Chapter 517: The Deep Crimson Wish
The elder in the purple robe stood calmly not far from Bai Yan. Yet, the mysterious aura radiating from him was impossible to ignore. It felt as though he were a collection of vibrant melodies, more so than a living being.
Bai Yan suddenly realized what this sensation was. When The Cursed String Music, played by Amicio, unleashed its overwhelming sorcery, he too would experience a similar sensation to a multitude of spells. But now, he sensed an even stronger, deeper aura emanating from the Anomalous Star.
That form was no longer simply flesh and blood. It had become the very incarnation of sorcery.
The Anomalous Star remained eerily calm as it spoke slowly,
“Scarlet, why must you go to such lengths? The Babel Tower did not offend you, yet you seek to destroy it.”
The crimson mist swirling around the Crimson Sovereign continued to devour the dimension, and she responded in kind.
Her voice was ethereal, with echoes that seemed impossible for a human to produce.
“They… will eventually hinder my plan. It’s better to act first.”
Anomalous Star gazed at her and continued,
“So, this is the reason? It truly is for that pitiful wish.”
“I have learned of your plan, Chairman Rock Morgan of the Ring City. I am fully aware of your intentions… This dreadful plan will not only be stopped by Babel Tower, but I will ensure you do not succeed.”
Crimson remained silent for a moment, then said,
“You are the only god in ‘Rainbow’ who still cares for the people of Noah.”
Indeed, the Heart of Radiance had fallen. Crimson, Dark Light, and Steel Alchemist had all turned against them. Fate’s Strings Master cared not, leaving only Anomalous Star struggling alone.
The people of Noah had always worshipped the “Rainbow.” But the lofty “Rainbow” had no obligation to answer to them.
Gods were never meant to be caretakers for humans. They were powerful, fearsome beings, capable of altering the fate of all life in an instant.
The Anomalous Star laughed, offering a response:
“I may have been an Anomalous Star for thousands of years, but I have also been a Noah for thousands of years… I am not as heartless as you all think. I still have attachments to this world. I have countless descendants, each studying the spells I created.”
“And, the concept of magic has already become a part of me. Magic is a unique power system that only Noah possesses. If Noah were to disappear, I too would find myself in a dire situation.”
Bai Yan suddenly realized. He had always thought of himself as just one of the “Anomalous Star’s” primitive gods, but in truth, his essence was much closer to that of a conceptual deity.
Only, the concept was “magic.” And yet, the concept of magic had not spread across the multiverse. Its foundation was almost entirely within Noah.
Thus, the Anomalous Star had no choice but to make a desperate gamble—saving the world rather than fleeing like Fate’s Strings Master.
In the exchange between gods, Bai Yan remained silent, slowly restoring his energy while watching the scene unfold.
“Mr. Xia” had completely lost his fighting ability. His two fused souls had been damaged, forcing him into a deep slumber. Even if he were to awaken, it would not be any time soon.
Before him stood a mighty deity, ready to fight with all its might.
So, Mr. Xia’s issue hardly seemed like a problem anymore.
Bai Yan could feel the vast difference between himself and the Connector, who had once killed a mighty deity. But with Anomalous Star by his side, he realized that, without her help, he might have been swiftly taken down by a surprise attack.
However, with thorough preparation and the support of Babel Tower, the current Bai Yan had the strength to go against the gods.
The possibility of losing was high, but the very concept of having a chance to win was enough.
Bai Yan spoke up,
“Even if you were to kill me, you cannot stop the Savior of Babel Tower… I am but an ordinary member among the many in Babel Tower.”
Crimson Sovereign fell silent for a moment, seemingly understanding his words, and shook her head.
“You are the leader of Babel Tower’s members, I can sense it. In this war, you are the focal point. Once I make sure you no longer exist, Babel Tower will suffer a great blow.”
Bai Yan fell into deep thought, still unaware that he himself was the Savior of Babel Tower. Yet, he could feel that he was very important. Was this the power and authority brought by the “war”?
“What do you truly want?”
Bai Yan gazed at the deep red, his voice low,
“From the information we have, you’ve been controlling Rock Morgan in Ring City for years, conducting massive human experiments, trying to study some form of technology.”
“This past year, you’ve hurt many. Numerous lives have been ruined by your experiments… Crimson Sovereign, I will not forgive you. None of Babel Tower, nor the great Savior himself, will forgive you.”
“Just as you imagined… Babel Tower is destined to be your enemy.”
With the other party already set on fighting Babel Tower, Bai Yan didn’t need to worry. He could confront them directly, tearing off the veil without hesitation.
In the upcoming battle, their side held the advantage. The Anomalous Star’s power was slightly stronger than Crimson Sovereign’s, and with Bai Yan’s full support, victory seemed within reach.
