Chapter 560: The Gentle Savior
The Enos civilization.
This civilization had existed for countless years, and the difference in the flow of time between it and the Noah World was immense.
In the past, when six months had passed in Noah, Enos had already experienced thousands of years. Now, Noah had crossed over a decade. Time, as always, flowed like a river.
Over tens of thousands of years, the Enos civilization evolved, advancing into something far beyond its original form. Eventually, they abandoned their primitive planet, embarking on an exploration of the vast universe.
At present, the planet was teeming with life, a natural paradise for countless creatures and plants.
Nature’s cycle continued.
Life thrived and flourished.
Merete Chambers seemed to be standing still in the sky, yet she was moving at an incredible speed, the continents beneath her rapidly passing by.
“I once saw an elderly panda fishing in Belan World. It possessed formidable strength, earning the title of a demigod, also known as the Apocalypse level,” she reminisced casually, as if speaking to a friend. “That old panda had lived for over three thousand years. We connected instantly, and he willingly shared with me… that he was destined to be the chosen one, born to save the World.”
She smiled as she recalled the memory, her voice light.
“I didn’t believe him, but he claimed to be skilled in so many things—mixing drinks, fortune-telling, tea art, fishing, martial arts, swimming—and even had a vision at birth foretelling his destiny to save the World. But after waiting for over three thousand years, he still hadn’t received his chance.”
Merete Chambers paused, her expression thoughtful.
“This panda wanted to become a hero, to save the World and be admired by many. He trained hard and fought evil, hoping for the day when his destiny would unfold. Time and time again, he saved villages and towns. But in the end, although he didn’t save the World, he had become a legend in people’s hearts, praised by countless souls.”
She continued with a soft chuckle.
“In the end, he told me that the World was not facing a crisis, which was actually a good thing. He had finally let go.”
Merete Chambers stopped, her gaze distant.
“Perhaps, he simply had the potential to save the World.”
Bai Yan remained silent, listening quietly to the story.
So, that’s how it was.
Panda Rowen, with a great chance to reach Babel Tower but never making it, had lived in Belan World.
So much in life seemed bound by fate.
Bai Yan recalled the names he had seen after the Second Doomsday Crisis—thousands of them, and the number continued to grow. In theory, all these people had the potential to save the World!
In the land of Annottales, there had been a Silver Knight, a reckless woman who had the potential to become a member of Babel Tower and had the chance to save the World. Yet, she never arrived.
There had also been a fox in the Air Alliance, pampered by “humans” like a small guardian of animals. Even though the character, used multiple times in the first playthrough, wasn’t drawn again in the second, there was no need to draw her again.
“Phew, why aren’t you saying anything?” Merete Chambers asked, smiling after her long story.
[There wasn’t much to say.]
Merete Chambers wiggled her finger playfully in midair, her mischievous grin obvious.
“My most respected master, the great Savior, I actually have many, many questions I’ve been dying to ask you.”
“May I ask?” Bai Yan replied calmly.
[Feel free to ask. No need for cryptic remarks.]
Merete Chambers began her questioning.
“How did you come across the Babel Tower?”
[“What can’t be said,” came the mysterious reply.]
“Hmm, how would you normally use the Babel Tower?” she pressed.
[“Can’t say,” the answer came with a sly smile.]
“Okay, I won’t ask about that for now… Can you use the powers of all the members of Babel Tower?”
[“Indeed, I can,” Bai Yan replied with confidence.]
Merete Chambers responded with exaggerated awe, clapping her hands.
“Wow, wow, wow! Well, that is truly amazing! So incredibly powerful!”
[“Is there anything else you want to ask? As I said, no need for cryptic remarks.”]
She paused for a moment, then said, “I shouldn’t be cryptic… I can’t just mock you directly, right?”
[It’s up to you.]
“Do you stay behind the scenes every day, silently watching us? Is it interesting to observe people’s hearts, secretly monitoring everyone?”
Merete Chambers squinted at him, a playful glint in her eyes.
“If it were me, I’d find it fascinating.”
But Bai Yan’s response caught her completely by surprise.
[It is truly fascinating, manipulating so many different characters, as if they were pieces in a game.]
[But besides finding it interesting… I also began to experience an emotion I never felt before.]
[A sense of responsibility.]
[At first, I was carefree, treating everything like a game. It didn’t matter if people died or if the World was doomed.]
[Yes, that’s how I thought at the start.]
[But as I watched daily life unfold and undertook different tasks, I gradually changed…]
[They may have been influenced by me, or maybe they always believed, slowly learning to trust the Babel Tower and the Savior… willing to sacrifice everything for the goal of saving the World through Babel Tower.]
[If, at this point, I still treated everything like a game, would I be deceiving those who believed in this cause?]
[I don’t want to deceive, nor disappoint those who trust me.]
Merete Chambers was silent for a long while before answering softly.
“So that’s how it is… You really are a gentle hero, aren’t you?”
“Gentle?” Bai Yan asked, his voice tender.
It was hard to say, truly.
Bai Yan reflected. In the game “Babel Tower,” many of the chosen members endured the Training Simulation. They cried and begged for mercy, dying repeatedly, unable to escape because they couldn’t pass the level.
Even the resilient Mu Ling had felt overwhelmed by the pain she inflicted on herself, through self-criticism, at the beginning.
The witch, however, had been the last to join Babel Tower. She didn’t suffer much during the Training Simulation. In fact, with her personality, even if she died inside, she didn’t care at all.
For her, the weak were meant to be dominated by the strong.
So, she didn’t think there was anything wrong with that.
She had never resented Babel Tower or the Savior.
“We have arrived,” Merete Chambers said as they approached the enchanted island.
This island was slowly advancing, with a grand altar in the depths, created by the mad Queen Enos, who had sought ascension to godhood.
But now, both the Philosopher’s Stone and the altar for ascension belonged to Bai Yan.
Perhaps, in a way, what she had said before was right.
Bai Yan was trying to take everything from her.
But in reality, he hadn’t killed her for these benefits. No, it was because she had destroyed the souls of countless innocent people.
Had she been innocent back then, even with Babel Tower’s task and all the benefits, Bai Yan would never have laid a finger on her.
He would not have become a slave to Babel Tower or its game.
Today, driven by his mission, he had killed the innocent. Tomorrow, he would kill his loved ones.
Looking around, everything appeared much the same as before. Yet, everything had grown old, worn down, and overrun with weeds. It was clear that many years had passed since anyone had come here.
Upon the pristine altar lay a giant, crimson heart—symbolizing the unfinished Ultimate Ritual.
Merete Chambers spoke calmly, “I’ve qualified to become a god. Over the course of three thousand years, Belan World has completely evolved and progressed under my control.”
This was the true purpose for which she had lingered in Belan World for three thousand years.
For this moment.
[Let’s begin then.]
The ultimate ritual had once been incomplete.
But later, Bai Yan had discovered, through projections, how to complete it.
It meant injecting another force into the giant heart to stabilize the power of miracles.
The Power of Origins.
Merete Chambers asked, “Can you still use the power of the Babel Tower?”
[Yes, just like how I can still control you, I can still do it, though very weakly…]
Bai Yan, with his incomplete soul, once again performed Power Possession.
Though the power released was weak, fortunately, there was no need to worry about its amount. As long as it flowed constantly, the ritual would be replenished.
The Power of Origin.
He already possessed it.
Infinity.
