessed it.
Raven Reaper seemed to transform into a gust of wind, instantly rushing toward Mu Ling at a speed so swift it left only faint traces of his presence, rather than being merely descriptive.
“Bang!”
Mu Ling was momentarily stunned, immediately feeling sharp pain in her temple, causing her to instinctively shut her eyes in agony.
“Bang!”
The next blow struck the back of her head. Her body lurched forward as she took several steps with closed eyes.
His strength was inferior to hers, but it far exceeded that of ordinary humans, and his speed was truly overwhelming!
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Mu Ling received three more strikes, each landing on her chin, temple, and the back of her head. The intense pain and dizziness caused her to momentarily lose consciousness.
Where was she?
What was she really doing now? Her sight had grown so blurry…
What was she doing here?
Mu Ling fell into a trance.
Her body continued swinging weapons at an extremely rapid pace, unaffected by her dizziness, but the black greatsword failed to strike anything tangible!
The fierce wind danced upon the sword as if it were a partner.
Dodging the blade, Raven Reaper calmly stepped back several meters and resumed his original position.
Mu Ling gradually emerged from her stupor, finding herself on one knee, breathing heavily.
Just then, that man had not only been fast but…
It was pre-reading.
The experts in close combat, according to legend, gained the ability known as “pre-reading,” “insight,” or “foresight” through their extensive experience in countless battles. In essence, they all referred to the same concept.
In martial arts such as karate and kendo, this anticipatory reading ability was termed “Sen no Sen.”
Mu Ling realized that her bodily attempts to attack had already been detected by Raven Reaper, who had discerned the trajectory of her movements.
Raven Reaper’s tone remained flat and detached.
“3.5 seconds of pause and seven seconds of cooldown time… Just as the information revealed in the video. Why do you insist on playing those videos, Babel Tower?”
The temple twice, the occiput twice, the chin once—these five strikes, lethal for an ordinary person, left Mu Ling, this powerful “humanoid monster,” dizzy and disoriented.
Raven Reaper calmly retrieved the black umbrella, resembling a cold-blooded hunter, and gradually strode forward.
He aimed the black umbrella at the girl kneeling on one knee.
“What is your goal?”
“It’s the Black Star Faction,” Mu Ling’s mouth moved involuntarily as she replied, “Reno is number one among the senior believers.”
Silence fell briefly.
Suddenly, Raven Reaper withdrew a black book from his breast pocket and cast it before Mu Ling.
“A few days ago, I received an anonymous report about Reno and chose to attend the banquet… But without you setting the fire outside, I wouldn’t have entered here so easily.”
“I have long known the nature of the Demon Hunt Agency. It isn’t a department that can act without limitation, lacking judicial authority… Even with significant evidence, I fear it would be exceedingly difficult to completely bring down that man.”
“Those disgusting executives knew about White Night Pharmaceutical, yet chose to turn a blind eye.”
Raven Reaper’s gaze remained indifferent, and though his tone was calm, Mu Ling sensed no intention to harm her.
“Perhaps there are more possibilities for you, but this time, I choose to believe in you.”
“Show it to me. You seem to possess unparalleled intelligence, able to uncover evil and corruption piece by piece. So, go and completely destroy the Black Star Faction.”
“And this is the justice that I can achieve.”
After speaking, Raven Reaper’s body dissipated, transforming into numerous white crows that flew out the window.
Mu Ling, now fully recovered, reached for the black book. However, upon merely glancing at it, she immediately experienced an inexplicable sense of detachment.
“The Chaos Book”
“What is this?” She instantly felt a wave of fear, her body instinctively averting its gaze.
Leave the study.
Mu Ling discovered that “Psychic Dancer” and the male elf under her control had vanished, and the guards hadn’t returned.
“Where did that girl go?” Mu Ling wondered.
Her body moved of its own accord, leaving the study and hurrying toward the next battleground.
——
Reno stood calmly in the nearly deserted banquet hall, accompanied by two silent black-clad guards.
These two had always remained by the master’s side and were also extraordinary beings of the awakening level. They had once been tasked with eliminating Maryse should she ever threaten the family.
Suddenly, the banquet hall’s lights extinguished.
Only darkness remained.
“What’s happening?”
“Protect the master well and maintain vigilance.”
Reno lifted his head slightly, scanning the area, but saw no one.
At that precise moment, he sensed impending danger!
“Boom!”
A bullet fired from a distance, instantly flying toward Reno’s abdomen!
The next moment, however, an invisible force completely repelled it, leaving it suspended in midair, shaking violently!
The bullet failed to penetrate the defense and ultimately fell…
However, this was merely a feint!
Suddenly, the loyal bodyguard to Reno’s right developed a vacant expression and swung his arm, which transformed into a sharp blade that viciously attacked his master.
However, the guard’s gaze soon cleared, and his arm’s attacks quickly slowed.
What was he doing?
“Master, beware!”
The guard on the left, witnessing this, shouted loudly. Maintaining his vigilance, he immediately released a violent lightning bolt toward his companion without hesitation!
Reno noticed something amiss and immediately called out in a steady voice, “Wait!”
Electric light arrived, suddenly illuminating the darkened banquet hall!
The traitorous internal guard collapsed, convulsing violently from the fierce electric shock. From his mouth came the words, “It wasn’t me… it was a voice… a girl’s voice… she was commanding me.”
Reno’s pupils contracted slightly as he murmured.
“It’s her, she’s here.”
