Chapter 585: The Game of the Brave
A new game.
It began.
This was the Game of the Brave.
Maryse opened her eyes and found herself sitting in a stark, empty white room. The space felt strangely sterile and silent.
Beside her, Amy’s robotic body sat in a wheelchair, her expression emotionless and mechanical.
“Is it just the two of us?” Maryse asked, glancing around.
After a brief pause to process the situation, she exclaimed, “Oh, I see! Amy, is it just us participating this time?”
Amy nodded slightly, her voice calm but serious.
“I’ve detected… a formidable enemy.”
Hearing this, Maryse’s casual expression turned solemn.
The Game of the Brave.
Winning this game meant Babel Tower would emerge victorious.
But the challenge before them was immense.
The Savior’s warning echoed in her mind:
The opponents had tampered with the rules.
They were about to face god-level entities.
“Oh no… gods?” Maryse whispered in disbelief. “This is insane! How am I supposed to deal with opponents like that?”
Desperately, she prayed that luck would favor her in the game.
The Opponents Arrive
As Maryse and Amy waited, a shimmer of silver light illuminated the room.
Two figures emerged from the glow.
Maryse’s heart froze. Fear gripped her soul as her eyes fell upon the first figure.
The being towered over them, standing over five meters tall. Its grotesque form was covered in rough skin resembling that of a walrus. Six muscular arms protruded from its body, and eight blinking eyes dotted its massive face.
Amy recognized it immediately, her vast database providing the answer.
“It’s Pride,” she said coldly.
Pride, the first member of the Tower to reach Noah. Though defeated by Bai Yan in a duel, it was far from weak.
Pride was one of the strongest Apocalypse beings, a core member of the Tower, and a loyal ally to Solitary.
The second figure stepped forward, and the atmosphere grew even heavier.
It was Solitary himself.
Amy’s voice turned icy, her mechanical tone devoid of warmth.
“So, Solitary, you’ve decided to enter the field personally. According to the rules, participants in this two-player game can join the final battle.”
Her eyes narrowed as she continued,
“You are undoubtedly the greatest threat to Babel Tower. Against you, our chances of winning are… only 13%.”
Solitary’s calm gaze rested on Amy. He didn’t speak, but his mere presence sent a chill through the room.
Even Maryse felt the weight of his soul, something dark and dreadful lurking within.
“This is bad,” she muttered. “This is so, so bad…”
Determined Resolve
Maryse glanced at Amy.
“Why would the Savior choose us for this fight? Did they really think we stood a chance?”
Amy remained calm.
“It’s simple. I’m strong, composed, and skilled at playing games. I’m the perfect choice.”
Maryse blinked, then scoffed.
“Really, Amy? No humility at all?”
Amy didn’t respond.
Meanwhile, Pride’s many eyes scanned the two of them, but in its gaze, they didn’t exist.
“Heh…” Pride chuckled, its voice a deep, rumbling sound.
Memories of its past filled its mind. It could still recall being defeated by a young human boy—a defeat that left a scar on its pride.
“I’ve just come back to life, and already I’m playing another game…” Pride mused aloud. “But if I ever meet that human again, I’ll take my revenge.”
Solitary broke his silence, speaking in a calm, commanding tone.
“You’ll have another chance.”
The Game Begins
Maryse, feeling ignored, clenched her fists and shouted,
“Hey! Don’t underestimate us! We’re still here! If we win, that means you lose, right?”
She glared at her two opponents, trying to muster courage.
“At least there’s a ‘no attacking’ rule in this game. That means we still have a chance!”
Without that rule, Solitary’s overwhelming power could end the game in an instant.
Pride laughed.
“Rules or not, the winner will be us. If we can’t triumph in this ‘Death Game,’ we don’t deserve to call ourselves members of the Tower.”
The Board Appears
A massive square table materialized in front of the four players.
The table resembled a Monopoly board, filled with various event squares. At the far-right corner stood the finish line.
In the center, four game pieces appeared, each resembling their respective players.
From above, a dice the size of a human head rolled to the ground with a heavy thud.
“Knock, knock, knock…”
It came to a stop in front of Pride.
Pride’s Turn
“It seems I’m first,” Pride declared, its walrus-like arm reaching for the dice.
The being threw it with confidence, but as the dice rolled, it realized something.
“Cheating won’t work,” Pride said, glancing at Solitary, who nodded.
The dice, imbued with divine power, was immune to manipulation—even Solitary couldn’t control its outcome.
The dice landed on 4.
Pride’s game piece moved forward four spaces, landing on a Karmic Grid.
The piece gained 15 Karma Points.
The Rules of Karma
In the Game of the Brave, Karma played a crucial role.
Higher Karma allowed players to overpower opponents in battle, seizing their resources. But Karma had risks.
Certain squares triggered dangers for players with high Karma. And reaching 100 Karma invoked Divine Punishment, resetting the piece to the start.
Maryse’s Turn
The dice rolled to Maryse’s side.
She looked at the map, noting 100 squares to the finish line. Even rolling perfect sixes, the journey would take more than ten rounds. Along the way, countless events—both good and bad—awaited.
She took a deep breath.
“Okay, just get to the finish line, right?”
Without hesitation, she threw the dice.
It landed with a heavy thud.
One point.
