Chapter 508: The Nightmare
Amy felt as though she was trapped in a nightmare.
In an instant, the various sections of the Giant Hive became a chaotic jigsaw, scattered across dimensions.
She found herself in a dimension unlike any other—one where the ground didn’t even exist.
The buildings were crumbling, floating aimlessly in the air.
Amy barely comprehended what was happening when her wheelchair suddenly switched to flight mode, lifting her into the sky.
In the blink of an eye, Amy realized… she was trapped in a nightmare.
Someone fell from the sky.
Instinctively, she reached out with her abilities, using her control over nearby electronics to save them.
One person. Two. Three.
Ten. A hundred.
Countless people fell from the sky, wailing in despair as they plummeted.
“Ah!”
Amy stood frozen, helpless, watching the horror unfold before her eyes.
Thousands of people crashed onto the shattered buildings below, their bodies a grotesque mess of flesh and debris.
It felt as though a blood-red rain, named Death, had descended upon them.
Why did it have to be this way?
Amy could feel the pain of others, her heart aching in sorrow and disbelief. In that moment, she even considered erasing the memory from her mind altogether.
But she endured. She had to see this through.
The screams, the wails, and the despair of those teetering on the edge of death flooded her senses.
This was the war of the demigods.
Apocalypses were superweapons walking among humans. With one random clash, one sudden attack, one burst of fury, they could easily cause the deaths of thousands.
But such a reality was rare, and Amy wasn’t prepared to face it yet.
“Calm down,” she whispered to herself.
She knew that she had to accept the facts and use them as a wake-up call.
“It’s just death. The soul remains, and they will simply be reincarnated.”
Amy took a deep breath.
She understood—neither Babel Tower nor herself could save everyone.
But still, the weight of the reality settled heavily on her heart.
Slowly, the sound of screams began to fade into the background.
Using her strength, Amy managed to save thousands of people, successfully guiding them to a safe building.
They were still in a state of panic, unable to fully process what had happened.
But when some of them finally regained their composure, amidst their tears and astonishment, they expressed their gratitude to Amy.
“Sorry,” Amy whispered, her heart heavy with guilt.
She had saved some, but not all.
Soon, the voice of the Savior filled her mind, informing her of her next steps.
Amy was instructed to stay and help care for the ordinary people temporarily.
Without hesitation, she followed the orders.
As she did, she also began reaching out to the Omnic in the dimension.
These Omnic wouldn’t die from falling, and Amy learned that several hundred of them had also arrived. She quickly gave the order to gather them.
Moments later, the Omnic, led by the grim-faced “Fist of Duel,” arrived.
Ganis was deeply troubled.
Suddenly, all of his companions had vanished, and he found himself in an unfamiliar place. He tumbled from the sky, though, thankfully, he wasn’t hurt.
But he had no idea if his fellow tribesmen had survived.
Without the Savior’s timely voice, Ganis might have felt completely lost.
When he saw Amy and the others, he nodded at her, his voice soft but trying to be reassuring.
“Don’t be discouraged. Things aren’t beyond redemption. Even if there are casualties, the Savior will guide us to the end.”
His words were meant to lift his own spirits.
As he made his way to Amy, he couldn’t help but glance at the gruesome scene around him—blood and flesh scattered on the broken buildings.
The thought of his sister, perhaps among them, made his stomach churn.
But he steeled himself, pushing through the horror.
After a while, Old Mike was brought to the scene, his emotions unstable.
“What’s going on? Why is this happening? What about my granddaughter? Where is she? Where is the Savior? Why hasn’t anyone shown up?”
Old Mike’s anger flared as his arms morphed into firearms.
Had Amy not been there to distract him, he might have fired indiscriminately in his rage.
Both Amy and Ganis stood in silence. They both knew that Old Mike’s entire world revolved around his granddaughter.
She was everything to him.
In truth, they too were worried about their own loved ones.
Amy gazed up at the sky, confused and overwhelmed. She couldn’t do anything here, not even see her enemies.
The situation was beyond their control. No matter how angry Old Mike became, nothing would change.
“Will everything ever return to normal?”
Just then, Amy’s brow furrowed.
She received a warning through her Omnic: immense energy sources were rapidly approaching.
One. Two. Three.
Amy’s heart sank as she recognized the approaching figures.
They were powerful Apocalypse warriors.
Maryse’s heart pounded with fear.
She was being forced to follow Mr. Xia, his expression calm and detached as he moved swiftly through the air, as though some invisible force was carrying her along.
“How much do you know about the Savior of Babel Tower?” he suddenly asked, breaking the silence.
Maryse hesitated, unsure of how to respond.
“I… I…”
She struggled with the decision, wondering if she should say something to protect herself.
But before she could say more, Mr. Xia didn’t even look at her as he spoke, “You can choose not to speak, but I can shatter your soul and dissect your memories, piece by piece.”
Maryse smirked, almost laughing at the absurdity.
“Fine, I’ll talk, I’ll talk! The big boss of Babel Tower is the Savior, a mysterious figure in a black robe. He claims that we all have the potential to save the world, and that his goal is to save the world. But how could that be true? I bet he’s a fool… Mr. World, I’ve always admired you. I even bought posters, merchandise, and songs about you. I filled a whole room with them. Everything I say is true…”
Maryse continued talking, trying to convince him.
But when she got no response from Mr. Xia, she grew bolder.
“Just don’t kill me, Mr. World. I’m just a little girl. My fighting abilities won’t affect the battle. So, why not just let me go?”
Mr. Xia shook his head.
“I won’t let you go. Profligate seems to care about you. I want to see something interesting.”
Maryse was taken aback, her expression flickering with confusion.
“Oh, does he really care about me? How can you tell? It’s so obvious! Haha!”
Mr. Xia didn’t respond, only continuing with his cold, unsettling tone.
“Profligate is the strongest of you all. The Savior of Babel Tower clearly cannot directly interfere with the World. Once I remove this toughest obstacle, the outcome will be sealed.”
Maryse’s heart tightened.
Mr. Xia’s voice was calm but carried a sinister edge. “In the end, I’ll crush your souls, so the Savior won’t be able to resurrect you.”
His words sent a chill down Maryse’s spine.
This man was serious. He intended to destroy Babel Tower completely.
“Don’t touch him, and don’t touch anyone from Babel Tower,” Maryse said, her voice fierce.
Suddenly, Mr. Xia stopped, turning to face her.
Maryse froze in place, her heart racing.
His eyes, empty and lifeless, stared through her.
“You’re very angry,” he said. “But as ordinary beings, you cannot easily control negative emotions. That’s a skill only demons possess.”
“No! Don’t underestimate me! Anger gives me power!”
Mr. Xia’s gaze shifted. He noticed a slight turbulence in the power surrounding Maryse.
“It’s not possible,” he muttered.
The half-elf girl before him was indeed stronger than the average lower-ranked Apocalypse. Perhaps she could even stand against a middle-ranked Apocalypse.
But the gap between them was undeniable. How could she possibly break free from his control?
Mr. Xia’s brow furrowed.
“Don’t try to trap me anymore!”
Maryse’s voice exploded with fury.
Her heart knew that pleading was useless. The man before her was just like her father.
This person craved power, seeing others as mere pawns. He believed he alone could control everything, and that the bigger picture justified any means necessary.
But Maryse wasn’t going down without a fight.
“I will kill you here!” she shouted.