Bai Yan pondered carefully, feeling confident in his potential victory.
“If that’s the case, then come on.”
Crimson Sovereign fell silent once again before speaking words that left Bai Yan utterly astounded.
“My wish is very simple… it is to completely fade away and erase myself…”
What?
Bai Yan was taken aback. An unexpected revelation that completely shocked him. One of the majestic Rainbow Sovereigns, the legendary deity of War, Crimson Sovereign, revealed her goal was self-destruction—eliminating her own existence.
Bai Yan was perplexed, struggling to comprehend the situation.
“You don’t understand. I don’t want to be a part of ‘war.’ If there were other options, I would not want to be involved.”
Crimson Sovereign continued,
“Among countless worlds, over countless years, within the crimson whirlpool born from the negative emotions of countless wars, I came into being.”
“The essence of war is violence and suffering. From the moment I was born, I’ve lived in anguish. Countless negative emotions—anger, wailing, despair, curses—have always accompanied me.”
She looked at the crimson mist surrounding her. It was a powerful force, but it also brought constant pain to her.
“Rather than continue to exist, it is better to disappear.”
Bai Yan began to understand. Gods seeking self-destruction were no simple matter, especially conceptual gods.
To cease existing, a concept itself had to vanish.
For example, “Food.” If one wished to kill Him, the concept of “eating” itself would have to disappear from the multiverse.
When a conceptual god ascended, they merged with their concept in the multiverse. Crimson Sovereign was the deity of war. There were, undoubtedly, other gods embodying the same concept.
If she wished to end her existence, the only way was to make the concept of war cease to exist in the multiverse.
Of course, if she succeeded, all other gods symbolizing war would vanish as well.
The Crimson Sovereign’s ethereal voice echoed once more,
“To make ‘war’ disappear, there is only one way… I am trying to develop a ‘soul virus’ that will make creatures lose their ability to think aggressively. With this, they will no longer be able to engage in war.”
Bai Yan understood. So, the experiment Rock Morgan had conducted on Amy was, in fact, the soul virus.
From Amy’s recollections, those experiments caused physical mutations—likely a reflection of corresponding transformations in the soul.
He replied,
“You’re speaking of a dream. The multiverse is vast. How could you possibly eliminate aggression in everyone? Even if you altered the thoughts of mortals, deities would still clash…”
Crimson Sovereign was silent for a long moment before speaking.
“Babel Tower sought to save the doomed world, but was that merely a foolish dream? Was the Heart of Radiance also sacrificed for an impossible cause?”
Bai Yan fell silent. He now understood why the Anomalous Star called her mad.
Perhaps, for the Fate’s Strings Master, always ready to flee, the Anomalous Star’s actions seemed crazy.
But as a mighty deity, the willingness to stay behind and perish alongside Noah was remarkable.
Even gods, powerful as they were, still retained human emotions. The more powerful they became, the further they distanced themselves from humanity. To ordinary mortals, such acts seemed mad, extreme, and incomprehensible.
There was nothing more to say now. Everyone had firmly entrenched their positions, unwilling to give in.
“Ah, if I had a choice, I wouldn’t want to be enemies with any of the Rainbows.”
Anomalous Star sighed.
Anyone could see how lonely and exhausted He had become.
Even the mighty gods still carried the emotions they once had as humans before their ascension.
“But at this point, I can no longer retreat.”
Just as the battle was about to begin, the sky was suddenly enveloped in dense crimson mist, obscuring the face of the Scarlet Sovereign, the red-clad young girl Bai Yan could no longer see.
“It is not yet time… Only me… No certainty of victory…”
“We must wait for them…”
“Almost there… very soon…”
Bai Yan frowned. He realized the other party was preparing to escape.
He couldn’t stop them, nor could he leave behind “Mr. Xia,” who had lost his fighting ability.
Anomalous Star had no intention of stopping the Crimson Sovereign. To Him, it was better not to act unless necessary.
Every time He acted, he suffered the backlash of Noah’s world consciousness.
If this battle broke out, even if Anomalous Star won, there was a high probability He would perish.
Anomalous Star was willing to aid Babel Tower, but He didn’t want to die. It was best to avoid fighting altogether.
As the red mist dispersed, not only Crimson Sovereign and Mr. Xia, but even Anomalous Star had vanished without a trace.
Bai Yan breathed a sigh of relief, though he felt an empty sense of disappointment.
He had expected an earth-shattering battle, but it abruptly ended. Yet, for some reason, the unease lingered.
“She said she needed to wait for them. Could they be referring to… those two?”
He had no idea.
The weight of the atmosphere grew heavier. It was as though someone had manipulated his emotions, leaving him unable to make sense of what had just transpired.
To confront a god, he had to risk it all. But the result was still left uncertain.
Would there be another opportunity to make things right?
